Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Triassic Toys

I've always been particularly interested in the Triassic world. Not only because it gave rise to the dinosaurs but because of all the unique creatures they shared the earth with. I feel like Triassic fauna is underrated and under represented where collectables are concerned. In an attempt to seek out more "Triassic Toys" I'm starting a thread and encouraging members to discuss the unique animals from this time period and the collectables that are out there that represent them.

So here is my small collection of Triassic fauna to get the ball rolling. I know some of you out there will have models I've never heard of and I can't wait to see them!

Jetoar

[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

I love the Triassic fauna :). There's even a museum series from Japan called Dawn of the Dinosaurs ;).
If I find the time I should post pictures of them.

Yes you should, I've never even heard of it!

Gwangi, a rich reference for examples of Triassic figures is on the Dinosaur Collector Site A:

Are you talking about the Bullyland period?
Yes, I love the Triassic too.
And the Collecta Plateosaurus is one of my favorites, is a very good figure, I used it my Diorama entry for the contest 2 years ago.

Sadly there aren't many triassic toys to my knowledgement.

Do not forget the Placerias (ex chinasaur) toy

The Bullyland Mastodonsaurus

The Bullyland Arizonasaurus (I actually don't have it)

Thanks Stemturtle, I've been to that site before but not in a very long time. A good refresher.

Ahhh, the Bullyland Arizonasaurus. I love it but still don't own it. Soon I think...soon. I think that is one reason why Bullyland is one of my favorite companies. They may not corner the market on accuracy or quality but they tackle obscure species and they're always unique and have a certain level of charm as well.

There are actually a lot of them if you keep an eye out. Just from my collection:

There are two Chasmatosaurus (Safari crocs toob & the 'thecodont' from Dino Magic); a whole bunch of Coelophysis; various Cynognathus (most of which are poor quality but the small metal QRF figure is okay); Deltasaurus (Yowies); a whole lot of Desmatosuchus (Iwako & knock offs; Schleich; Tedco; Safari crocs toob); Dicynodon (Tedco; Yowies); Dubbolimulus (Yoiwes); Euparkeria (Starlux; Safari Crocs toob); Exaeretodon (Dawn of Dinosaurs); Fasolasuchus (skeleton, DotD); Frenguellisaurus (DotD); Gerrothorax (PV); Henodus (PV, Safari Reptiles toob); Herrerasaurus (CollectA); Hyperodaeopodon (Shapeways; Chinasaur mini); Hybodus (Neko Works; Safari Sharks toob); Ischigualastia (DotD); Kannemeyeria (Primaeval Designs); Kuehneosaurus (Iwako); 'Labyrinthodonts' (Starlux; Deiner)' Lessemsaurus (skeleton; DotD); Liliensternus (Bullyland, CollectA); Longisquama (Dino Magic); Lustrosaurus (Dinotales 3); Mastodonsaurus (Starlux; Bullyland); Metoposaurus (Shapeways); Michelinoceras (Dinosaur Train); Mixosaurus (PV); Nothosaurus (PV; Starlux; Chinasaur; Safari reptiles toob); Odontochelys (Shapeways); Ornithosuchus (JP; Starlux); Paratypothorax (Bullyland); Peteinosaurus (Dinosaur Train); Phytosaur (QRF); Pistosaurus (Feves); Placerias (DinoRiders; QRF; Chinasaur); Placochelys (=Placodus?, Starlux); Placodus (PV); Plateosaurus (Mech; Dinotales 5; Yowies; CollectA; Schleich; Carnegie); Postosuchus (Safari; Safari Crocs toob; WwD: Predators; Dino Magic; Lontic); Proganochelys (Dinosaur Train); Promastodonsaurus (DotD); Protochirotherium (Bullyland); Protosuchus (Starlux; Animal Planet Micro); Rutiodon (Dinotales 3; Safari Crocs toob); Sacisaurus (Ademar); Saltoposuchus (Starlux); Saurosuchus (DotD; Primaeval Designs); Scaphonyx (DotD); Shonisaurus (Schleich; PV); Stagonolepis (QRF); Tanystropheus (Starlux; Carnegie; Dinotales 2); Tasmaniosaurus (Yoiwes); Teratosaurus (Panosh); Triadobatrachus (PV); Trochosaurus (Dinotales 3); various Tuataras; Vancleavea (Shapeways); Xenacanthus (Dinotales 4; Safari Sharks toob)

Again, this is just what I have--I am sure there are several more, especially with Shapeways. And this also isn't counting various arthropods and plants that would probably be appropriate as well (I did get Tuatara up there--must be something in the Database query).

I already knew there were a lot more than the few I own, although I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the hobby as many of the more serious collectors here. Still, that is a great list to use as a reference. If only more of them were easily accessible!

The Iwako:

The small sort of copy:

The main difference is that Iwako are erasers; the others are just rubber.

That knock off was part of a line of Tiny dinosaurs that came in little plastic Eggs that were used as prizes at arcades and Carnivals. I used to get these when i was a little child because my scool had a yearly carnival indoors, and they were second place prizes in a ball tossing game (I intentionally made sure i got only second place every time i played)

Arul

I dont have any triassic figure because im not really know about the triassic hahaha, anyway nice collection guys  :)

That's how I got mine, off of ebay--I intentionally requested extra Desmatosuchus when I bought them!

Great idea for a thread Gwangi!  I find the Triassic world very interesting and unique, with lots of cool species!  Your nice Triassic figures photo got me to look up Ichthyosaurus and discover it was in the Triassic, as well as the Jurassic (up till now I only knew it lived in the Jurassic)!  I really like it when I learn new things like this through this forum.

For those looking for the Iwako Desmatosuchus (and a bunch of others, I suppose): http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m128794482

In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Thanks! Yes, I had to double check on Ichthyosaurus myself because I was fairly confident it was around in the Triassic but you always think of them as Jurassic animals. Turns out they lived during both!

There is a Dawn of the Dinosaurs resin set from Japan sold in capsules from a machine.  I would guess at the Museum you mentioned.  There are a few Podokosaurs and coelophysis like toys out there.  The best are the UHA figures but there are several bin figures that you can paint up.  The JP figures are among my favorites from Hasbro but there do not wear well.  I would like to see some sauropodamorphs from the Triassic other than Plateosaurus.  My other wish would be I would like to have the figures in similar scale.  You really have to mix and match to get a diorama to scale.  Stem turtle had a great Triassic diorama a couple of years ago for the Forum contest.  Basically it had all the common figures you can get at a reasonable cost.
You can never have too many dinosaurs
