Haha! I know!! Right! But I still stand by my point that those age groups also buy figures by Safari, Papo, Schleich and the rest. I just always wondered why Spielberg, or whoever would make the final decision, didn't also include a realistic toy figure line too. I bet kids would've also snagged them up as quickly as they were made, because they would've replicated more realistically the creatures from the film. I think there's room enough for both styles of toys. ^-^

The toy decisions were Kenner's now Hasbro's as the company that bought the license for it.  I think Kenner did a reasonable job for 1993.  These days Hasbro could have easily used an actual film 3D digital model and printed out prototypes from that for realistic figures but they don't seem to have bothered..at all. That would have been cheaper as well I think.  They also think kids have the same attention span as your average pet, hence they NEED lights and sounds and oversized heads with too small bodies to stick play features in.   Really Kenner did a much better job when compared to what we are currently getting.  I have a feeling Hasbro views this as a quick cash in. Hence no licensed human figures. They will probably make a wave or two of figures that will be ditched when Star Wars comes out. :/  But, yes, if they had made a solid detailed figure line I'm certain it would sell.

I fully agree with you blade
But the problem is that most parrents (that have the money) still buy only cheap dinos
And kids ar often happy when they get A dino no matter how wrong it is
That is what they aim for

There are a couple issues there though..these toys aren't cheap really. I sell 3-10.00 dinos here in our giftshop and they don't move quickly.  Solid figures like CollectA's and Carnegie's offerings should actually be  slightly cheaper to manufacture.  Depending on the age of the kid I will agree..really young, 2-5 or so don't seem to mind, they just want big ones. But 6 and up, they know the names, the images they've seen and that's what they want..if it doesn't look like what they've been told is a correct dinosaur they won't go for it.  I've had to explain the chinasaurs we sell a few times to older kids who know a spino's head shouldn't look like an Allosaur's.

Likely. I mean look at their JP offerings, and then look at SW, where pretty much everyone who appears for splitsecond gets a figure.

Although I actually feared that development after the Age of Extinction toyline...
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Thanks for the back story, Chris! I do agree, even though they still didn't make any detailed figure line, Kenner did a much better job at the start than what we're seeing here.

The ones released for Jurassic Park were also better.

I wonder who the shadowed one is. ;D

I wish the actual toy line was as detailed as this. ::)
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

As I've said before, it's stunning and sad at how big of a nosedive the JP toys took beginning with the third film. I'll never forget seeing them for the first time at Toys R Us. I really couldn't believe Hasbro was trying to dump such garbage on kids and collectors.

JP3 did have some redeeming figures amongst it however (the large animatronic spinosaurus and the pterosaurs namely). So I'm hoping at least some of these will be good enough to mean that the whole line wasn't a waste.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Why does none of the JW merchandise so far look like the film designs? What's the point of having a license if your not going to apply it?

In regards to JP3 I think they were better than what we're getting now. The Pterosaurs were greatly detailed as were many of the other figures...the Spinosaurus though lacking some detail was a nice big figure and animated as well. I mean just look at the T-Rex from that line compared with the new one from the JW line..it actually looks like a JP dinosaur.

I remember seeing the JPIII figures for the first time. I thought they would be some kind of side-line, with there also being a proper line...

I didn't have high hopes for the JW toyline, but I at least thought they'd be on par with JP3. In fact, I thought we'd probably be getting a lot of the same stuff. I WISH we were getting JP3 reissues now.

What's really disappointing is they have enough unreleased sculpts of a superior quality they could make an entire wave.

Would love the unreleased deluxe Triceratops from the Lost World line. I think there was an ankylosaur as well.

There was. It was slated to be used in the Chaos Effect line but didn't make it either. Assuming they still have the molds for these, why not release them?

I'm pretty bummed I won't get a 3' human swallowing/Bull T-Rex like Mosasaur...I really thought all the stops would be pulled out for this line..I'm getting used to the disappointment though.

That would be the most awesome thing they could have done.

It sounded pretty cool in my head... lol

C'mon guys.. you all sound like they have nothing left to show with this JW line. Look at this Mosasaurus leak from a few days ago. You can't deny it's real compared to the official image. http://imgur.com/RXC6deI
There could well be many toys ( a la bull mosasaur) that haven't even leaked yet. I will not be judging these toys negatively until the day they're officially released (except for the Dino masher things  :-\).
