awesome monsterfest news, but why set the story in 1971??? i cant wait to see the new designs of the reptilian (can't really call all of them dinos right?) foes of Kong.

Yeah, why is the 70's relevant to a jungle island adventure? I hope there is no (albeit outdated) political or environmental message to bog down a simple adventure. We've already had a Kong movie set against 70's oil shortages. Environmental issues could work but doesn't need to be set in a particular time period.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Setting the Prequel in the 70s is odd, since the Original and Jackson Version are both set in the 30s...unless they want to make a prequel to the 70s Movie, which explains why there is only so little wildlife on that island and the lack of a mountain that looks like a skull....
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I really hope J.K. Simmons was joking about that place and time setting, it sounds off. This really ought to be kept in the Thirties, or even earlier.

The reason why it is set in the 70s? Why to highlight King Kong's disco era of course.  ;)

Stylistic opportunities? All I can imagine is King Kong meets Austin Powers.

This is the franchise Universal decides to build a new Island around as well for it's theme park...ugh.

as long as theirs Dinosaurs, i will be happy.

Is it even going to mesh with the original (and still the best K Kong) or any of the other Kong movies, including the newest Jackson remake, as a "Return to Skull Island" idea??  Could this be a brand new take on K Kong as if none of the others ever happened?

So I this going to be a 70's style gritty dirty harry style of film, or is the 70's now a new popular period for movies?  I know, a lot of questions, but the 70's seems a really strange choice.

Sounds like it's still in pre-production. the article said something about it  taking place in Detroit..another odd choice i think.

What is coming out of that sauropod's head?
uh, duh, KERATIN!

jk, but seriously, could that much keratin actually be there on the real animal... possibly?

I don't think its that bad. A lot less "speculative" *cough* this isn't real spec anyway *cough* than naked dromaeosaurs or crocodile armoured tyrannosaurs.

Remember these dinosaurs are supposed to be revisions of what people thought they were like in the 1930's, for me this actually seems like a really cool sci-fi take on the dated theory of sauropods living underwater and breathing through elevated nostrils.

Viking Spawn

If that image does become an actual scene, I wonder if Kong will climb up onto the neck of the Sauropod?  What's more, I wonder what the V-rex will look like too?

Have you all really forgotten about Robert T. Bakkers idea that brachiosaurus may have had a trunk ? If the animals from this island followed a different evolutionary road, as I understood they were supposed to..then this might make sense , or it least becomes more .....understood what they are trying for.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen
