My brother and I were shocked by how graphic some of the (many) deaths were. Granted we were loving it at the same time.

Totally agree with that. One scene was a bit too bloody imo, if you consider there were kids watching.

I like the scene where Wu talks to Masrani. Dr. Wu says that they can create "realistic" dinosaurs, just that the higher-ups wanted these "freaks". JW is actually more self-aware of its mistakes than I thought it would be.

T.rex looked sluggish. perhaps due to her age (?)

CityRaptor

Ah, I wondered if something like that would be mentioned. Guess the word "awesomebro" was not mentioned.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

It's borderline horror, in my opinion....not to mention a little bit misogynist and dumb in places.  But the pace never lets up so you keep paying attention, although there's little build up of suspense, and not that enough is made of the I rex's capacity to camouflage itself.  It's basically in the vein of a 1950s monster movie, really...

I just got back from the cinema. There was barely anyone there, so that was good.

I can accept that the sequels will never be able to capture the magic that the original had, but I enjoyed it. I just switched my brain off and had a good time.

I liked the little nods to the original. And the T.rex appearing again was awesome.

So what is the sequel hook?

The proposed military use of dinosaurs, I think. The DNA was pulled by the U.S. military before the park was destroyed.

Did anyone else see the Thrasher Trex toy in the movie?

No, but I did spot a Bull T-Rex near the end of the movie.

I've seen it twice now, once in an advance press screening and last night at the Dutch premiere. At first I was a little hesitant about it due to its predictability, but the second time I just totally rolled with it. It's no JP, but it's a very acceptable sequel/reboot. 8/10.

Here's some pics I took of the premiere event:

Entrance in jungle style.

Interactive container. If you get too close, a vicious Raptor screams!

Today this theatre also featured a Raptor Squad, including a fan made replica of a JP Park Ranger jeep and a movable Raptor cage, complete with armed Park Rangers and a Juvenile T-Rex (Not pictured, but caught on video)!

I just come back from cinema and watched JURASSIC WORLD for the first time. To me it´s the second best in the row, behind the 10/10 original JURASSIC PARK - it´s 9/10 in my opinion.
Did not miss any feathers, and one must not overcriticize the Stegos or Trikes, for they don´t play a big role anyway. I loved the irony and bows to the Original. The little boy even holds in his hands the night sight Timmy once wore.
One feels that the makers took it seriously this time and love Jurassic Park. This nerd in the control room even has many dinosaur / Chinasaur toy figures standing around at his workplace (couldn´t guess one of them, unfourtunately, maybe someone else can)
What can I say?
I was and I am still so excited and feel like I am 15 again, although it was clear from the very beginning it couldn´t beat JURASSIC PARK, but noone excepted this, right?
It´s totally recommendable and was a lot of fun with thoughtful moments. I did it like tyrantqueen and switched off any retention or "grown-up doubt" I had had in advance, I rolled with it like Roselaar - and there was my JP-feeling again, the feeling I missed so much watching II and III :-)

Just got back from the cinema.  :D

It was exactly what I expected - totally predictable. I mean, almost depressingly so. There were one or two segments - bits of scenes really - that I especially liked. However, as an overall cohesive experience, it was a failure for me.

I thought the cgi was mostly poor - all the animals look blobby and moved with no grace. And there was too much camera movement for my tastes, a stylistic choice of preference these days, but I had no idea what was actually happening in some of the cgi-heavy scenes. Too fast. Maybe I'm just too old, but why can't directors lock the camera down? There was one scene in this film that did do this, when the 'bad man' shoots a Dimorphodon from a helicopter. Loved that (because I could see what happened!).

The call backs to the original film (and there are many, some obvious, some subtle), felt gratuitous and mostly served to remind me what a superior film it was.

Sorry for the downer. It is still probably the second best film in the franchise, but way behind the original, and not far ahead of 2 and 3. I'll have more to say once I've gathered my thoughts.

Why did they do this, in the context of the film?

I'm happy you enjoyed the film as much as I did! I'll be re-watching it tonight with my friends and family, so I hope to just sit back and enjoy this time around. I was a bit anxious during my first experience.  ;D

I agree with your statement regarding the CGI- it was downright awful at times. Did you notice the motion blur they added to create the effect of movement? It was pretty unconvincing and actually started to give me a bit of a headache.  :-\

I'm a bit surprised you found it better than Lost World. Is that movie considered to be bad? I have heard more than a decade of complaints about JP3, but not the second film.

There seemed to be a few dead end characters. Can anyone clarify what happened to Wu? It seemed to be going somewhere and then was left hanging.

And Omar Sy's 'Barry'? I know 'Omar Sy didn't die', but was there some point of his character for the story that I missed?

I also noticed there is at least one scene in a trailer that wasn't in the film - a scene when Clare wipes dung on herself. That didn't appear in the film, although she is suddenly dung-smothered. I didn't like that scene in the trailer so I'm glad they removed it!

I know that at least some Pteranodons cause a helicopter to crash down through the aviary roof and explode when it hits the ground behind the Indominus rex from the trailers, but do the Dimorphodons cause any fatalities as well? :)
Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

stargatedalek

I was overjoyed to have so many elements from the TLW novel that were cut from the film get brought back!

Great pics Roselaar!  :)
Not sure now, I think I saw Malcolm's character cameoed in a book cover at the command center part? The glasses and black leather jacket looked similar.

It might be just a little bias towards the first but the the cgi of the first movie atill seem more realistic at times than some in JW.  :(

DinoLord

I finally got to watch it tonight. Honestly I had a bit of trouble keeping myself from getting all teary during certain scenes (such as when the boys first make it to the island). It didn't quite capture the sense of wonder the original film had, but that's a given. It's definitely on par or even better than the other sequels, which I enjoy greatly. My only complaints were that we didn't see enough of the T. rex and Dilophosaurus. The ending did feel a bit unresolved, but I guess that leaves a lot more room for sequel material.

OK, Just got home from the Theaters(15 minute drive in a Thunderstorm no less) And i have to say, despite the lack of Up to date accuracy, the movie was great.    Yes the Dinosaurs are still stuck in the 20th century, but they still felt like Dinosaur to me, even the Raptors.   One thing i liked is the fact that they acknowledge the fact that the I.Rex was not a real Dinosaur (Something im sure a lot of us wish they would admit that about almost every animal in the movie). The Camouflage of the animal was believable, and not like it can turn completely invisible like a super power.  Also, the Dilophosaurus Does appear in the movie as Hollow Graphic that used to show the tourists.

TheEnding was a Spectacular in my opinion, though i would have enjoyed it more IF FRIGGEN FACBOOK DID NOT SPOIL IT FOR ME :'(

Long Story short (This is the Spoilers thread, so if you dont want to know, then leave it now)  The I.Rex gets Eaten by the Mosasaurus.  How that happens, i will leave for you the others to Spoil

Well Owen Dukes it out with one, when the Pterosaurs Attack the park.

Yutyrannus

Do any of the species Csotonyi illustrated for the film's website appear in the actual film?
