Ah, fair enough. I guess it's not completely implausible then!

I watched the movie a third time yesterday. One of the announcements playing through the PA as the characters enter the the main street to head to the visitor center recommends chilean seabass.

They both wear glasses and use computers...but that's it. I don't see their personalities as similar. Cruthers is a geeky guy, and Arnold's personality is..well, Samuel L Jackson.

Could we say Arnold is a nerd and Cruthers is a geek?

They both have glasses, mustaches, JP logos on their attire, and use computers in the control room. Their personalities are very different.

Went to go watch the movie a second time, and heard Greys mom say "its a green button, push it" when saying goodbye to Zach. Almost missed it, very hard to catch.

Could be a coincidence but yeah, maybe!

I added some more to the list, some obvious one's I'd overlooked. We are nearly at 40 independent call backs!

This well done video shows how extensively Jurassic World copied the original films and demonstrates just how little creativity JW brought to the table: https://vimeo.com/143563837 It's one of the reasons I didn't like it. For me, this steps beyond homage into the realm of exploitation or plagiarism.

This is very common for long running franchises. Although I dont think JW is that much of a copy of JP, I still prefer it over the "raptor-hybrid mercenaries" plot that was leaked a few years back.

Yes, I know Star Wars does it too, for example, "Visual Echoes" I think George Lucas calls it. I don't like it there either, it is so contrived and self indulgent. Maybe I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so on the nose, or quite so pervasive.

So a 3.29 minute video comparing the similarities of a 2.4 hour movie with the combined total of 5.50 hours in three other movies is evidence of exploitation and plagiarism? With scenes of dinosaurs roaring, dinosaurs fighting, dinosaurs eating people, dinosaurs looking through foliage, vehicles driving around dinosaurs and people looking through binoculars at dinosaurs? The movie payed homage to the original, some might argue too much and it certainly relied on nostalgia to draw people in but this is not plagiarism. Spielberg himself chose Trevorrow for a reason. That said, he did choose Joe Johnston for JP3. Guess that's not the best argument!

It's not plagiarism. It's more like fan service. Apparently it worked because JW did really well at box office. It is lazy and uncreative, but it seems to please the hardcore fans.

It pleased me! Normally I might say it's lazy and uncreative but I think it was integrated really well into this movie. Maybe I'm just a fanboy though. I did just come home with a "Jurassic World" bed comforter. Second best "Jurassic Park" movie dammit!

I wouldn't call myself a fangirl of the series, but I liked it. It was good popcorn viewing :)

I try to stay away from the fanboy aspect, but I also enjoyed the movie.  Could it have been better, yes, but I ate popcorn, watched my kid jump and be scared (in a fun way) of the I-Rex, and cheered for Blue.  I had fun.

It is evidence of 3.29 minutes of it. The video is not exhaustive. I'll admit that plagiarism is too strong a word, for sure, but it is in that realm. In my opinion there's a difference between respectful homage and lazy unapologetic copying. Whether it is intentional or not, that's how it comes across to me. Maybe it's a matter of degree - a nod or two wouldn't hurt, but crikey they drained those originals dry! If I were being kind I'd call it derivative, but copying isn't deriving.

Quote"It certainly relied on nostalgia to draw people in"

Don't you agree that that's exploitative? Of both the original films and their audiences.

Quote"Spielberg himself chose Trevorrow for a reason."

Spielberg himself could be the director and I'd feel the same way.

Quote"it seems to please the hardcore fans."

It may have satisfied some hardcore fans, but it didn't satisfy this one. :-[

What were you looking for in a JP sequel that JW didn't deliver? I'm not a hardcore fan, I just guess I don't care enough about the series to get upset about it.

I'll take this to the general discussion thread.

That's a good question to ask. I personally wasn't expecting anything good, and I ended up having a really fun time with it. Both the previous JP sequels stunk IMO (although I have nostalgia for TLW) so it's not like we hadn't seen something worse already in this franchise.
