Ha thats awesome! I like that theres a story to it. Makes the park visit experience even better! :D
I'm seeking Orsenigo and other interesting vintage dinosaurs. Contact me if you can help with my search!

I think so, I love telling a story through art.  I added one sign at the front as you come in near Big Al explaining he's looking for his son and it asked you to help.  Later on there is a statue of Little Al being spotted by Ray our Stegosaurus, it tells you through ryhme,  that he's in trouble again as we feared and you need to tell little al to run home.  I'll be working and hear " run home little al!"  from a group ..it's hilarious. :D

I hope to add Little Al to more scenes this year, poking out from behind trees, out of crates and such..he's sneaky lol

Mamasaurus

I love little Al's story, and great progress on the coloring book!  I'd like to contribute an illustration as well. Probably little Al's encounter with Ray, since stegosaurus is a particular favorite of mine. I'll definitely look through the pictures you have for ideas :)

That would be great! I've had to stop myself for the past few days, so much other park work to get done, but I'll hopefully be back at it next week.  If you need any specific references just let me know. :)

Thank you, your Facebook page has plenty of material to work with.  I already have a few quick thumbnail sketches based off of the oviraptor pair, panicked struthiomimus(?) mom and chicks, grumpy stegosaurus, and the little pachycephalosaur playing a rough game of tag with little Al. :). I could draw all of them and you can take your pick of your favorites. I most likely won't be finished until after the holidays, but I could send them your way as I finish them.

What would be the best way to send them over? :)

That sounds great! lol  I probably won't be done myself til January sometime.  If you can send them to [email protected] THANK YOU!

Input needed,  working up a design for a juvi Rex around 8 months maybe?   I have two different head sizes and i'm curious which seems more plausible.

Archinto

number one looks a little more "right" than the second. The eye sockets seem a bit large on #2

I'd try and follow that skeleton thats floating around out there, the photo of it with the blonde gal.... maybe print out the skull in life size dimensions for reference for your model. I think a baby rex would look Killer in the park! Looking forward to seeing what you create!

If you intend on making this accurate I have few a good references. It's an adult Tarbosaurus but in front of it is a juvenile that would be a couple of years old but shouldn't be too different from it. You could also use ''Raptorex'' as a good base, it's a very complete specimen and it was most likely a juvenile Tarbosaurus. So I added a few skeletals of that.

The first design is more accurately proportioned.

Some basic guidelines for anyone wanting to help out :

The guidelines are simple, subject must be Backyard Terrors Dinosaur Park related, so must feature dinosaurs and characters( Big Al, Little Al, Stan/T-Rex, ect ) from the Park, you can go as detailed as you like but they must be in black and white/ line art. Other than that, it's for kids, so have fun with it. Hopefully we can sell enough of these to help the Park out.

I could possibly contribute, time and energy being a major constraint once Uni starts. Honours is basically Purgatory!

lol that is the one I was using along with a few other pics if you download their pdf catalog : http://www.pbmnh.org/museum-store/product/juvenile-tyrannosaurus-rex/

It says this skeleton is 50" long, I broke that down and made a full body sketch with measurements , for some reason I can't figure out once the skull was done the rest of the body didn't work out.  So I scaled the skull a bit smaller and tried again, that is the 1st image.  The 2nd one is the original skull I sketched out on paper tacked over the body that fit in the 50" dimensions.  The eye socket might look bigger as it's the same eye size in both.   I've wanted to do a little Rex for awhile , the idea went though a lot of concepts,  a rex nest with a cutaway showing the little ones hatching, bigger 5' or more , my latest idea is a meeting between a little rex and a baby trike ;)

Hmmm, how sure are they Raptorex is a baby tyrannosaur?

The skeleton i'm using is 50" long and supposedly is 6-8 months.  Didn't dinosaurs grow rather quickly? I would expect a 2 year old to be a bit larger..not sure about the bodily changes otherwise though.

We're pretty certain it is, I'll post the link to the paper about it. The basic jist of it is: it has all of the features of one, is the right age and the dating methods used were inaccurate. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0021376

As for the growth rate, amongst tyrannosaurids the growth rate isn't very straight to say the least, it has a strong S-curve to it. Juveniles grew at a kind of average-ish rate, the teens grew really fast and that growth then slowed nearing adulthood. A ~1.5m rex would I guess be around

Figure about Tyrannosaurus growth rates taken from Hutchinson et al 2011, as you can see there is a very strong curve. The mass figures of the adults are somewhat higher than they probably should be though. And they their lowest result for the oldest rex, which should be higher here compared to the others but.

This could also be of help, this is the youngest Tyrannosaurus specimen found to date and it would've been around the size of a jaguar.

Great job on what you're doing, what materials do you use?

Blade-of-the-Moon

Thanks bud.  I use plywood, 2x4, 12.5 gauge welded steel fencing, poultry fencing, spray foam, heavy duty vinyl and Apoxie Sculpt.

Oh my, must take quite a while to finish. Just curious, do you ever sell these? (no I'm not interested in buying, I'm always broke, just curious)

Roughly 1-6 months depending on weather and size.  I haven't sold any dinos bigger than a hatchling, just too much for most.  A dinosaur that a place in China can whip up from a mold in a week is 1500.00 I have to charge 3 times that because ours take so much longer and are one of a kind.  No one wants to pay 1500 much less 4500.00 , but we can make them for the park because labor isn't any issue since it's just our free time.

Thanks, I was a little afraid it was too small.  I added some larger eyelids to compensate a bit so what you are seeing is about 2/3 of the total size or so.  :)
