Balaur

Or a juvenile Pachycephalosaurus.   :P

Anyways, ots still wonderful. If I go to Tennessee ill make sure to stop by!

Blade-of-the-Moon

lol all depends on your views.. I do explain that it's thought they may be a juvenile form of Pachycephalosaurus when talking to visitors.  All part of the mystery and fun of paleontology !

You'd be very welcome !

Did some work today on test fitting the eyes.  I know I have quite a bit of epoxy to add to them covered enough. A couple questions to those friends of mine who experts at this sort of thing.. Do they look to be at the right height ? Are they suppose to face completely forwards as I have them now ?  Thanks for you feedback. " note the head is tilted slightly lower to the left..I couldn't get him to set perfectly level for anything. "

Looks spot-on to me, Blade.  TRex had forward facing eyes and stereoscopic vision giving it the depth perception so important to a predator....

P.S.  Once its fleshed out, those glass eyes are gonna make it look scarier than s__t!!!  That is one awesome sculpt.  Are you going to have it sticking out of the canopy like they have the TRex and Spino doing at Universal Studios?

Thanks. A lot of references I found showed the eyes slightly tilted back and not completely forward..but I knew that I had read T-Rex had forward facing eyes for better vision than most. I just wasn't sure to what extent..lol

I think the eyes are a bit large..I'll have to apoxie eye lids over them quite a bit  I think.

Heh heh..that was the original plan..right now we're hoping to do a full body for this prehistoric beast..ballparking about 35.5' . :)

Life size, eh?  That is gonna be a stunner.  I assume you'll be doing it in sections?

Sorta..I do the head's separate, then the arms, the body and last the feet.  So the whole body is pretty much all worked on at once, then we attach the head , arms are next and last feet.

We really hope that adding the " King " puts us over the top . :)

Velociraptor #3 progress :

T-Rex eyes ..again.

I've been advised that Rex's eyes sat more like an eagle's.. not directly forward but tilted back slightly. Apparently it was like this more :

I'm testing eyelid designs now and seeing how much of these 4" eyeballs I need to cover..anyone have any ideas ?

Will you add feathers to the Velociraptor? It looks awesome
And I can't wait to see that Tyrannosaurus finished  :)

Yes the Velociraptor will be mostly feathered, just like the first prototype I showed I here. There will be three in all the 2nd I've started feathering but the haunt here is taking priority giving me only a couple days a week to work on these guys.

Yep. I really like their dino models. Their Velociraptor is 1 of my favorites, lack of primaries not withstanding: http://piclib.nhm.ac.uk/results.asp?image=049422&itemw=4&itemf=0001&itemstep=1&itemx=9

Same here. I've always liked their work.

It is a nice piece even with the incorrect hand position as well. :)

Pretty cool write up man!

But being in Tennessee, do you not get creationist dolts/fundaMENTALists giving you flak?

Actually, the hand position is fine AFAICT. Specifically, the palms seem to be folded back against the arms & facing inwards like those of birds (as opposed to downwards like those of bunnies ;) ).

Thanks !

I don't really broach the subject to be honest. I've had about 4 church groups come this year and donate. I've done jobs for their VBS classes even. I've only met 4 people that were creationists and only one was from a local church.  I did have one older fellow ask me and since I know both versions I told him what the experts in dinosaurs say and then told him the church explanation. He seemed satisfied I knew both sides.

So I pretty much get along. I haven't any real issues at all. Some of my road signs keep disappearing but I'm pretty sure that's kids who want the art work.
