Ok after Papo's revelations all the cards are on the table! Can anybody who has time and skills organise a poll for the biggest dino toy surprise of 2016?
Run!

Unless Rebor knocks it out off the park with their Deinonychus trio, I think it's safe to say that Papo wowed almost everyone with their feathered raptor.  Then again, most would prefer to wait until they're holding it to say that for sure lol
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Yes, a non-pronated thumbs up from me too! I was expecting a JP-style raptor with feathers, like Schleich and Mojo, but it turned out so much better!

DinoG

Oh well, the raptor is something indeed!!! Will definitely get it.

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

For me the velociraptor feathered is a substantial improvement on the figure of those animals by Papo and Kaprosuchus of the same company. They were two exceptional figures.

CollectA's Beishanlong, Deinocheirus, and Struthiomimus beat out Papo's feathered Velociraptor, at least for me. Raptors, even feathered ones, have become a staple in dinosaur toylines, but ornithomimosaurs are an all-too rare treat.

You raise a good point about the inexplicable infrequency of ornithomimosaurs, Suspsy, but for me, the Papo Velociraptor is more surprising. I fully expected a JP 'raptor with some fuzz on its back, a mohawk, and maybe some vanes along its ulnae - the sort of thing companies like Schleich, REBOR, and Mojö have done in the past. The actual product isn't perfect, but it's definitely better than anticipated!

I agree. In this case it's not the choice in genera that's the biggest surprise, it's the execution on what they've chosen. CollectA making obscure and up-to-date models is not a big surprise to me. Papo making a properly feathered Velociraptor is. But it is nice to get three ornithomimosaurs this year and they're all quite lovely.

Suspsy what you say is true Collecta is perhaps the best companies of toy dinosaurs.

Anyway I keep my biggest surprises were the velociraptor feathered and of course the Kaprosuchus. Papo has greatly improved its figures and no longer rely on these two cases stuffed films or animated series.

Moreover rightly it seems a figure of terror but the finish is good baryonyx Papo. Another thing I expected this figure.

Meso-Cenozoic

Well, the actual biggest surprise for me was how the Papo Baryonyx turned out. ;) Haha!

But I have to agree that the biggest surprise STAR figure this time around is the Papo Velociraptor. I do have to confess, though, I was not on the team that thought they might screw it up. Lol! I knew they had it in them, especially after hearing from their sculptor a while back. Bravo, Papo! You've been the king of exquisite detailing and believable realism in dino toyland for some time now. But now with a few figures under your belt in the accuracy department, you could be well on your way to be crowned king of all dino toys! 8)

It's definitely better than I expected too. It certainly makes up for the weird-looking Baryonyx.

Maybe just adding to the echo chamber, but:

Papo's Velociraptor might not be the best figure announced for 2016; my personal choice would be the CollectA Beishanlong.

And it might not be the biggest surprise; I would nominate the Baryonyx because it's completely different from what I expected.

But it's the most pleasant surprise (Safari's Shunosaurus might be the second), and thus the biggest surprise star as I interpret the phrase.

But also we don't know yet what, if anything, we might be getting from Favorite and Bullyland.

Exactly.

Also, since it seems it's going to be a 2016 release afterall, i nominate Banjo. :)

Papo feathered vraptor and collecta dead feathered trex is really stole my heart already. Well lets see what kaiyodo got, i love kaiyodo 2015 dinosaur capsule Q series especially the mosasaurus. For favorite, i hope its not just a repainted figure

Also an excellent candidate! Hope the AAoD Museum gives him some company in the coming year, too.
