A few repaints alongside the invictas for size compare...that Apatosaurus is rather large.

Is that a real Horizon Apato?

Had not visited my Sauropod collection for a bit so I figured I would add this. The model everyone will recognize, but I just finally purchased it myself The base is courtesy of Bob Morales and was actually made and painted to accompany that piece, so forgive me please my artistic license here. I did find the front feet for the model match the prints Bob had made for his model !!

Perfect
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

yes, that is an actual Horizon Apatosaurus. I purchased and built it myself several years ago. I have repainted it more times than I would like to count. If he looks a little too fat or inflated, it is because he is stuffed to the bursting point with old newspaper to flesh out his sides and so forth. Still I think the final paint scheme i settled for is fairly retro looking and matches the sculpt fairly decently.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

So...it's not a recast? :)

amargasaurus cazaui

It came in its original box, and seemed to me at least to be authentic. It is a vinyl kit. I bought it around the year 2000 so I cannot state definitely. If its a recast versus the original what would I look for to differentiate? I was not aware these were that high demand that there are recasts out there?

If it was a recast, you probably would have had to purchase it from Thailand or Hong Kong.  Recasts are general lower quality because they're a copy of copy, resulting in inferior detailing.

It's not that they're in high demand, but most model kits have a short distribution period before they're discontinued. Thus getting ahold of an original can be hard and expensive.

I would guess that yours is an original, seeing as it came in the original box :) I can't say for sure though, since some recasters are very good at what they do :/

CityRaptor

Yes, there are several recasts of that kit on eBay.

I think it looks great. The green color gives it a bit of Sinclair Oil vibe.

The massive vinyl model that is somewhat orange and browns in color, was produced as part of a line of Jurassic park models. They crop up now and again for sale on ebay, and are starting to get a bit pricey. That is where I acquired mine. It is a huge model for sure, and almost dwarves everything else in my collection.
The next Brachiosaurus down is a resin sculpt done by Bob Morales of Dragon Attack Studios, and was sculpted, built and painted for me, in a paint scheme suggestive of a Giraffe, hence Giraffatitan.
I hope that answers your question and thanks for your comments !!

had always wondered what it was that kept this figure from being more desireable...the sculpt itself or the weak paint application. I think Martin answered that for me, in creating a gorgeous addition to my collection.

Wow! A new star is born :)!

Sauropodiphiles,

Nice collection above, but as I collect (and sauropods especially) I can reflect on the size of these magnificent animals,....., astounding.  I've been to the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh and the Apatosaur as well as the Diplodicus(sp?) just boggle my senses.  Perhaps collecting dinosaur models and figures aid my awe and wonder.  My hats off to the artist and companies that manufacture these figures.

I...I really need that Brachiosauros, as well as Dipurodocasu. But I really do not know where to put them.

I've done a lot of informal research on sauropod phylogenies, especially on Euhelopus, Mamenchisaurus, and their kin, as well as a somphospondilian known as Erketu, an animal with a dis-proportionally long neck, whose bones are not too dissimilar to the former. Apparently Euhelopus is titanosauriforme, but Mamenchisaurus and Omeisaurus are not? &&@&$%@&^%*&^!

I'll just leave this here :

That Apatosaurus is really big...sheesh.

amargasaurus cazaui

Amazing piece by Martin Garratt...this was done with a Kaiyodo dinotales Brachiosaurus. I was amazed, especially with how small this model is and how detailed the work is.

Here's my Geene models Barosaurus, it's not finished yet (still needs painting and some repair work done to the claws) but I like it a lot.

I love rearing sauropods :D I'll also post my collection of 'pods here too when I get around to it :)

Nebuloid

Love that barosaurus, sadly it's discontinued... Are you going to build a base ? Because I think it needs it.
And please do show your collection, love looking at collection pics !

Yes, mostly likely. In the photo, I had to use masking tape to make it stand by itself. I plan to make a base from Sculpey and pin the model to the base :)

ProSauropod

I'm also a "rearing Sauropod" fan - please post your collection; I don't care if it's a Chinasaur or re$in ma$terpiece !  Pluto is a planet, and Sauropods walked on 2 feet !  Every time I visit the AMNH , the Barosaurus just looks ......................... right.

amargasaurus cazaui

Newest addition to the team.....This is a Battat resin master Amargasaurus . Originally purchased with a broken tail , It was repaired, the missing end replaced, and the entire dinosaur was then painted and based courtesy of Martin Garrat. Destined for a key spot in my Amargasaurus herd.

PS thanks Ataraxus , great model, and I appreciate it. I hope you like what I had done with it.
