Thank you!

The sabertooth is from a Dino-Riders-esque line of toys called "Primal Clash". As far as I know, they were only available in the US through Walmarts (I think they had a different name and a different distributor internationally). I checked Walmart's website and only see 3rd party resellers, so I'm not sure if they are still in production.

Other critters in the line:

Here's the Walmart listing, but the price is way higher (I think I paid like $12? for mine):

Lol you aren't the first to say it. Its hard to tell in the image because if the glare but I swear its resting on soft packing material. Saying that, this is an old image I've since moved it back into its box for safekeeping while I figure out a base.

Thanks you for taking the time to do that, it's much appreciated.  I had no idea it was a toy, that's hilarious!  From the panned back image it looked like a fancy sculpture to me.  That's pretty nice for a toy I might consider picking one up.  It's overall layout looks good.

I love it!  Looks mean as hell!  Looks like my Giga been working in the coal mines, LOL!  Seeing yours is making me feel like buying another one and doing a darker scheme on the second.  I wouldn't out and out copy you but....close...they say imitation is best form of flattery. ;D

Sincerely, that repainting of the original in 180 degrees wins in quality. You've done a great job you don't have to envy accomplished artists like Martin Garratt

I fully endorse you copying the design if you like it. I copied it directly from this:
https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/isle/images/9/9a/Amber_Giganotosaurus_The_Isle.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20161205031117

I even copied the little chin spikes :P

I try to limit copying designs directly, but it helps a lot when learning (especially when its your own personal models). Having a reference image is nice because it often forces you to figure out how to replicate something that you've never done before.

That's very big praise and I appreciate it a lot. I'll continue to work hard to earn that comparison!

Halichoeres

That Anzu! I swoon.

The Giga looks really good in its new skin too. It's a really great sculpt, just been overshadowed by later releases with less seafoam-y color schemes.

Finished the Prey Collection Spinosaurus.

I thought I'd try something different and attempt oil washes. In the end, I do not like it, but I think its more about the model than the method. The details are very fine, and even the lightest touch will remove the oil from the recesses. I think I also used too dark a wash color. It looks very messy, but maybe this individual lives in a muddy area.

Being oil I could simply remove it and try again, but this has been sitting on my "to-do" shelf for long enough. I'll live with it  :-\

Looks amazing. Probably my favorite Spino. Where did you get yours?

avatar_paintingdinos @paintingdinos , it's unique, I like it. Also, remember, an elusive 'excellent' is the enemy of 'good enough.' And your production is way better than good enough.

Its my favorite too. I got mine directly from the Prey Collection FB page when he was still printing/selling them himself. I suppose the only way to get them now is to pay someone to print it from the STL files (which he still sells: here's the link).

There's at least one printer on etsy (MadMaxMiniature) that works with him, but doesn't have any of his dinosaurs. I've considered reaching out to them and seeing if they'd get the STLs and print some of the dinos, I'd like to have more.

Thank you very kindly. I do agree- done is always better than none. Plus I got to try out a new skill/medium, which is never wasted effort.

CARN0TAURUS

This one really showcases the growing sophistication of your work.  The fading is exquisite and gives the piece a super believable look.  That looks like a real slimy river dwelling predator.  Perhaps you don't like the amphibian like vibe?  IDK but it stands to reason that if his tail was built like that he spent a lot of time in the water which in rivers can be murky so this type of dark coloration would've given him the perfect camouflage in his environment.  I think there is something sinister and terrifying about this one.  If that's what you were going for you definitely hit it out of the park.

Shonisaurus

I congratulate you for your work, that greenish aspect gives truth to the figure and it is as if it were camouflaged among the algae. Your work is precious.

I thank you both very kindly!

I'm glad others are enjoying it. I don't hate it, just wish it hit closer to what I imagined in my head. But for a beast living in a murky, muddy river it probably works just fine.

Saying that,

If you're interested, I reached out the printer who I thought might be able get some of the old PreyCollection models, and he is indeed willing to print them. I'm chatting with him now about an order, and if the print quality comes back good, would you like me to ping you with his details?

avatar_SBell @SBell avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres
Pinging you two for the above, because in addition to dinosaurs, Prey also did a very nice arapaima that (as far as I know) was never publicly printed. I'm going to try and get a copy of it... same thing, if it turns out nice, would you like the details? If I recall, you both enjoy fish  ;)

Here's the model:

avatar_paintingdinos @paintingdinos Yes please! I'd be interested in several of his aquatic "dinosaurs", a couple TMNT guys, and an arapaima myself.

Will do! He's getting the files from Alex and will get back with me probably sometime tomorrow with a price quote. I think he already has most of the TMNT models listed on his Etsy store, so if the quality is good, those should be very simple to order.

Halichoeres

That looks quite good but I get what you mean about not matching your vision. I often have that feeling when I draw or paint something.

And thanks for thinking of me for the arapaima. Not in my scope, although I do have his stylized Parahelicoprion.

Got these in recently, I think the quality turned out very good. I opted to get the Spino in a smaller scale than the original model was printed in, so I'm not sure if that has any major affect on the level of detail, but I can't find any major faults.

The arapaima came as a single piece and looks great:

Spino does require assembly, but that was true of the original. The gaps on the connection points for this one feel a bit larger than they were on the original, but still a good fit by garage kit standards.

Also got some coral scenery bits for other projects (they look great):

MadMaxMiniature did the print and they were excellent to work with. Went out of their way to help me with these by getting the STLs even though they didn't already have them, adjust the scaling to what I wanted, etc. They added both models to their etsy store if you (or anyone else) is interested in picking them up. I suspect they'd be willing to print the other Prey models if anyone really wanted them.
