One thing I've noticed for this first reveal is that, outside of this forum, it isn't really being mentioned as much as 2017's first reveal. No "shop-blog" from an English speaking country has talked about this first reveal, no Youtube videos have been made yet and all the Facebook comments on the individual model photos are on extant animals. And these were all things that were done within a few days in late 2016.

I personally speculate this is probably because of the low number and low discussion-value of the prehistoric animals CollectA has made (Not that it hasn't generated any discussion here.). The reason why I don't think this is to do with the overall quality is because most of the first reveals of 2017 weren't very high quality models either (i.e. they weren't CollectA's best, judging by the photos.). I wonder if anyone else has anything to say about this.

Then again, this is one of the things that reminds me how separate the DTF is from most of the online community, even most of the prehistoric community (with the exception of a few youtubers.).

Maybe it has to do with the species selection.  The first 2017s revealed were two of the ever popular ceratopsians (including a deluxe which spawned the usual scaling questions) and a stegosaur, where as this year it's a relatively nondescript ornithopod and coelurosaur.  While 2018's dinos are more obscure and appealing to many of us specialists, they lack the frills, spikes, and teeth that capture more public interest.

I guess that's a factor too. There were definitely a lot of ceratopsians (weird, frilled dinosaurs) in the earlier 2017 reveals by CollectA (By the way, if they reveal a ceratopsian this year, then I'll smash my computer screen while viewing the picture of said ceratopsian.). The species for the earlier reveals of 2017 were not well known, but they could capture the public interest with their weird bodily features. This reveal can't do the same thing. This combined with low number of models per reveal make a reveal that is likely to only be discussed on specialist forums (eg. None other than the DTF).

I thought Metriacanthosaurus was a megalosaurid but I think that's outdated. I always refer to Acrocanthosaurus and  Carcharodontosaurus as carnosaurs or carcharodontosauridae. Carnosaururia is the term that includes Allosauroidea and Carcharodontosauria. So I guess by allosauroid Sim meant carnosaur. Unless they mean the same thing? But I prefer the more conventional term as it's less confusing.

Adding to what suspsy and Halichoeres have said, the megalosaurid CollectA made in 2016 was the Torvosaurus.  Metriacanthosaurus is currently considered to be an allosauroid closely related to Sinraptor and Yangchuanosaurus, and the head of CollectA's looks like it's based on Yangchuanosaurus.  As far as I've seen, Carnosauria and Allosauroidea basically do end up meaning the same thing.  I don't know about any of the two being "the more conventional term", as I've seen both used to refer to these animals about an equal amount of times.

I kind of like the Sciurumimus, issues(?) aside. I'm glad there's a figure of that squirrel mimic dinosaur. I usually don't care for CollectA's black eyes, but I think they work well on this critter. Honestly I hope there will be a Deluxe (or whatever) Dunkleosteus based off the one from the prehistoric marine tube. This is really the only thing I hope to see released this year, everything else can surprise me.

Edit: Just a few posts below this one, and they did it. They really did it.

Approximate scale calculations for the two models revealed so far, since the sizes of the models have been leaked by Everything Dinosaur and similar posts were made in the New for 2017 thread:

Mantellisaurus: 1:47

Sciurumimus: 1:5, due to the fact that the specimen this model is based on is a juvenile (which is the only known specimen.)

More new toys to be revealed tomorrow; can't wait!

While there's no denying that tyrannosaurs have already enjoyed a heap of toys, I for one will be thrilled to see a Gorgosaurus. :)

Me personally, I want to see them try another small to medium sized feathered dinosaur. I predict that we will get at least 1 dromaeosaur, at least 1 other small non-maniraptoran coelurosaur, at least 1 feathered tyrannosaur and
at least 1 feathered dinosaur from another group I have not mentioned during all the reveals we have yet to see.

I also predict we will get a Deluxe Shantungosaurus at some point in the reveals.

Jose S.M.

They haven't made an accurate feathered dromeosaur yet, their Velociraptor and Utahraptor are not properly feathered sand have other anatomical inaccuracies. I really hope they give us one soon.

I hope Ravonium that your wishes are fulfilled (they are mine). But it seems more like a wish than a reality, unfortunately, unless someone in the forum knows the revelations, we are not fortune-tellers.

But sincerely like Suspy a gorgosaurus, albertosaurus, alioramus, tarbosaurus (tyrannosaurus battar) or daspletosaurus deluxe size (in fact I have claimed a lot from the company Collecta.

A deluxe shantungosaurus would be great! since it is a spec.pecies practically unknown in the toy market. An ornithopod that accompanies my parasaurolophus would be for me very appreciated for a clear reason there are few ornithopods represented in the toy market and the collection of dinosaurs. I also hope that one day Collecta or another company will make an updated edmontosaurus (with its new look) and not a "retro" animal such as the missing Edmontosaurus Schleich.

The same is the current Schleich who makes a new epic version of that dinosaur edmontosaurus in years to come. Anyway, I believe Ravonium that you know perhaps something of the new revelations and I say it with all the respect and affection of the world.

When you predict all these developments is that perhaps you are advancing some of the news of Collecta 2018. And I apologize in advance if perhaps my deduction was not relevant.

I said hopefully that your predictions are met, but for me Collecta in its prehistoric animals is the most unpredictable company in its novelties because it performs fortunately many dinosaurs and prehistoric animals that never or almost never have been commercialized in the toy market.

Faelrin

While I'd like to see CollectA make a dromaeosaurid again, I can only hope its wings would be done properly with primaries, and without the odd spiky secondaries that stick out of the arms that are on so many of their feathered dinosaur figures (such as the Struthiomimus, both the newer Deinocheirus, etc).

Honestly though I have my preferences I am interested in all the figures of dinosaurs or prehistoric animals in general but especially those that are dark or little known.  ^-^

terrorchicken

I think its about time they made a carnotaurus...

For me, prehistoric mammals and Paleozoic creatures are welcome. I love prehistoric life in general, although the real kings of prehistory are dinosaurs.  :)

I would drop cash in a heartbeat if either Collecta or Safari made a Permian toob. Is it just me, or was Permian paraphernalia rather more common back in the 60's? Marx/Invicta had a bunch of Permian models, didn't they?

Ungh, I would just die if they made a roughly 1:40 scale Shantungosaurus! I would show it off to every single house guest. "Yes, that's really how big that duckbill would've been next to a Brachiosaurus!"

TheCambrianCrusader

Huh these were released on my birthday, great birthday present Collecta ;D! As for the figures, while the sciurumimus looks well proportioned and the base looks much better than previous bases, the feathers look a little crude. The mantellisaurus on the other hand looks amazing, didn't even know about this genus!

I know just as much about this as any other forum member. I'm basing this off what they've revealed in their first reveal, as there is one thing that is predictable about CollectA:what dinosaur group they're focusing on this year will have at least 1 model in the first reveal. In this case, I believe that the theme for this year is hadrosaurs and possibly feathered dinosaurs.

Absolutely beautiful model, can't wait to make herds of Iguanodon and Mantellisaurus out of this beauty. The front claws look slightly off though.

FINALLY, we finally have an Estemmenosuchus! Though... something looks a little off about this one, maybe it's the pose? Or the odd colour choices? Hope they release a smaller Estemmenosuchus mirabilis for their regular line, with more mammalian characteristics.

Reminds me a lot of the BBC Dunkleosteus, and for once we have a dunkleosteus who's facial plating is covered by skin.

Fantastic new releases, can't wait to get them.  ^-^

A 1:40 scale Iguanodon!! YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
There you go people, those who wanted and Iguandon instead of Mantellisaurus don´t have to worry about that, because we now can get BOTH.
Also, with this we don´t have to worry about whether or not Papo will ever release it´s own.

Although I have no interest in the Estemmenosuchus, I´m happy that other memeber will finally be able to get one since it has been requested for ages.

Dunkleosteus is good, the fact that the armor is covered in skin makes it different from the other Dunk figures from the past few years. However at 1:20 is too big for my criteria.

Roselaar

Fabulous! Finally another decent Estemmenosuchus! Iguanodon is lovely too. Not entirely convinced by the Dunk, but it's certainly not bad.
