Next, I got my hands on real vintage :
makino-models Art modeling collection 1/20 DILOPHOSAURUS , about 30 years ago :

It fills like Resin, but I suspect it's a different technology based on paper ( えんどるふぃん  ).

It comes with a bigger optional base - but I had not have the courage to try forcefully pulling out the smaller base :

Here's another example, not mine, with the bigger stand :

This thing really fills like it was done by hands one by one, before any commercial production.
so, I guess you won't be bumping it arround too often :

As always, I leave several links, for those of you who want to investigate  further :

- Blog post, with a page dedicated to this modeling center
- Other examples of his works in the center

- Models by Hirokazu Tokugawa which may have been involved with this center

Shonisaurus

Then the prehistoric animals that you sample in the first link, http://dinosaur-fan.net/naruhodo/tamura/64/ Were they made of plastic? They look like resin, especially I like the Ophiacodon and the cotylolyns and sincerely all their animals from the Paleozoic era like the gorgonopsido. Sorry they are discontinued.

They are very good figures, thanks for the BrontoScorpio links.

Got another real piece of history :
ARTPLA Hobby magazine, no. 3 from 1986 - featuring the early Kaiyodo works of Kazunari Araki :

Inside are tantalizing photos of some early works :

For more info - you can read in THIS BLOG.

Favorite has made tribute to the Dinosaur Plastic Model History - where you can see all sort of old models.

As for the cover photo :
It is of the legendary painting by william Stout of a Tenontosaurus vs. a pack of Deinonychus :

The figure itself was made available as a Kaiyodo resin model kit by Shinichi Yamashita
and I think is considered to be the most sought and valuable of all Kaiyodo kits.
If you have to spare some 1,000$ or so - you might try and get it here :

Resin kit of Tenontosaurus vs Deinonychus

Come to think of it - I too have recently gotten a hold of three of those early model kits :

- Apatosaurus
- Megalosaurus
- Parasaurolophus

The problem is -
I have absolutely no skill nor experience in building up kits - and those early one doesn't seem to make things easy for the amateur collector -
they don't have special sockets to fit or iron bars inserting into special holes etc.

As being worth much more as a collection history item than a display model, I do suspect people often tend to leave them unbuilt as they are -
and they just simply 'switch hands' every 10 years still in their original form
.
well, I do hope I'll be able to break this vicous cycle for those three lot and give them their rightful honored place in my collection ...  :D

Shonisaurus

I congratulate you BrontoScorpio for your recent acquisitions, although in my case I'm not a fan of dinosaur kits, that does not mean that those "retro" figures of dinosaurs will be a gift for the eyes when sticking and painting them.

The magazines are very nice.

PhilSauria

I'm with you on the kits - hard to know where to start (usually a YouTube video). I've only ever built one, the Horizon Elasmosaurus, and the end result was not exactly what you'd call professional, but it has a good side and a bad side so I just keep the good side facing out on display. Big Araki fan (I have a lot of Fave co figures) so fascinating to see his early work. Good pick ups.

Continue with Kaiyodo - Just got those in mail :

The 2 white ones are Kaiyodo figure museum limited Tyrannosaurus Assembly kit figure sold at the museum shop.
which opened on September 7, 2005 in Nagahama city, Shiga prefecture.

Take a look at some BLOG VISIT. and A REVIEW.
And some interesting Painting schemes and Comparissons.

The Prototype is after the  kaiyodo DINOLAND 100mm by Shinobu Matsumura - what leads me to the stars of this aquizition :
The 2  kaiyodo DINOLAND 100mm by Shinobu Matsumura Tyrannosaurus & Triceratops, made by Kaiyodo for the "National museum of Nature and Science" :

You just can't get heigher than this - The quality of the sculpt and material is outstanding.

These two are part of the Resin collection set, and are not the later PVC Eddition.
( Can compare the 1st set to the 2nd set ).

For more on the DINOLAND 100mm see This DTF Tread.

There was also a set of Unpainted Resins of the same prototype -
but they can still be regarded as 100mm - since no assemble was required :

I like this Triceratops so much - I think it's the best retailed Triceratops ever made ( But that is just my opinion ).

It really reminds me, Especially the head sculpt and position,  of Charles c knight restoration mural painting from the FIELD MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY in CHICAGO :

Speaking of  Charles c knight- Here's something I've been thinking of acquiring for quite a while -
but put it off time after time, for the logistic of such operation just seems too much :

Me and  RobinGoodfellow have raided this store together  - mine just had much more complicated way to go ...

There are 6 statues in the 'Oldies' serie. ( for the complete list, try THIS pdf ).
I personally, like only those two.

I think we got the last retailed-available 1920's T-Rex - but, maybe I'm wrong -
If you want one, a good place to strart looking is among all Distributers.

Favorite desktop models Oldies Iguanodon and Tyrannosaurus :

The Favorite 'Charles c knight tribute' T-rex ( last picture on my previous post )
and Neave Parker's Iguanodon - seeing here below, from another interesting article.

Some words from the Sculpter (Kazunari Araki) about both statues.
and a comprehansive Book regarding miss calculations along history.

Now, they stopped talking to each other : ...

Shonisaurus

Those figures of Favorite did not know that they existed are very good I have in my case almost all the Desktop Model figures of Favorite except the tyrannosaurus and brachiosaurus and I can affirm that when I bought those figures in 2005 they were very cheap taking into account that they are figures of resin and a perfect finish.

Those "retro" dinosaurs of Favorite are spectacular. They are masterpieces. Thank you BrotoScorpio for the link to that catalog with those figures.

Roselaar

I so love those Favorite retrosaurs! They looked like they just stepped off the set of a Harryhausen movie. :)

PhilSauria

Great to see those Favorite Oldies, and that DinoLand Triceratops is a beauty alright! - I'd love to add one of those to my collection. After Sauropods I do like a good Triceratops. My tally is 27 at last count.

Roselaar,
When thinking of it, they do look like figures from Harryhausen movies.
Makes you think about why to bother now remaking a model proved to be wrong, in first place -
I guess it's a good tribute to past scientists.

PhilSauria,
Good luck with that - you'll find this trike is much harder to find than the much discussed Battat Trike.

Some small, insignificant things to share these last days :

1. These actually surprised me with their quality.
I kind of regreted once I bought them, but when I opened the package I was in a surprise for the best :
The sculpt, the material and the paintings are much better quality than I thought they would be -
They Kind of remind me the DIORAMASAURUS or  the Furuta Dinosaurs in style and colouring.

Although it is not the COMPLETE 2 SERIES - the Lot I have is still note worthy :

Retro-Classic Coca-cola Bottle cap Dinosaurs 2002 ( Kaiyodo ) :

2. It realy feels  like a bit shame to take those out of their packages.
They are smaller than their Vinyl counterparts and bigger than the Sunrise playmates version.
The material is better and the price is accordingly -

Sega Toys Dinosaur king Action figures :

3. Having failed to aquire a figure or two from this line -
I consolated myself with these lovely refrigerator magnets ( still in their Nylon cases ... ) -

'The Dawn of the Dinosaurs' Exhibition accessories :

Shonisaurus

I congratulate you on your new acquisitions BrontoScorpio. Sega action dinosaurs are very good figures. There I see represented the lambeosaurus appear rare in the market of collecting both resin and toys.

They're such a merry gathering -
Tiny figures named 'Kitadaniryu' :

Furuta Choco-egg series 4 Secret SP1,SP2,SP3 and ChocoQ series 6 Secret SP4 -
All together a gang of 4 Dromaeosaurs :

Mini Minmi

Haha it looks like they're dancing. They're really neat, congrats!

Megalosaurus

Sobreviviendo a la extinción!!!

BrontoScorpio

Thank you both for your supporting comments

Shonisaurus

The set of dromeosaurs so uniform although they are painted in four ways remind me of an army of clones. They are fantastic figures.

This guy has been at the top of my wish-list for a very long time.Finaly I can cross this one out :
Dino Kingdom 2012 Exhibition Feathered Tyrannosaurus rex by Kinto/Favorite limited figure :

The figure is after the Model shown on that event. Here's a quick video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulw3WVWqog8

And, I think, Is by far the best Desktop model favorite has ever done :
The posture, the colouring, the sculpt - all are outsdanding.
Again, as of all exhibition limited figures - this one also is surprisingly small -
to fit as a small souvenire on your desktop. To show you how small -

compare it with some much more common T-rexes out there -

Dinostoreus :

And the Papo :

This figure allready has a comprehensive review at the Dinosaur toy blog you might want to read.
The Cataloge for that Exhibition is outstanding - Here's couple of sample pages :

And also another booklet was issued for that event :

This last picture from the magazine reminded me that Takara-Tomy also issued a couple of figures for that event -
so, Here's the two Feathered T-rexes in comparison:

The Takara-Tomy also has a review on the Dinosaur Toy Blog - And is also still available on Clawmark Toys and on ebay.

As for the Favorite rex - it's not available anymore on Clawmarks - but has a nice review there still.

It recently became available on eBay through MNHK.

But, Regarding buying from this perticular seller - I would normaly not recommand it - as prices there tends to be several times higher than other sellers.
As for buying from him this perticular figure - I admit never saw one goes for less than 200$ the last two years.
The MNHK version is a remake version -

- The box is different than the box used for the exhibition limited,
- the wood is bigger
- and the paintjob is much darker and less colourfull.

And,a 3rd luxurious booklet issued for that event  :
