This rare Jem was dropped on my desk last week :

The "Allosaurus Attack" ( 2 Allosaurs attacking a Diplodocus ) -
From Favorite\Kinto retired line of "scene models".

Contrary to almost all Favorite\Kinto Resin models - this one is not mounted on a desktop wooden plate -
but rather embedded into a Clay surface.

The vicious looking Allosaurs are surprisingly vividly coloured, yet, again, in cotrast to most other models -
They are attacking the poor Diplodocus from both sides - leaving bloody gash wonds clearly visible on both sides.

I would not be surprised if it turned out that the Allosaurus&Camarasaurus statue by Sideshow, made few years later, was influenced by this scene mode.

The other Favorite\Kinto Resin scene model that is NOT mounted on top of a wooden plate is , of course, the more common "T-rex fight over a carcass" -
Which I had for some time.

Here are the two for comparison :

With this I complete my search for those items I wanted from the retired scene model lines - all depicted in here :

People may recall there are some other such "scene" models -
They are right of course - There is the new "scene models" line :

A more complete review you could see on RobinGoodfellow excellent review of Favorite Desktop Model line: A Compendium.
His images are clearly much better quality than mine.

Some reviews, regarding this specific model, written by creators "studio-corvo" - you could find here :

- Favorite collection "Scene Model" - scroll down  to 2006年10月14日

- The making process - scroll down to 2006年6月15日

This is not even a real animal, and also, needless to say, not in accordance with my own rules -
But, I got an unfortunate  "too many shelves, Not enough Dinosaurs !" situation ...
So, There you go :

Finally I get to complete my 'Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum' set of Favorite desktop models by Kazunari Araki ( A review by the artist ) -
with the introduction of this new arrival  - Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis :

I admit having looked for it for a long time, ever since layed my eyes on it through postsaurischian post on the Kinto Resin Desktop Dinosaur Models thread.
Now my Fukui museum desktop set is complete  - along with the Tarbosaurus bataar and Fukuiraptor kitadaniensis  :

Sadly, it needed over 300$ plus various fees to complete the set.
I reckon this is the price you pay for having joined the party way too late ...
I bet this is how it looked like durring the heydays :

I think this pretty much also concludes the list of Mamenchisaurs available out there -
Is there anyone I missed ? :

Roselaar

Excellent Mamenchisaurus! All of them in fact. :)

The only one I can think of missing is the baby Mamenchisaurus by PNSO, but you can skip that one.

Takama

Also the Mamenchisaurus from Geoworld

But you can skip that one as well

Well , there's no escape from the Chinese revolution going on -
those new studios seem to pop up every where now.
I see what you mean :DINO-SOAR Studio
But, it's a  78cm 596$ Resin model - so not in the same class ... :)

In contrast to those massive Resin statues we discussed, my next arrival is a tiny Jem :
I have been looking for ages for this litle guy, which, in my opinion, is one of the best scenes by Favorite :
Favorite "Tyrannosaurus & Edmontosaurus" FD501 scene model :

As always, I will not write a lengthy description of the item :
I do believe in the phrase "one picture worth a thousand words" -
so, you could see it for yourself : It's a very lively, colourful and tantalising piece of work :

I was surprised how small it is - a fact that, for my opinion, makes it even more charming.

Here, long side the Only big modern Scene model "Tyrannosaurus & Triceratops" FDF-201 :

Along with the Big one - there are 3 Favorite small scene models :

- "Tyrannosaurus & Edmontosaurus" FD501
- "The Life of Brachiosaurus" FD502
- "The Duel of Triceratops" FD503

However, I find the other two much less appealing - as those scenes look dull and poor quality.
Unfortunately, It seemed that every where I looked the item is discontinued -
what I don't understand, since the other two are still there :

- Favorite shop
- Favorite on Yahoo
I wonder if the reason is from the high demand for this particular sculpt, or, that Favorite had discontinued this one earlier than the other two.
Anybody knows the answer for that ?

Well, now I am almost done with Favorite Discontinued models.

If anyone wants to get a hold on this one - the answer lies outside Japan among Favorite distributers :
- At Dinosaurtime UK - However, I would urge caution - since some of the pictures are of the bigger statue and this shop is notorious for mixing up between items.
Good luck receiving an answer from them about which of the statues they actually sell.

- At Black Hills Institute - However, if you are outside the US, pay attention you could be ending up paying about 250$ for item+shipping+custom+taxes -
so, I would advise caution in this case too.

postsaurischian

The Fukui Mamenchisaurus is a nice catch. Not easy to get. Congratulations :) !
USD $300 for the complete trio isn't that bad. It could be worse.
How I miss the days when the Fukui museum used to ship within Japan. That's how I got mine in the past.
That was so much easier and cheaper. Sadly they stopped doing so a few years ago :( .

Yes this is this one. I am really happy because I just found one copy in China and it will be ship to me at the end of this month. I was looking for this model for more than one year.

Well, it will not help now even if they did - the item is all but gone ...
Although - I noticed one is available on Taobao - even though I suspect it's a remake by favorite -
i.e. not the original museum box, etc.  - MNHK usually gets a hold of those things :

Got this rare thing from the souvenir shop at the Tokyo Museum of Natural history -

A Metal Maiasaura :

As I understand it - It belong to a set of Metal figures used to be sold there before the 'Study room' and the 'Capsule' figures came to be -

Somethink like back in the 80's :

It is made of partially hollow kind of metal - which makes it quite heavy for a figure that size :

Some of the figures in the set are really old and outdates caption of Dinosaur restoration -
and, as science evolved - so too the newer member of the set did.

Some other closeups from the set :
- Tyrannosaurus
- Iguanodon
- Diplocaulus
- Maiasaura ( like mine ).

postsaurischian

:) Cool Tokyo Museum retro metal figures! I have the upright version of the Iguanodon.
The "Tyrannosaurus" is supposed to be a Tarbosaurus.
Until today I only knew about these two, which were the only ones available when a friend of mine visited the museum.
       Thanks for the info!

Libraraptor

Those Metal figures are very interesting.  How much are they?

BrontoScorpio

Yes, it is a Tarbosaurus indeed.

I don't know how much they cost at the museum shop - but I doubt it if any of them are still available there -

I found mine on a Japanese online flea-market.

Maybe we could ask Brent to have his source look at the museum shop ...
