Reeves is a model horse company...horses are really so spectacularly popular that it doesn't make sense for Reeves to give CollectA's entire line room in their distribution pipeline.

I feel inclined to add that one of Reeve's lines (Breyer) is pretty much the whole reason that horse collecting became a thing (and the reason why horse collectors are a much larger community than collectors of other animals will ever be.).

There is that. Reeves has bought up most of the independent Horse companies--and getting an in with CollectA was a big movie for them.

We forget that CollectA has two notable lines--their Prehistoric, and their Horses. We just assume that the prehistoric is more important...but honestly, we are heavily outnumbered by people that will buy every special edition and paint reissue of favored models...

My museum gift shop stocks collecta. I wonder how long that can keep up.

I don't understand this obsession with horse collecting. They're all the same species. It would be like only collecting Triceratops Horidus figures.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Some people do things like that with their dinos...!

Does the museum stock new models? Like recent releases? Because there are likely distributors with older stock that still move it--and even Reeves has a relatively small number of the models. Just none of the newest ones from the last couple years.

While I'm not a fan of horses by any means, I can understand how there is still appeal in having multiple figures of a given species, especially one with varied morphology. If for example instead of horses it was domestic pigeon types I would be buying a lot of them.

While I don't get obsessive collecting of horses either, there are plenty of folks here who only focus on one genera/species (most commonly T. rex).

And domestic dogs are all the same species as well, yet look how many enthusiasts there are in the world. I reckon I'd you shared that sentiment in a horse breeding forum, you'd be bombarded from all sides! ;)

well that sucks, especially since I also collected their wild extant animals too.

The CollectA Deluxe Dimorphodon + Styracosaurus are two models that I've been meaning to pick up, so I guess now is a good time to get on that :/

Tip for anyone in the states who's also been dragging their feet on these models... there's a local dinosaur park here that carries them, and they are extremely affordable on their web store:
http://thedinosaurpark.com/collectadeluxe.html

The Dimorphodon is only $25 + shipping. Just placed my order for both models, and total shipping was only $10, so not bad.

@Paintingdinos Thanks so much for the tip! Though it does seem like they are out of stock on a lot of models.

Yeah, their inventory fluctuates quite a bit. They're a pretty small operation (just a small gift shop attached to the larger outdoor park), so I don't imagine they keep a lot of stock.

But, they seem to be very reasonable on what they do have!

Yeah sadly that's a bit too much for me to justify getting them from there (I'm in PA). I have to wonder how Everything Dinosaur is in comparison for the shipping rates? Of course it will be a while before I plan on ordering either of the ones I want, assuming I can afford too now.

Not to beat  a dead horse but I don't understand?  We are only  a few states away, my brother works in Philly.  Dejankins, Dan's Dinosaurs, ect.. all charged  a similar shipping cost when they carried them? USPS for a Priority box is about 12.00 for those figures you mentioned.  The only way it would be cheaper would be to find them at retail and I've never seen CollecA in a store here locally.  :/

Ah never mind. I thought shipping was much more. I just added the Dunkleosteus to cart on Minizoo and played with the estimate and yeah $12 isn't far off from what I probably would have had to pay from DeJankins if I had the chance to get it there, in terms of shipping. I was thinking it was like close to $18. Which while I could afford that + the price of the figure, it would just feel like a waste to spend that much on shipping, but of course I was incorrect there. Now considering I never ordered from a site oversea's before, do I have much to worry about with the customs process? I guess this means I can order the Dunkleosteus and Iguanodon later this year after all then, once I'm done with spending on the JW:FK stuff.

I would buy it from Dejankins has a great variety of Collecta or Dans dinosaurs. Both are great sellers expose your case before making a purchase.

But it is a pity that in the USA they are reluctant to sell dinosaurs and prehistoric animals from Collecta, as it is also a pity that in Europe, prehistoric toy animals, such as the Safari brand, are not commercialized on many occasions in general. retail stores (I do not mean online stores in Europe) or that the dinosaurs of the great Battat company have never been commercialized in retail stores at least in my nation.  :(

Jose S.M.

Dejankins is not going to be selling them either, I don't think Dan's dinosaurs either,  from what I understand they won't send shipments to any stores, only to the Reeves people, who will distribute them, and they are going to do so with less than half of the collection.

I just wanted to make sure you weren't missing out.  I never had an issue with customs from Australia is all I can tell you.  Shipping I think if you add smaller figures to your order, should you want any, the price doesn't change if you already have something the size of the Dunk and Iguanodon.  I shipped the Iguanodon, Basilosaurus, Scrurimimus, Mantellisaurus, Mapusaurus and Torvosaurus for  about 17-18.00 only when I added bigger figures did the price increase a 1.00 or 2 .  Spread it out over the figures and it's only around 3.00 marked up to cover shipping and you don't pay tax.  Pretty good deal.

It's really unfortunate that Reeves is being a pain ! Who ever negotiated that COllectA contract with them should be fired :D I hope it's not a long contract. Who would have thought that finding a US distributor would be such a difficult and problematic thing?
Thanks goodness it's just the US distribution rights that Reeves has control of.

John

I've been ordering what I want from MiniZoo and Everything Dinosaur for the past 3 or 4 years anyway because U.S. distribution for CollectA had always been poor at best anyway so I can't really tell the difference now! :)
Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

@Faelrin: The US does not impose customs duties on incoming packages with a dollar value of less than $800, and even over that amount it may be exempt for a variety of reasons. I'm not sure why other countries are so keen on customs fees, but for whatever reason we in the US are lucky in that respect.

This made my jaw drop!  You are extremely lucky in this at least.

Well as long as I don't have to worry about the whole customs thing then, I'll try to order these later in this year (when I have the money).

You're really lucky. In Hungary I have to pay 27% VAT if the order's prices succeds 22 euros (including shipping prices). It's total robbery. At least the tax office didn't bother my private packages or orders from within the European Union.
