I think it works well too. (And good choice of book under the base!)

I started to repaint (my repaint of) the Safari Carnegie Spinosaurus, because I did not like my previous - in my view - all too "cartoonish" (contrasty) black, white and red scheme. I used yellow olive, light brown (underside), light grey and yellow ochre. I might change and touch up here and there.

SidB

That's a wonderful piece of paint-work. You'll know the look that you want, but IMO this is a striking piece that you've accomplished with your repaint.

Nice repainting, that repainting especially with white and brown tones gives it a feeling of elegance but with some quite striking repainting details in this case you have achieved that they are neither too conservative nor too bright, that is, they do not have totally muted colors or colors excessively garish, you have achieved the middle term and that figure has been fabled. My sincere congratulations. If Safari removed that figure with that new repaint, it would earn a lot when it comes to selling that reissued figure.

Halichoeres

That's a great paint job, on maybe the nicest naked Velociraptor figure that was ever made.

Thank you very much indeed for your compliment and your analysis. I am happy with the result myself. I think the figure comes alive much more now. (I had the brown version.)

Thank you, and yes, I also think this is possibly the nicest featherless Velociraptor toy model ever made. I had the dark brown version, but the color didn't do it for me. Now, it looks more alive, IMHO.

Next, I will post pictures of my repaint of the 1999 Carnegie Safari Triceratops..

I am applying a new paint app on this 1999 Triceratops model from Safari (Carnegie), but it is not quite what I like yet. I guess the patterns on the body are a bit too repetitive from front to back. Maybe for variation sake I should give the torso a more uniform color, so that only the hind quarters are striped/dappled. Also the head could use a bit more detailing/refinement, I think.

I started to repaint my 2001 McVey T. rex. A work in progress. Any advice/criticisms? (Not about the awfully garish attempt at a Bob Ross-like seascape - that is there just because it was handy as a background.)

The latest changes to the paint app of the Safari Triceratops.

Stegotyranno420

You sir are very underrated and amazing

Bokisaurus

Very nice work and the second version of the trike worked out better with the larger white patch.
The tyrannosaurus looks beautiful and really lovely design.
I would suggest perhaps adding some of the darker patterns on the head to bring it all together.
Great job, are you using airbrush?

avatar_JohannesB @Archosaur if you dont mind, can i use your triceratops colors for my art?

Thank you for the compliments. And thank you for the advice about the head. It was what I was thinking about as well. (At first I had the head colored red, but it felt weird in combination with what the rest of the figure looks like now.) Yes, I am using airbrush. Airbrush is fine for creating those subtler gradients, which give a sense of subcutaneous pigmentation, I think. I am hesitant to use brushes for sharper lines, because I would need to be very sure about what I want and where I want it. Possibly, the head would be a good place to create sharper delineations between patches of color. I dunno, I'll try and experiment a bit.

Wow, that Triceratops looks so much better!
