At this point I would also like to ask again what you want for the site?
Two major features are planned, but maybe there are things on your part that the website could benefit from.

avatar_DinoToyCollector @DinoToyCollector , One thing I have noticed is if you do a search by animal name, and then you try to do a sort, the page returns blank.  I'm not sure if the page is unable to do a sort from the search results, or if it is a problem with my browser settings.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Your new functions are great, thankyou for continuing to update the site. It is a lovely resource
Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Archaeopteryx, Cetiosaurus, Compsognathus, Hadrosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Stenonychosaurus, Deinonychus, Maiasaura, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Argentinosaurus, Sinosauropteryx, Microraptor, Citipati, Mei, Tianyulong, Kulindadromeus, Zhenyuanlong, Yutyrannus, Borealopelta, Caihong

avatar_Martwad @Martwad Thank you I am going to investigate this.

And it continues with updates: Since I have planned two further big features for the future, I had to restructure the landing page a bit. It's now more of a dashboard with a lot of things at a glance. The news are now available on an additional page (the landing page). I hope you enjoy it.

Then I allowed myself to show the last comments so that you can see them more quickly and react to them.

I rechecked it, and I only get the blank screen when sorting by rating after getting the results of a species search from the search bar.  If I select the species bubble from one of the results, and then sort, it is fine.

Thank you for updating the Mattel section to include the new Savage Strike figures.

I did notice the Stygimoloch was added twice though:

Also the Savage Strike green Velociraptor has been confirmed to be Charlie a while back. Could this be updated?

Thank you, I now found the issue. Will be fixing this soon. There is a major change to the search engine right now, so I'll have to wait before it can be done.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin
I go and check this. With all the available pictures we have I can work much better now. It is hard for me to follow these Mattels, as I am personally not into them  :-X You don't wanna join the the Database Team for editing the Mattels?  O:-)

avatar_DinoToyCollector @DinoToyCollector Sure, that would be cool. How does one go about doing that though?

That reminds me, that once my Savage Strike Charlie arrives from Entertainment Earth, I gotta get a pic of it, and some of the humans (Zia, and Claire) I never got around to getting images of for the site.

The search function has been re-worked and updated. You will now have to directly click things you are searching for ;-)

I hope this simplifies some things for everyone.

Great work and thank you very much for your help avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin :)

I did a quick update today. On the Browse page you can now search for the items of your favorite Sculptor. I started with a post for the top items made by avatar_Doug Watson @Doug Watson  ;)

Faelrin

#292
avatar_DinoToyCollector @DinoToyCollector While I was fixing up some of the scales, I also corrected some of the sculpts that Doug did, that were not yet attributed to him. Thank you for adding this feature by the way.

Perhaps if you want I could add in some more sculptors for Papo, BotM, and Battat (since I'm mostly familiar with those brands as well).

Edit: By the way, in the case of the scales that were stated by the sculptor do I also put that into exact scale? I noticed many figures did not have anything there for that. In the case of something that's like 1:14 scale (such as the 2020 Safari Ltd Deinonychus) or 1:16 scale (such as the 2020 Safari Ltd Ichthyosaurus), but could possibly also work in the more used 1:15 scale for example would it be better for the scale to be set or left at 1:15 and then exact scale to be set at 1:14 or 1:16 (such as with the Deinonychus and Icthyosaurus)?

What do you think? Should the "Chinasaurs" also be included in our database? I thought of them as an individual "Company" without all the colour variants etc.

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=637021683823831

Crackington

Hmm, not sure about this as they are clearly from different companies and as a recent thread discussed, the use of  the term "Chinasaur" is controversial and can be seen as derogatory and racist. I must admit I'm tending to agree with that view the more I consider this.

How about just creating a "miscellaneous" category which any unbranded figure could go in, regardless of country of origin?

This could even be fun and interactive with members invited to try and identify them, thus turning this into a positive thing.

Crackington

Thinking about it a bit more, just call it  "Non-branded" or "Unbranded"?

DinoToyCollector

avatar_Crackington @Crackington
"Chinasaur" is actually a difficult term, which is why I like to use it in quotes. Of course, it is not my intention to insult anyone, if someone feels attacked, I would definitely like to apologize for it. The fact is that pretty much over 90% of our beloved toys are made in China and the factories only process the orders. The fact that there are extremely talented artists and exciting sculpts from China proves that the term is no longer up to date. Could you link the thread to me? I haven't read it.

I like your idea of having the figures collected under "Unidentified" (or your suggestions), where everyone cantalk about these figures. Maybe even with the feature of uploading your own figures. That should be fairly easy to do.

At the moment I am preparing another major feature that leads to more interactivity. However, the layout and handling are not yet final, which delays the whole thing.

Loon

I like the idea of uploading our own figures, as there are quite a few I own that I'd like to see in the database.

Also, I agree with avatar_Crackington @Crackington that the Chinasaurs term might be problematic. I always thought "Cheaposaurs" would suit them better, as most of the figures we enjoy come from China. The only issue would be categorizing them, as so many of them have been copied into oblivion.

Crackington

Just to confirm that I think it's a great idea to have a section on unknown/unbranded figures. I have one or two I could add photos of that might be interesting.

You certainly do not need to apologise for anything with your suggestion for a section on these unknown models, Stefan, it is hard to come up with an alternative term to describe them.

However, sorry Loon, I'm not sure if "cheaposaur" quite captures it though, as some can be quite costly!

The recent thread on Chinasaurs is here:
http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=8735.msg259490#msg259490

I thought this was a very thoughtful thread and reflective with some excellent posts. It seems the term was not meant in a derogatory way originally, referring just to those models labelled with "China" and no brand.

However, in the context of today, "Chinasaur" has become more of a loaded term and can be seen, or even used in a racist way. With the brutal murder of George Floyd shocking the world into thinking more deeply about racism, l guess we all need to think about  how language is used/mis-used and perceived. Letting the term "Chinasaur" go could be a small step we in the Forum can take to help with this.

Loon

avatar_Crackington @Crackington I see what you mean. I just usually conflate the term with the stuff you find in bags at the dollar tree. But, I like the unbranded idea.
