CollectA Edaphosaurus is great and deserves it.

And the new Schleich Spinosaurus deserves it, too.
Maybe this award could give Schleich new balls to do striking figures and less sloppy, lovelessly sculpted ones.

The Eofauna Giganotosaurus is the only 2019 figure I own so far, but if it can garner enough deserved attention from PT readers, I'm sure it has a chance.
The Safari ltd Allosaurus and Stegosaurus seem like strong contenders, both due to their popularity as genera and due to Safari's familiarity as a brand. I imagine the Collecta Baryonyx will turn at least a few heads as well.

Of course, doesn't PT typically have TWO awards - one for dinosaurs and one for prehistoric animals?

suspsy

Yes, they started a second category for non-dinosaurs. The Safari T. rex and the CollectA Dimorphodon each won for 2017.

What about 2018? No news about what figure they chose the best for 2018, right?

This also asked me. I was going to start a thread about this by asking which was the best dinosaur figure and which was the best prehistoric animal figure not dinosaur in 2018 according to the Prehistoric Times.

In fact there is still no thread to vote for the best dinosaur figures 2018.

Probably in the spring issue.

More readers should vote, total votes are always low. I know Papo came close a few times. There are two awards best dinosaur and best non dinosaur.  Elasmotherium,  Edaphosaurus or  Caiuajara would be contenders.  Then the Safari Prestosuchus. Mojo dunkleosteus or tropeognathus.

I saw the Schleich Spino, Safari is better. The Animantarx is interesting.

I always consider several things
Originality, accuracy, quality of production and painting

and I vote every year
You can never have too many dinosaurs

Of this short list I'd go with the Edaphosaurus, but PNSO's really knocking it out of the park this year.
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

Shonisaurus

For example, ophthalmosaurus and the PNSO mosasaurus among non-dinosaur animals are figures to be taken into account.

It is also necessary to take into account the PNSO ceratosaurus is a spectacular figure among the best dinosaurs of 2019 although it is also necessary to affirm that the PNSO amargasaurus is the best of its kind but not one of the best of this year for the simple reason that They spoiled the figure a little with that nail paint on the front hooves, that's not scientific.

Concavenator

If I were to choose the top 5 best figures for this year, I would choose (not in order)

1) Eofauna Giganotosaurus
2) Papo Spinosaurus
3) CollectA Edaphosaurus
4) Safari Camarasaurus
5)Safari Pteranodon

To be honest, this year has far exceeded my expectations, I don't remember any year so far that has been so strong as 2019 (and the year has started not so long ago, there might be even more figures). Not even 2012, or 2015 ( that I remember as some of the best years) didn't have so many great figures. And this having in mind that now the Carnegie Collection and Battat Terra lines are extinct.I can't imagine what this year would have been if those two magnificent lines were still running.

That aside, there hasn't been any award so far as to what has been regarded as the best figure of 2018 , has it? Perhaps the PT magazine just doesn't do this anymore  ???

I don't subscribe to PT anymore so I don't know, although I found some old copies when I moved house recently.

I've re-subscribed recently and got the new issue the other day.

The 2019 winners are as follows (in best Oscars voice):

Best dinosaur figure - Camarasaurus (Wild Safari)

Best prehistoric animal figure (non-dino) -Edaphosaurus (Collecta)

Best model kit - "Stan" T-Rex bust (Fabio Pastori)

Best prehistoric animal book - Extreme Dinosaurs 2: The Projects (Luis Rey)

Best prehistoric animal discovery - Bajadasaurus

I finally have one of the winners, thumbs up for the Edaphosaurus!

Thanks for sharing! Justified winners I think.

The Safari Camarasaurus is a great toy, but I'm surprised it beat out the Stegosaurus.

The CollectA Edaphosaurus absolutely deserved to win. Wonderful toy.

I'm very interested to know how the Eofauna figures fared in the first two categories ( assuming #2 includes Cenozoic mammals).

Crackington

I'm afraid that PT only lists the winners, we can't see who were the runners up, or what else readers voted for.

postsaurischian

PT  (and DT) and I will never come together. "America first", I know, it's so boring.
Best prehistoric animal discovery? Sorry, to me this is a totally useless category.

QuoteI'm very interested to know how the Eofauna figures fared in the first two categories ( assuming #2 includes Cenozoic mammals).

I'm not subscribed to PT either, so I can't know for sure, but I think that Eofauna and PNSO didn't participate. Otherwise, the Eofauna Giganotosaurus or Atlasaurus would have been awarded the best dinosaur figure of 2019, and the Deinotherium the best prehistoric (non-dinosaur) animal figure as well. Or PNSO would have had great options with their brilliant Ankylosaurus. I don't know why Eofauna or PNSO wouldn't be included. I understand that PNSO's museum line is not included since they are way pricier than your regular Safari or CollectA figure, but what about the mid-size range? The one that includes Sede, Duke the Spinops, the Eurhinosaurus... And Eofauna's figures do have a very sensible price too, so I don't see why they are not included.

Anyways, though, if we take Eofauna and PNSO out of the question, then I would agree that the Safari Camarasaurus is a fair winner (although the CollectA Carnotaurus is gorgeous as well). The Camarasaurus is accurate, has a natural colour scheme, nice detail and an interesting pose.

And the CollectA Edaphosaurus is a totally deserved winner, it's just a masterpiece of an unique creature.

It's the 7th year in a row that Safari has won this prize  :P And I'm 99% sure that the Safari Deinonychus will be awarded next year as well.

Anyways, kudos to Safari (and Doug Watson) and CollectA for the win!

Crackington

I think readers can suggest/vote for anything, so it's not a question of particular companies taking part or not.,.

Predominance of Safari down the years probably reflects it's availability in the US , where most of PT readers are based. Are PNSO figures as easy to get there?

Also, Doug Watson is amazing, so not surprised that he keeps winning (congrats to him!)
