Prehistoric Times magazine award for Best Figure of 2019?

For the umpteenth time, Doug Watson has won with the Camarasaurus. Sincerely, he has been the fair winner, although there were other great figures of Safari 2019, the allosaurus or the stegosaurus could also have been just winners.

I'm glad for Collecta since the edaphosaurus is the best that has been made by a toy brand and is honestly the edaphosaurus that I always have in my collection.

That said other brands deserve to have the award on equal terms, such as Eofauna, PNSO or Papo his spinosaurus is a quite outstanding figure.

The Edaphosaurus definitely deserved it, absolutely stunning model.
To me the Camarasaurus is a great choice too. It is by far one of my favourite sauropod models, it looks so natural and is a good size, with a lovely paint job. One of the highlights of the 2019 line for me.

What I value of the edaphosaurus is its classic style, based on the usual paleoartistic representations and that fortunately has no articulated body part and the material is not rigid. These are aspects that I greatly appreciate this synapse.

I'm not completely satisfied with the Safari Camarasaurus as a winner, though. It's a really great figure, but in my opinion the Eofauna Atlasaurus is far superior; for me it's one of the best dinosaur figures ever.

But Eofauna's Atlasaurus got released in December. The voting started probably months ago when maybe the figure wasn't even revealed. This year it will surely win the prize.

I've got both of these sauropods and can confirm that the Eofauna is somewhat superior with its fabulous level of detail. However it's aimed at a collector's market, evidenced by it's very delicate front claws, true to scale. These would never stand up to rough play. The Safari is beautifully made and, moreover, quite rugged. No doubt that if the specs had called for an Eofauna level of precision, priced accordingly, Doug Watson could/would have delivered this level of detail. Different market, at least in part.

I'm a longtime PT subscriber and still don't know where or how to vote in these. That being said, I would have voted for the camarasaurus anyway. It's a great sculpt and the paintwork and color scheme feel better than that of the other dinosaurs last year.

What you say is interesting. The price of Eofauna figures is pretty much the same as those of the more expensive Safari figures, so based on price alone, it could be said that they're aimed at the same market. But the figures themselves are different, the Safari ones are clearly toys, while the Eofauna ones aren't, they are a lot more delicate.

But, as @Crackington said, the prize category is: best dinosaur figure.

By figure, I understand  that it doesn't necessarily have to be a toy. And most probably the readers of PT magazine are adult collectors just like us, that collect dinosaur figures, toys or not. If the prize category was "the best dinosaur toy of 2019", then sure, I would have also removed Eofauna's figures and also the CollectA Deluxe theropods on bases, and would have voted for the Camarasaurus as well (in my opinion, it's the best dinosaur model Safari released last year). But, since the term itself is as vague as "figures", I don't see why Eofauna or PNSO wouldn't be two options.

That being said though, and like I previously said. even though I'm not sure the Camarasaurus was the absolute best of 2019 (though still one of the bests, imo), I still think it's a worthy winner.

No question of the Camarasaurus' worth. Visually and in hand it's splendid. I see that it's neck and neck between it and the Atlasaurus in the "race" for the best figure of 2019 on our DTF thread.
