The Unique Species Specimen Discussion Thread

Sweet, thanks! More in a few weeks...

Ruyangosaurus will be unique to the best of my knowledge. Shastasaurus was made by Sonokong in 2019, but it wasn't on the list because it came in multiple styles/sizes. It looked more like a mosasaur than an ichthyosaur, though.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Good to know, thx!

Do you consider Signatustudio figures for this list? If so, I think the Titanochelon I reviewed for the Blog is unique (as probably is some of Miguel's other figures)

Kaiyodo's Australopithecus boisei is now in the genus Paranthropus, so that might be unique now, too

Halichoeres

I think if PaleoCreatures is on the list, Signatus has a place.

As for Paranthropus, I think Roselaar usually goes by manufacturer's assigned name even when taxonomy changes. For name changes, well, there's always my list  ;)

I've never heard of Signatus, do you have a link to a quick overview of their available figures?

Like Halichoeres says, I go for the original name the manufacturer put on it, even if it in hindsight turns out to be inaccurate. Keeeps me from having to follow such changes in name and getting confused.  ;D

Added Signatus' Aceratherium, Decennatherium, Eucladoceros and Titanochelon.

Deleted Paleo-Creatures' Tetralophodon.

Paleo-Creatures has made both the Aceratherium and Decennatherium FYI

Exit Zuul. Blame Kaiyodo. ;)

Also say goodbye to Linheraptor, now that BotM has made a minifigure of it too.

Funk

Isn't the Imperial Podokesaurus the only one of that genus?

From this thread (I have one, but drew clothes on it as a child...): https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3390.440

Duna

Dinowaurs Survival has also:

- Diceratops
- Dorygnatus
- Aucasaurus

I remember this one being on the list up until a while back ago. I don't remember which other Podokesaurus replaced it, but you could probably dig it up in this thread... somewhere...

Interesting! Would you happen to have pictures of these available, or know where I can easily find them? :)

Quote from: indohyus on February 04, 2018, 09:18:15 PMJust out of curiosity, are shapeway figures ok to review? Eyeing up that Sivatherium

I'm having a hard time with Shapeways... Keeping track of regularly released figures is already a challenge, but adding Shapeways to that is just too daunting for me. I feel like it's kinda beyond regular (semi)mass proudction and therefore not very applicable to the purpose of this list. But it's grey territory, I'm quite aware.

Quote from: Loon on February 10, 2020, 07:53:18 PMDakotaraptor and Dorudon have also been made by Paleo-Creatures

Both have been done before by at least two companies. They were on the list, but got removed. Dakotaraptor was done for Dinosaurs in the Wild for one, don't remember who made Dorudon.

A Podokesaurus search only really gives this by
Halichoeres , which indicates it's the only such toy: https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=84.msg247080#msg247080

Hhmm, I'm sure Podokesaurus had been debunked, but perhaps I was wrong. I'll add it back to the list, thx!

Halichoeres

I might be able to help out a bit here.

As far as I know the Imperial Podokesaurus is unique.

The only other Dorygnathus I'm aware of is a skull molded in pewter by Michael Holland. I'm not sure if you'd want to count that, but if not then the Dinowaurs version is the only one.

Aucasaurus was made by DeAgostini, although it is obviously a repainted Carnotaurus: https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3390.msg251095#msg251095
Perhaps more compelling is this model kit: https://stores.dansdinosaurs.com/aucasaurus-resin-kit-by-rader/

Diceratops was made by Xidi/Happy Kin as well: https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3390.msg175829#msg175829

Kabaya has recently made the following:
Callichimaera
Mecochirus
Menaspis
Mortoniceras
Sharovipteryx
Sichuanobelus
https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3390.msg341581#msg341581
Although Rheic also has a Callichimaera kit (https://www.ebay.com/itm/255446837468), so that one might be out as soon as it's in.

Thanks for the detailed and helpful post! :)

I'll skip on Aucasaurus and Diceratops, but I'd love to add Dorygnathus to the list, if someone has a good picture available.

Podokesaurus is here to stay.

I'm not so sure what to do with the Kabaya figures... they're so vastly different from the other figures on the list, being obvious building figs. They just feel so out of place (highly stylized, monochrome and with odd plastic bits sticking out of their bodies), despite being otherwise eligible on all accounts. When I started the USL I never imagined building figures like these would ever be made of obscure species like these! I think for now I'll set a boundary and refrain from adding them. :-[

Will this do for a photo?

And totally understandable on the Kabayas, they are a real edge case. I would probably have skipped them myself if it weren't for the Menaspis.

Yup, that'll work, thank you! :)

Also, Harpactognathus? That's gotta be a USL addition for sure, right?
