In my case it worked for the first few times, about 5 or 6 times. But never again since then.

Well, I'm baffled (According to the press, scientists are never confused or confounded, they are always 'baffled'). The PM email notification is working for my admin account, and for my regular test account. My email hosts are gmail and hotmail. I noticed the three users encountering issues all have relatively obscure email hosts, and I wonder if this is part of the reason, but then it was working for you all before. I don't know.  :-\

Is there anyone else apart from me who actually is still receiving PM email notifications? It might help to resolve the problem to compare and contrast user settings.  C:-)

Hmm, my e-mail notifications seem to be working just fine. I'm also using Gmail.

I'm still receiving email notifications for private messages fine, but curiously enough, some notifications for thread updates seem to keep going astray.

brontodocus

I've found that I've actually received two notifications instead of one, the second one was strangely a reply to a reply to a reply (with no notification for preceding PMs on that topic) and I've received 30 PMs so far. It's true that our university's computer centre where my email account is hosted sometimes blocks emails from senders they don't consider trustworthy (e.g. paypal) but I've never had problems receiving mails from Gmail accounts. And normally either all mail from one sender is blocked or none at all. I have no idea what the reason is. On the other hand I never received email notifications on v.1 so it's not that much of a problem. :)

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a T-rex by Krentz? My friends all have Sideshow, I must make amends.

I'm not sure if this is a major issue (maybe just my computer), but when I hit the back button after directly viewing a thread shown on the home page, it takes me back to a version of the home page that's several days old!  However, if I click our home button, or click on a section to view its individual threads, it takes me to an appropriately updated page.  A minor nuisance, but I thought I'd share in case it's part of a bigger problem.  :)

DinoToyForum

That could just be your browser settings. Anyone else have this issue?

----

By the way, I've implemented a mail queue, which should help ensure email notifications get sent out. At the very least, it will show me if emails are getting stuck in the system.

Want to bring back something mentioned on the first page. When replying after hitting Post I'm sent back to the forum instead of to the post I just made in the thread. I've never been on a board that does this and it's rather disconcerting. I want to see what my post looks like and this forces me to go back into the thread I just came from. Would be appreciated if you could look into this.

In your profile go to 'look and layout' and check the box that says 'Return to topics after posting by default'.  C:-)

I thought I'd made this option the default setting for the forum, but apparently not! I'll do that now.

Ah, thank you for letting me know. I'll go change that then.
Actually I see you changed it. Thank you.

Back on the topic of email notifications, I'm not receiving them any more either. For no apparent reason, they just stopped. I've checked and they notifications are going into an email queue, and are being 'sent', but clearly not being 'sent sent'. They seem to be getting stuck in the system. I'm scratching my head over this one. I don't know why this should suddenly stop working for different members at different times. hmmm.

EDIT - I'm receiving some notifications, actually. It just passed midnight here, and I received a notification, maybe the server has a daily limit for emails...

Metallisuchus

I've never received any e-mails regarding anything on this site, actually. Don't know if that helps...

I'm not certain my PM system is working, I've sent several messages lately and they're not showing up in my Sent Items section.  It's been several days now. :-\

Under the person messaging section in your profile area click the box "Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default."  C:-)

Here's a quicky - does anyone use the recent posts summary in the Info Centre on the main page? I've found myself using it quite a lot and I'm considering increasing the number of posts listed there...

I use it so routinely that I wonder if it should be positioned next to the home button rather than in 4th place.
Oops.  That is the recent button.  I should have said that no, I do not use the summary located at the bottom of the page.  Sorry.

I think you're referring to the recent posts page itself. I meant the little summary (in the form of links) at the bottom of the main page.

Still, it wouldn't be a bother to shift the 'Recent' button in the top menu along a few positions :)

Edit - thanks for the clarification :)

I wanted to request clarification regarding one aspect of the forum here if i might. I have been plowing through the various threads, and making sure I understood the rules and what not. One thing does not present itself with clarity however.
When I joined I created some threads of various kinds and posted photos to them. As I have watched and learned, I chose to create a photobucket account to remove the unfair burdern i have placed on the forums hosting ability. Eventually I hope to switch my threads over to html links and delete the attached files, to save at least that space for the forum and its needs, now that I better understand the way things should work.As this is somewhat an exercise in tedium I have found it slow going, but i will get it done.
I also made note of the posting limitation. I am unsure if that is also targeted at space saving for the forum or just to reduce babble posting. My own question centers around if there is a limit for threads, that can be opened and if so what is it, and so forth. I do not wish to exceed my given area to work within, so I wondered if I should delete a thread existing before opening a new one of any kind etc. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Metallisuchus

I was actually wondering about the photo issue here. I was wondering if maybe we should use links to our photos instead of posting the photos themselves? Maybe not entirely, but if we could do this at least a little bit, it could help out a lot in the end.
