That's peculiar..

On one of the images, it says it's 230 mm long

and on another, it says it's 298 mm long

Maybe for one they went for where the head was to the end of the tail and for another they went along the spine but it's odd they chose different measurements, even with the heights. :o

298 mm long is the size of the box.

As far as I know, no they are not.

While Safari is screwing around with their pointless teasing, PNSO just drops this absolute beauty on us. ::)

This figure is everything the GR version should've been and more. Really appreciate that PNSO didn't go overboard with the crocodilian influences, and it is most certainly an improvement on their previous Spinosaurus. My only major criticism would be that the base of the sail is too thin, which leads to an awkward transition from the well-muscled body to the thin sail. The claw length looks fine to me, it could be easily explained by a well developed keratin sheath.

Other companies have a HIGH bar to pass if they want to make a Spinosaurus of their own. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the definitive Spinosaurus figure... for the next 5 years ;).

Another thing, is the back of the skull supposed to be that wide?

With respect to its previous version, the spinosaurus Essien, this one is much better, apart from that, has no one noticed that its painting is comparable to the best repaints of Martin Garratt? Honestly, that brand has improved much more than imaginable. The size is small but it is still a great figure but it would have been better if it had been the same size as its predecessor or at least the size of the spinosaurus from GR Toys.

Anyway, it is one of the best spinosaurs made so far, far surpassing the other scientific spinosaurs from GR Toys. I am honestly going to prioritize spending and investing my money in PNSO dinosaurs instead of other brands like Mojo.

By the way, is it going to be traded on Aliexpress? I wish I knew which store has the lowest prices for that paleoart marvel. It is a great figure without a doubt.

I'm conflicted about the Spinosaurus.
Pro: It looks great! Very accurate.
Con: Way to small. Spinosaurus should be huge.

In the end I'm probably still going to get it. I don't care much for the Papo version. And the GR might look good, but the flat hand made it a no-go for me.

But what is this Mesozoo Spino everybody keeps talking about? I've only seen their Allosaurus.

R @Remko The most pleasing one of the upcoming bunch perhaps.

Now that looks fantastic! If it's anywhere near 1/35th scale it'll sure be in my collection!
Thanks!

No crocodilian scutes, almost perfect head, interesting pose (even if I'm not a fan of the whole knuckle walking thing), pretty coservative yet natural colors... What a Surprise! It's weird it shares the same name with the previous one, though...

Until February the Mesozoo spinosaurus will not be available. I leave a message given by the Mesozoo factory to my email:

"We hope to have the model spinosaurus in February and the Prestosuchus in April. The Ceratosaurus is only after the Spino and the Presto."

On the other hand, I have already ordered the PNSO spinosaurus on Aliexpress, it is now available at a more affordable price than on Amazon.

Sarapaurolophus

As soon as my friend sent me the pictures I knew I had to log on real quick and scream about this Spinosaur ;D

The raw measurements are difficult to visualize, but DinoWIKI had this photo...

Sorry, that's DinoKIWI...

I love how small it is. This means more affordable. PNSO has completely spoiled me, with now up to five releases I would like to own and if all of them were huge I just couldn't justify them. I start feeling bad if I spend over 100 on toys all at once.
Another plus this size range offers is that they take away less space. I imagine this cutie will look great with my Papo big girl. I can always pretend it's a juvenile.

Can't wait to see how avatar_Kapitaenosavrvs @Kapitaenosavrvs will repaint this. I know he'll do it eventually 8)

Hmmm... Looks like my picture was famous enough for the Paleo Need site to post without giving any credit... Cool!

Sorry for that, and please accept my apologies, I was in a rush when making the article and I went with the "someone" option. Do you want to be credited as Loon, or by another name? If you want me to erase the picture I will do it.

Puts it at about 1/70th scale.

So going off the dimensions that have been posted this is definitely on the small side, but not terribly small either. Maybe in the 1:55 to 1:78 range (going off what the scale calculator linked on Dan's Dinosaurs gives, and using the 12.6 to 18 meter estimate, with the figure's length of 23 centimeters given)?
So it looks like last year's Papo may be the "best" option to fill my 1/35 scale needs unless CollectA or Safari Ltd delivers on that front. That said I am still entirely interested in getting this one even if it is a bit smaller then expected, because the sculpt and color scheme is still gorgeous.
And seeing that this is now on Amazon right before posting this (thanks avatar_Renecito @Renecito ), boy is it pricey too. Like about 2/3 of the price of the Papo one I got last year. Well not like I could go rushing to go buy it right now anyways.
Edit: I wonder if this is at a smaller scale, not just because as part of their cheaper range, but also not to take away from their previous 1/35 scale Spinosaurus? The names are the same as well it seems after checking the Everything Dinosaur post and seeing more pics of the box.
I wouldn't use the 230 mm measurement straight up given the serpentine pose of this new Essien.
Using the top down images and a bit of scaling, the actual figure would be around 360 mm along the curves.
This will bump the scale to 1/50 from 1/78.
For comparison, old Essien is about 1/33 assuming Spinosaurus is 18 m.
If we use 15 m, old Essien would be 1/28 while new Essien will be 1/42.
Now, that is all assuming PNSO's 230 mm number is a straight line measurement.
This is likely given the box size is 298 mm.
But either way, the new figure will be smaller, by some margin.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but we have dimensions for the Spinosaurus courtesy of Everything Dinosaur's blog; it measures 23cm long by 10 cm high.

(they also have dimensions up for the new CollectA releases)
Falls into the deepest depression...

Of course, it was too good to be true...Even taking the curved neck and tail into account this cant reach beyond 30 cm...

What about the ~10 meter specimen fsac-kk 11888? The specimen where the infamous paddle tail was preserved.
What scale would the PNSO figure be if scaled to this spinosaurus individual?

Primeval12

Any word on price for this one? I just got the Papo spino yet this one seems more awesome!

Newt

This is a very handsome model. I don't think I'll get it anytime soon, though, simply due to Spinosaurus fatigue. Maybe in a few years.

Just divide the length of the animal (10,000 mm) by the length of the model to get the scale factor, then invert that (1/x) to get the scale.

If the model is 230 mm long from nose to tail, 10,000/230 = 43.48, so the model would be ca. 1/43 scale relative to that specimen.
If KeU's estimate of 360 mm is correct, 10,000/360 = 27.78, so the model would be ca. 1/28 scale.
If the nose to tail length is somewhere in between, the model might be 1/35 or thereabouts, which would be nice.

Of course, you'll get a more reliable scale estimate comparing elements (skull, limb bones, etc.) with better constrained lengths, since total length estimates always involve some guesswork. It looks like femur or tibia length will be the best bet for this one.
