Thank you both for visiting!

Now to wrap up my PNSO acquisitions (for now), the minis! I got this batch from 2 different orders back in June and September, and now they're finally entering my collection thread (there's still more from that span of time to be added.)

Here they are with the rest of my PNSO Minifigures. I think these are all the ones I'm going to get.

Another mini that joined my collection earlier this year is this: the Sega Dinosaur King Ceratosaurus from Playmates. I decided not to pursue completing my collection of Dinosaur King mini-figures, but I did get the Ceratosaurus as it's one of my favorite dinosaurs, both in the series and in general.

Among the rest of my aforementioned Dinosaur King mini collection:

Going from mini to mega is another miscellaneous addition: the Eofauna Atlasaurus! Even though I'm being more choosey about which species to get, this figure appealed to me despite being a species that I had never heard of prior to learning of this figure. Speaking of the figure: it's pretty good. It's nicely detailed and its large size gives it some impressive presence, even at the back of my top sauropod shelf. It's also my first Eofauna figure, entering both a new species and company to my collection.

This closes out part 4 of my big collection update. Stay tuned for the fifth and final episode to bring this thread up to speed on the current status of my collection.

Shonisaurus

Nice cast of new figures my congratulations, those PNSO minis are one of the best miniatures of prehistoric animals along with other companies such as Safari or Collecta although I have to admit that PNSO takes the cake in genius, although obviously they are more expensive from my humble point of view. Fortunately, I have them all and I hope to publish them if nature gives me some health soon, I too on my website.

The atlasaurus from Eofauna is a rare figure in the toy dinosaur market and together with the malawisaurus from Safari or the dicraeosaurus from GR Toys, giving two more examples, I understand that it is very difficult to unseat the sculptural genius by another company, although there are always companies that improve the figures.

I also congratulate you on the Sega Dinosaur King ceratosaurus. They are all very beautiful figures, like all DTF members, you have a very refined and successful taste when it comes to acquiring new figures and, most importantly, the photographic credit is spectacular.

Halichoeres

That's very similar (but not identical) to my selection of PNSO minis. Generally I went for the ones representing smaller animals, so that they might be in scale with my larger figures. I'm especially fond of the Odontochelys and Glyphoderma.

The EoFauna Atlasaurus is a must-have, too, in my book.

As for Sega, I kinda wish that line had been longer-lived. There was a quite a bit of untapped potential!

Same, as i primary collect 1:30 - 1:40 scale figures, the PNSO mini line works great for smaller species. They have a great amount of detail, both in sculpt and paintjob, I own the Sinosauropteryx too but I really like the Archaeopteryx, Liaoceratops, Mei long (I love that pose) and espcially the Nemicolopterus as well. Its a shame that PNSO seems to have abandoned the mini line.

Eofaunas Atlasaurus is the reason I'm so exited for the Dilpdocus earlier next year.  Eofauna does terrific Proboscidea and this seams to transfer into their Sauropods, combined with paint scheme that hit the sweet spot between colorfull but not turning too unrealstic.

The Ceratosaur has a nifty colorscheme, really makes the nasal horn pop. Great additions all around.

Yep, that was my strategy for getting those particular figures, too. I too wish that there were more of them being made.

Oh, definitely. If there's anyone here who would've loved more Dinosaur King merchandise, it's me.

Okay, here's the promised fifth part of my collection update a whole month later. Brace your computers, it's another avalanche of photos!

Today's featured company is CollectA, another manufacturer new to my shelves as of this last year. Previously my only figure from them was the Koreaceratops family, my acquisition of which I covered last spring (dang, it's been that long already?)

The first batch came alongside my Mini Sega Ceratosaurus from last time and consisted of the Fukuisaurus, Fukuiraptor, Gastonia, Hypsilophodon family, Deluxe Mapusaurus, and Deluxe Iguanodon.

More ornithopods are always a treat, and a rare one when they aren't Hadrosaurs.

My 2 main Iguanodon models. I know the Safari Iguanodon is really popular and won an award or something, but it's never really been a favorite of mine. Maybe I would like it better if it didn't have such sloppy eye paint.

The 2 CollectA small dino families together. By now there isn't really anything to say about these that hasn't already been said.

The denizens of Fukui.

The two new Theropods. At least I won't have to worry about them having trouble standing up. I hope.

Mapusaurus with fellow in-scale Carcharodontosaurid, Giganotosaurus. The GR Toys Carcharodontosaurus is sorely missed from this scene.

I already showed off the Gastonia alongside the rest of my Ankylosaurs in the PNSO Borealopelta update, so no point in doing it again. I can, however, show this:

My two new CollectA Thyreophorans.

The Gigantspinosaurus and Gomphotherium arrived from the fine folks at Everything Dinosaur back in October along with the Atlasaurus and a couple of the PNSO minis from updates past. Here's the former with most of my other Stegosaurs.

And here's all of my scientific Stegosaur sculptures. I think that does it for all the Stegosaurs I want right now. I'm hoping to eventually add Huayangosaurus, Lexovisaurus, and Wuerhosaurus once figures of those species come out that I actually like and want to get.

Finally, Gomphotherium accompanied by my other proboscideans. I first heard of Gomphotherium from the Fossil Fighters games (another obsession of mine), where it was one of many weird, obscure species being introduced to young me. When I first dove into CollectA's offerings and saw that they had made a pretty good figure of it, I was pleasantly surprised and put it on my to-get list, for the sake of one of my favorite obscure series.

All of Eofauna's proboscideans look great, (although I honestly can say I don't have much interest in Konobelodon, sorry.) but the only one that I actually plan to enter into my collection is Deinotherium, the species out of the lineup that I'm most interested in.

Whew! Alright, I think that's enough for this time. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I'll be back to this thread soon to post my newest additions, because of course by now it's become outdated once again. Maybe if I didn't wait so long between posts. Oh, well. Until next time, and Happy New Year to everyone!

The Ceratopsians gathered around their totally normal Christmas Tree, before the holidays are officially swept away, until next December.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Great acquisitions, ditto for your last batch which I seem to have missed. You have good taste in figures. Those are some of the nicest CollectA figures.
Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Archaeopteryx, Cetiosaurus, Compsognathus, Hadrosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Stenonychosaurus, Deinonychus, Maiasaura, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Argentinosaurus, Sinosauropteryx, Microraptor, Citipati, Mei, Tianyulong, Kulindadromeus, Zhenyuanlong, Yutyrannus, Borealopelta, Caihong

Shonisaurus

What a joy to take pictures! Of course, the Collecta figures are unbeatable when it comes to quality and price combined. You have made a good choice of figures, the gomphoterium and the iguanodon are my favorites of that group. And they are also very good, the Collecta Deluxe mapusaurus is honestly the one I like the most about the Collecta brand when it comes to this brand. My congratulations on your new acquisitions.

Certainly! Maybe I've been watching too many dinosaur toy reviews on YouTube, but I can't help putting new figures next to any other relevant figures in my collection, like some kind of never-ending comparisons segment.

Now, rather than procrastinate for another month, I'm making my next post here now. Today I'm focusing on my Black Friday 2021 haul, which I posted about in the Recent Acquisitions thread a little while back.

Specifically, the 3 new PNSO models I snagged during their Black Friday sale. The books were a Birthday present I received around the same time.

First up, Tarbosaurus. Yeah, he's kinda fat. But I don't really mind. In my eyes, it's better than the shrink-wrapped, starving look. It's good enough for me and my collection, anyway.

My only two Tarbosaurus figures. Quite the stylistic difference between them.

My mostly in-scale Tyrannosaur model family. I still need the Safari Daspletosaurus and CollectA Lythronax to complete this group.

Next up, Livyatan. I don't really have anything to compare this one to. I don't have any others of the species (not like there are really any other good ones.), nor do I have any other prehistoric whales.

I do appreciate the inclusion of the stands for this one, instead of just letting it sit on the ground, like the next figure...

I was hesitant to get PNSO's Dunkleosteus, for I already had the Safari version of the genus, and I was perfectly happy with it. However, after seeing some reviews of the figure and the plentiful praise being given, I decided to go for it. Some details that drew me in were the iridescent sheen, the skin-covered armor, and the larger body size proportional to the head, which makes it look more like a real animal to me. Maybe that's not necessarily the most accurate interpretation (I do know the figure at least has some other inaccuracies), but no figure is perfect. If I ignored every figure that had even one supposed inaccuracy, I wound't have any figures at all.
Overall, I quite like it, and there's nothing egregiously wrong about it, as far as I'm aware, and that's what matters. (To me.)

Sorry, I got a bit ramble-y there. Some figures nowadays get so divisive, I guess I felt like I had to justify my choices. Anyway, where was I going with this? Right, I took several pictures of the two Dunks before I sold off the Safari version. There's only space on my marine shelf for one.

I'll admit, the Safari Dunkleosteus does have its charm. I also like the warmer color scheme that stands stood out on my mostly blue-toned aquatic shelf.

Oh yeah, there's another thing about this figure that swayed me. The articulated jaw. I usually don't care about articulated jaws on figures, but the way this one works is just cool. It's one of the figure's best qualities, imo.

Just a few more group photos:
Big killer fish from PNSO.

Joined by my other PNSO marine creatures. Minis not included. I can pretty confidently say I like all of these.

And finally, all of my PNSO figures from the 2020-present era of releases. There's still several more I want to get. Eventually. I did go ahead and order myself the Pinacosaurus today. That little one will be joining the club soon.

To anyone who actually sits through and reads these things in full: Thank you and I'm sorry. To those that skip them: I don't blame you.
Next time, on some weirdo rambles about toy dinosaurs: Return to Jurassic World!

Shonisaurus

My congratulations on your new acquisitions. Honestly the PNSO tarbosaurus is much bigger than I imagined, it is almost as big as the safari tyrannosaurus.

When it comes to livyatan, it's huge! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Halichoeres

Great additions!

"If I ignored every figure that had even one supposed inaccuracy, I wouldn't have any figures at all."

Yup. Whereas I prefer things as accurate as possible, if we applied that standard too harshly I think the market would collapse.

I really like the Pinacosaurus, hope you do too!

If you don't already have it, I also recommend EoFauna's sauropod book.

Yes, folks, as regards your collecting philosophy concerning potential and actual inaccuracies, so often "excellent (especially when n/a), is the enemy of good enough".

Thank you! Yes, those two scale really well with one another. And the Livyatan really is big, it's a good thing it comes with stands or it would take up a huge chunk of floor space on my aquatic shelf.

Thanks! I agree, I'm not trying to say that scientific accuracy is only an unimportant factor for nitpickers to fuss about, but yeah, being too harsh starts to suck the fun out of it.

Yes, I do have the Sauropod book too. I believe it's buried somewhere in this thread. But I'll probably do a post at some point soon giving a brief look at all of my dinosaur books acquired over the past year or so.

Alright, my 300th post on the site, and nearly at my 2-year anniversary as well. Is that significant? Not really.

A brief aside: I love the Beasts of the Mesozoic figures, but I don't love this:

(I know, I need to dust again.) (And if you don't get it, they're paint flakes.)
This was from right after I took the Christmas tree photo from a couple posts ago. It seems like it happens every time I move them. Makes me hesitant to pose them, which kinda defeats the point of a posable figure. But they still look good, and from a distance the paint chips mostly aren't noticeable. I guess this is another example of taking the bad with the good.

I've been going light on the Jurassic World toys this year. Aside from the few Legacy Collection releases, I've only gotten (and kept) about 5 figures this year, and only 3 of them are from the Dino Escape line. There are a few reasons for this.
One reason is me holding back for the onslaught of products likely to be released next year for Dominion.
Another reason is the relatively light number of new species compared to repaints of old figures. This isn't necessarily a negative to me though, sometimes less is more.
Another is my lack of interest in some of the new species' figures combined with waning interest in pursuing various levels of completionism. For the first 2 years, I was all in on the line. Starting with Primal Attack, I realized I was just buying repaint after repaint for no real reason and with no end in sight. This year, I found myself not really impressed by most of the new species being introduced. I already gave my reasons about the Zuniceratops, but the Masiakasaurus and Chialingosaurus didn't appeal to me either, and when the Tanystropheus was first revealed, that sealed the deal: I would only get the figures that I really wanted to get. I've applied that strategy to my collecting in general, and I'm pretty happy with it. Of course, these are just my opinions. If you like any of those figures or are a completionist of any kind, more power to you.

I got all 3 of these separately throughout the last month. My purchase of them was mostly driven by my like of Jurassic World Evolution, as species that have some connection to the franchise interest me the most. (Having said that, some of my favorite figures in the line are total randos.) The movie figures foremost, as evidenced by my Legacy Collection additions earlier this year. The others were the green Sinoceratops and Telltale game-inspired Troodon. I would've gotten the Ouranosaurus, but I missed the boat and don't feel like overpaying for it now.

The capture gear is a neat addition. Although, admittedly, for someone like me who just puts the figures on a shelf and looks at them, without doing dioramas or extensive photography (even though I'd sometimes like to), it doesn't have much use to me.

On to comparisons, yay!
My Carcharodontosaurus figures. Again, I really need to get the GR Toys Carchar.

My Pentaceratops figures. A Warm base tone and dark stripes seems to be a very popular color choice for Pentaceratops (Looking at you too, Schleich and BOTM.)

Every species in my Mattel Ceratopsian family. Not a bad bunch.

I still haven't opened the Kentrosaurus yet. I'm definitely keeping it, it's just that like many, I'm none too impressed with the paintjob given to the figure. I'm considering sprucing it up myself, which will be easier while it's disassembled. But who knows how long it'll take me to actually do it.

Coming back to Jurassic World Evolution again, I was gifted JWE 2 for Christmas last year (that feels weird to say, but, technically.) I also just managed to procure a Playstation 5 for myself, so that upgrade feature will come in handy.

That almost does it for my additions from last year, but I still have some more to show and then some. Next time.

Shonisaurus

My congratulations on your new acquisitions. Indeed, as you say, priority must be given in this case to the JP / JW collection and to all collections in the face of the rain of novelties that are coming this next year. I also congratulate you on your acquisitions related to audiovisuals.

Halichoeres

Yeah, wow, there isn't much variation in Pentaceratops paint jobs!

Bummer about the BotM paint. I've seen some paint damage on my dromaeosaurs too.

I'm back again. In the time since my last update, I've acquired another trio of PNSO's recent-ish models. Not a huge amount, but I have been hesitant when it comes to purchases due to the numerous amount of figures from various lines that I'd like to get (not just dinosaurs and the like) that are moderately to rather-very expensive. I did have a gift card left from Christmas though, which led to these three...

First is Pinacosaurus, which I got back in January a few days after my previous post in this thread, and showed off in Recent Acquisitions. It's a nice little addition to the Ankylosaur family. Very flat though, makes some of his details hard to see.

With added scenery.

The other two I received last week, the first of which to arrive was Olorotitan. It's a nice, big addition to the Ornithopod family. Very tall though, makes any figures displayed behind him hard to see.

Impeccable balance, too. Doesn't even need the stand, or tail, to stay up. (Not pictured.)

Last is Cretoxyrhina. It's a nice addition to my aquatic life, yada yada. Anyone else think he looks kinda cute, too?

I love the shininess of his paintjob. The only downside to hime is that he makes my PNSO Megalodon look pitifully puny.

I'm slowly catching up with all the newer PNSO releases that I'm after. I've ordered their Centrosaurus, next in line will be Styracosaurus, Zhuchengtyrannus, and Tsintaosaurus (that one hopefully on sale.) I'm also considering their Helicoprion.

One last thing I have to show: This poster that I have from my childhood. It's... not great, to say the least. But I wanted to share it for your amusement before I get rid of it.

Gothmog the Baryonyx

I do think the Cretoxyrhina looks cute, said the same thing when I got him. But I do think of most actual sharks as being cute anyway.

Lovely acquisitions there
Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Archaeopteryx, Cetiosaurus, Compsognathus, Hadrosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Albertosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Stenonychosaurus, Deinonychus, Maiasaura, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Argentinosaurus, Sinosauropteryx, Microraptor, Citipati, Mei, Tianyulong, Kulindadromeus, Zhenyuanlong, Yutyrannus, Borealopelta, Caihong

Shonisaurus

My congratulations on your new acquisitions. The olorotitan is for me the prettiest of the PNSO trio that you have acquired in your collection, he is a majestic figure. The pinacosaurus has a very lively painting and on the other hand the cretoxyrhina is quite good, it is good that there is a figure worthy of that prehistoric shark in size apart from the mini cretoxyrhina from Safari.

Halichoeres

These are definitely among my favorites of PNSO's recent releases, grrat stuff.

That poster isn't so bad, clearly aimed at kids but it has lots of variety!

Thanks, I've been trying to go for the very best selection. Good point about the poster, perhaps I treated it too harshly.

Eocarcharia

Another collection update, another trio of PNSO figures.

As mentioned in my previous update, I ordered the Centrosaurus. Finally a good Centrosaurus model. I really like it, I just wish the nose horn was pointed back or straight up instead of forward. But aside from that one tiny detail, it's a great figure.

Technically the only other Centrosaurus I own, although I tend to think of it as a Monoclonius. I wish the actual BotM Centrosaurus wasn't so oversized compared to the advertised scale.

#2: Styracosaurus. This is another great figure, just like the Centrosaurus. Though unlike Centrosaurus, there's no shortage of good Styracosaurus figures available. That being said, PNSO's does beat out my previous static Styracosaurus figure, Safari's 2019 version, which is by no means a bad figure either. The drab colors on PNSO's model are definitely less appealing (although the red spots on the Safari's frill aren't the best application), but the lack of blunt, drooping horns ensures PNSO's place on my ceratopsian shelf.

Another family photo, this time with every Styracosaurus figure in my collection.

#3: Helicoprion. I decided to go ahead and get this one, too, and it's pretty good (not as great as PNSO's Cretoxyrhina though). It is a welcome improvement over Safari's mini Toob figure, something that I forgot to mention about the Cretoxyrhina. It's okay Safari, I still love you, even if I'm replacing a bunch of your figures.
This is another figure that took me off-guard with how unexpectedly large it is. Here it is with the rest of my PNSO sharks. Edestus next, please...

Another group shot with PNSO's recent killer fish. I love the shimmery, iridescent paint used on these three.

And here is my entire prehistoric "shark" family. I'm debating whether or not to reinstate the Toob Scapanorhynchus, Cladoselache, and Sarcoprion. Probably won't happen, as space on the marine shelf grows tighter and tighter.

The only other PNSO figure that actively has my attention now is the Zhuchengtyrannus, which I'll probably pick up eventually. The Tsintaosaurus I would get if it wasn't so expensive for what you're getting. I imagine the just-revealed Torosaurus will be much the same way. Not a huge complaint from me though, it's not like I have any shortage of other things to collect.
