Jurassic World (Various): New for 2022

Wow I'm digging this one already (aside from the quick look at it earlier on, that was swiftly removed afterwards, and that one video). The new Dreadnoughtus I mean.

Also forgot to add that I also only own the 2018 Ceratosaurus, and no others yet. So this is great to have a much more articulated one now, and with hopefully way better stability. Though it does make my original one feel redundant now. Honestly I have a feeling this will feel more and more like this in time for others in my collection as well, such as the new T. rex (and hopefully a TLW buck), etc, though that isn't to say I don't like them. Hard to believe I almost feel nostalgic for them now. It's been that long. Plus without them I wouldn't have assembled such a near complete film species collection. Though still missing Corythosaurus, Mamenchisaurus, and the JPIII raptors at this point. Maybe a few other minor ones like the JPIII Ankylosaurus, etc as well.

Also I mentioned this is in the Mattel digits thread, but I swear that Siamosaurus has been inspired by the Ark Spinosaurus. It also has that extra digit/thumb. It also has the weight bearing first digit on the feet, as this toy does, and like the real animal (well as far as Spinosaurus goes. Siamosaurus is a tooth taxon). And can't forget the mini Spinosaurus that also had a fourth digit on the hands for whatever strange reason. The animals in Ark are also in-universe genetic abominations much like the Jurassic animals as well. And actually way back in 2019 their Tapejara figure was definitely based entirely on the Ark design. I thought it looked familiar after I started playing it back in late 2020. I will definitely pick this one up to stand in as the closest thing to a toy of the Ark Spinosaurus, and it is also probably the closest attempt to a post 2020 or 2014 Spinosaurus anyways that they'll do.

And the Tapejara too because why not:

That dreadnoughtus is beautiful! Improved articulation, well proportioned feet and tail, yeah this one's a knockout compared to the apatosaurus!

Flaffy

To people on FB groups and Twitter who claimed that the Apatosaurus HAD to have a midget tail and stubby neck in order to be a viable toy... Well there it is, a majestic, well-proportioned Dreadnoughtus. Look at it's tail! It's massive! It's everything the Apatosaurus should've been and more. No awkward half-jaw articulation either ;).

Glad to see them improve upon the Brachiosaurus by including an extra point of articulation on the neck. I think it's safe to say that this piece will be one of the center pieces of any Jurassic collection.

After Mattel decided to omit Iguanodon's signature and defining trait --- it's thumb spike, I went back to check if the film design had a similar issue. It turns out, not even the film design screwed up Iguanodon's manus like Mattel did; it's got a proper thumb spike, and a clawless opposable digit V, just like the real animal.

So as to how Mattel managed to miss this crucial detail, along with adding a large claw on it's pinkie, is beyond me.

It's blue, it looked green on that video where we got a good first look.

1 meter and a half...yikes. I said before that I had the feeling that I won't get it because I don't know were the heck I would put it. And that length just reinforces that feeling. A shame, cause it looks great.

45cm longer than the Apatosaurus? pretty close. i'd say it bodes well for a mamenchisaurus later.
Yeah, just change the neck and tail, repaint it, and voilĂ , Mamenchisaurus. Do it Mattel.

Yeah the forelimbs that are on the Mattel figure are very strange. Same goes for the oddly shrink wrapped head. Even the Prologue one looked okay. It's also missing the scutes or whatever above the eye of the film animal. I wonder if this was sculpted before they had a film design and was colored like the film one afterwards. We saw that happen with the Pachyrhinosaurus sculpt in 2018 that was colored and marketed as the Sinoceratops. Yet another I hope gets a more film accurate HC version in the future, but despite my gripes it'll tie me over for now.

So there's some color variations of the Lystrosaurus and others from some 20 pack? Not something I've heard about before. The person who found these is in Italy so I wonder if this is a product sold in international markets and not here in the US. Anyone have more info?

This is news to me as well. Though quite a few of the 20 pack figures look to have noticeably worse paint than their standalone counterparts if that's any consolidation to those who have already acquired the first wave of blind-boxes.

In other news, we do have more mini playsets coming! Perfect for those who prefer their collection micro-sized.

Advent calendar (a bit early isn't it? ::))

Multi-packs; is it just me or does the Pyroraptor mini have fuller wings than the larger mainline version?

"Mini Malta-Mashup"

And of course... Leaks for the next 2 waves

Faelrin

avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy Not just you. I noticed that as well. Might have been in development after the mainline figure was designed. But well at least the mini does have them. Guess I should probably skip out on the blind boxes and just go with those sets with the mini human characters. I want to avoid doubles for the most part.

Strepsodus

So today at Walmart I saw the Skorpiovenator, but I wanted to check here to see if it had any glaring inaccuracies before buying it.

Faelrin

@Stepsodus Skull looks a bit shorter/blunter then it should be, the arms have elbows (and therefore longer then they should be), and maybe incorrect number of digits on the hands too, not sure.

I wrote a review for it on the blog. The head is too short and too big, and the arms are too large. There are only 3 digits on the hand when there should be 4. Some proportion issues too, all typical of Mattel. Overall though, not bad for Mattel. I love it.

So for anyone wondering about that Mini Multi pack, this Sound Surge Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus review shows everything that's inside it, as well as the package (at the end of the video, for some reason):

I came across this while trying to gather information on the product codes for upcoming updates to the DinoToyCollector website.

Has anyone added the dreadnaughtus to The species list yet?

GojiraGuy1954

Shrek 4 is an underrated masterpiece

Flaffy

Well well well, even Kaiyodo's doing something Jurassic related.

Darko2300

Faelrin

Nice. Last time they did anything Jurassic was back with the JPIII line right?

Hmm those look kind of large too...interesting.

I think Sega released the last larger figures for Jurassic World:FK ?

stargatedalek

ARTPLA is a new line Kaiyodo is pushing where the figures are sold unpainted. Unsure if assembly is also required.
