Dusty the Diplocaulus (Paleo Pals)

…rd. Dusty the Diplocaulus measures 20 inches long, placing him within “life-size” range of the real animal, which grew up to 3 feet long. Although Dusty’s appearance is understandably simplified for the sake of design, all the major anatomical features of the animal are present: the massive boomerang head, the rotund body, two tiny pairs of limbs, and a long paddle-like tail. The patterns on his back and head are highlighted with embossed outlines…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Small)(UKRD)

…e on cards. Unlike today’s sub-museum lines, they were made out of a rubber-like material and can withstand the test of time while still retaining their shape. In the small line, there were 12 different models and two of them were not dinosaurs. In my youth, I had 11 of them, but some were lost to the sands of time in my home. One of the figures that I lost was the only Tyrannosaurus rex I had for this line. I found it buried in the backyard a goo…

Chasmosaurus ( Kaiyodo Natural History Collection)

…Chasmosaurus were not the largest of the ceratopsians, measuring around 14-15 feet in length and weighing in at around 1.5 – 2 tones.  There are two species currently know c.russelli and c. belli. What separates the two apart are the difference in horn and frill shape. Figure comes with a simple wooden base Herds of these large herbivore once roamed what would one day be known as Canada’s Alberta Dinosaur Park and shared the environment with othe…

Polacanthus (Definitely Dinosaurs by Playskool)

…nger demographic. But this Polacanthus was not too far off in its accuracy compared to the real animal. But more on that later. While Definitely Dinos certainly stand the test of time in terms of durability, they often sustain minor blemishes and discoloration from their young owners. My figure is one such example, evidenced by the red streak over the left eye, likely inflicted by a marker. But aside from that, this popular nodosaur is as ready to…

Brachiosaurus (Tamiya)

…aeopteryx is, once again, based on the pigments found on the fossils, as I feel it works quite well. The juvenile and the spare leg are based on pictures seen in “The Sauropod Dinosaurs” by Mark Hallett and Mathew J. Wedel, specifically pictures showing Jurassic sauropods across the globe and images of Dinosaurier Park in Münchehagen, Germany. Also used the leg to practice blackwash painting. I have little to complain with in terms of accuracy. Th…

Brontosaurus (Tyco)

…of those accessories. While I do collect toy dinosaurs I don’t collect Dino-Riders. That may raise some eye-brows from those wishing for a full review of a complete toy but I’m here to look at the dinosaur itself. Suffice it to say that there are other sites more dedicated to Dino-Riders than this one. I did enjoy the show and toys as a kid but my budget doesn’t allow anything past the price of this toy just by itself.   Even if the military gear…

Ichthyosaurus (Invicta)

…attempted to give this model some teeth. The colour that this one was most commonly sold in is a dark sky blue, and the painted version(which I do not own) is done up like a modern day cetacean from what I saw in a picture from a DTF forum member’s collection. Overall, this is one Invicta model that has stood the test of time, due to the fact that this particular creature have remained almost unchanged since its initial release. Like all Invicta m…

Psittacosaurus (Definitely Dinosaurs by Playskool)

…round perpendicular to the body, in somewhat of a corkscrew manner. Taco’s feet have three toes each, and his hands have four fingers, although the smallest digits are on the inside, resembling thumbs, when they should be on the outside, resembling pinkies. This toy can stand on its own two feet, but only in a typical tripod stance with the tail. The legs are positioned oddly, as though leaning back for the tail to take more support. Like all the…

Pachycephalosaurus (The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Series 1 by Kenner)

…cation is well executed. While the toy as a whole is made of hard plastic the tail is made of stiff rubber. The toy measures about 7” in length. Although odd looking, this is a fun and dynamic toy to play with. This Pachycephalosaurus has stood up to the test of time as well, being re-released for “The Lost World” in 1997 it still functions like brand new, on my individual at least. Apparently the button has a tendency to stick on some toys. Altho…

Sinopterus (Günther)

…into decent figures by major toy companies. Here’s one that hasn’t: a wind-up flying Sinopterus by German toy company Günther. Here it is in its package, which is bedecked with an uncredited illustration of Regaliceratops by Julius Csotonyi. Ah, Regaliceratops, everyone’s favorite flugsaurier. The back of the package features warnings in several languages, as well as instructions in a slightly smaller number of languages. You can see from this ph…

Brachiosaurus (Invicta)

…usibly erect neck. Nevertheless, it has its flaws by modern standards. The feet are unquestionably incorrect and the neck might just be a little too graceful and upright, although it is still far superior to the later Carnegie Collection Brachiosaurus in this respect. Also, on most modern restorations the nostrils are not placed as high on the skull, and the short mouth seems to indicate that this Brachiosaurus has been given cheeks! Of course, fo…

Bajadasaurus (CollectA)

…ilar in its body design as well as size, which is estimated to be around 10-13 meters based on available fossil material. The forward-facing neck spines in full display. So, what makes Bajadasaurus such an unusual sauropod? One of the bones found was a single neck vertebra, while the exact location in the neck is not exactly known, some think that it could be either the sixth or seventh depending on which close relative it is compared with. What is…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Battle Damage)(Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)

…without your hands getting in the way. In terms of durability, the model feels (and most likely is) pretty hollow. However, it also feels really sturdy, and could probably handle some abuse, (unlike Hasbro’s Bashers and Biters toys) but I’m not willing to bash this toy around with other dinosaurs to test its limits. In terms of scientific accuracy, there is not much to talk about. It’s a JW toy made for kids. So this toy is going to have the ang…

Spinosaurus (Jurassic World Hybrids by Hasbro)

…erhaps the biggest thing Hasbro failed to correct with this figure are the feet. They did not change the design flaw at all, so when the feet are evenly aligned, the three toes on the left foot are still raised up. Since this is exactly the same sculpt as the 2015 figure, its gimmick operates the exact same way. You pull down the tail to make the head go up, and pull it to the side to make it open its mouth. The only difference between this model…

Tyrannosaurus Rex (Jurassic World Basher and Biters by Hasbro)

…can wear or break easily. Green Basher and Biter with the Medium Chomper T-Rex This is a toy that kids from ages 2-8 will have fun with, but the older the kid, the more they notice all the flaws with it. With decent articulation and stability, along with a working action feature, it can find play time in a kids imaginary adventures. Due to the questionable quality of the toy, I am not certain how long it can stand the test of time before it break…

Borealopelta (CollectA)

and grey toy of just the mummified fossil remains. Due to the amazing condition of the remains (sadly missing the back half due to it being scooped up previously) it gave CollectA a chance to make a super accurate toy. They did not disappoint.  It is accurate for collectors, playable for youngsters, and I think it might be gravy to your mashed potatoes.   Due to the small size it can be found at a low reasonable price.  This is one toy that I reco…

Edaphosaurus (Fèves)

…matter. The origin of these figures is especially exciting: A popular fairy-tale figure named „Peau d´Ane“, (“Donkey Skin” in English) from the 13th century was said to have lost a ring in his cake mixture during baking. Hence developed the rite of stirring a hard bean, French “Fève” into the traditional cake the French bake on January 6th, the day of Epiphany. Since people need change they developed other items from different materials to stir in…

Velociraptor (Rhode Island Novelty)

…rethink exactly what is open for reviewing on this blog. I thought I would test the waters by reviewing one of my cheap “Chinasaurs” brand dinosaurs that I have been buying every time I go to the local vegetable or fruit festivals, whenever they are available. Before I start, I just want to get one thing straight. This is a cheap toy that will never stand up to the likes of Safari, CollectA, Papo, or even Schleich. And it has many accuracy probl…

Dingy Dino (TMNT by Playmates)

…part of the original TMNT line. The following year saw the releases of Cave-Turtle Don and his Trippy Tyrannosaurus, Cave-Turtle Mike and his Silly Stegosaurus, and Cave-Turtle Raph and his Tubular Pterodactyl. These were followed in 1994 by Cave-Beast Bebop and his Bodacious Brontosaurus and Cave-Woman April and her Radical Raptor. Alas, I never purchased any of those toys when I had the chance. Anyhoo, let’s look at the one I do own. Dingy measu…

Tyrannosaurus rex (Tamiya)

…orld. Or is it? Now for measurements. This T. rex seems to weigh around 100-200 grams (around half as heavy as the Eofauna Giganotosaurus) due to being hollow. It’s surprisingly large at 41 cm long and 16 cm tall, which would place this model at around 1/32 to 1/30 scale. However, using their outdated 50 feet estimate, this would be around 1/36. With another tyrannosaurid, Tarbosaurus bataar from PNSO. And with another large carnivore that rivaled…
