Dromaeosaurus (Beasts of the Mesozoic 1:18 by Creative Beast Studio)
…inal design of this figurine – or at least my copy – but the 1/18 Dromaeosaurus is an overall great little collectors’ item that is sure to please enthusiasts, especially once it’s ready to pose alongside their 1/18 giant Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus. Currently all 1/18 minifigures are available for preorder exclusively through the Creative Beast website shop, and I do recommend ordering while they’re discounted from full retail price….
Stegosaurus (Carnegie Collection by Safari Ltd)
…d’s Wild Safari versions (reviewed here and here, one of which is streets ahead of this Carnegie Collection model. Still, all in all, this is a nice little figure, even if it is really due an overhaul. Of the original Carnegie line up, Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, and Diplodocus have all received brand new sculpts (and the originals are still available too). Surely Stegosaurus, another big character in the world of dinosaurs, is next…
Spinophorosaurus by Bullyland (exclusively for the Staatliches Naturhistorisches Museum, Braunschweig)
…It does not deserve being compared to rough AAA style – it is a museum quality figure by it´s overall look. In my opinion it is a must for every collector who does not only want the average “Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus” stuff. The neat little guy perfectly fits in every collection and will probably become a collector´s item due to its exclusiveness. Let the hunt begin!…
Beasts of the Mesozoic Avaceratops (ceratopsian series)
…kull’s parietals). It had a solid frill, a characteristic shared only with Triceratops. Despite this similarity, the closest known relative is Nasutoceratops. Avaceratops lived in wet, heavily forested environments. Well, it uses the same body as some dinos we have already seen, but ceratopsians kind of had the same body type anyways. Mostly. I still wish Silva would have done an Anchiceratops, but that is just me. I also with I had taken more pic…
Lockwood Ultimate Battle Set (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom by Mattel)
…k with it, and opened it anyways. I really wanted to play with the strange Triceratops skull featured in Lockwood Manor’s museum, which featured taxidermized dinosaurs, and the real bones of the creatures that were made in the lab lurking below the surface. Another thing I wanted to point out is that I always appreciated the fact that Mattel packaged their Indoraptors in boxes that had a rainy, stormy motif, as Indoraptor was never on Isla Nublar,…
Velociraptor (Blue) (Bite Club by Mattel)
…the Bite Club figures are then I guess you didn’t read my review of their Triceratops. Bite Club figures utilize the chibi art style that originated in Japan and was popularized in the west by Funko Pop to present cute chubby facsimiles of our favorite movie dinos. With a body that’s wider than it is long and her belly practically dragging on the ground, the days of racing Owen’s motorcycle are long behind her. Blue’s lipped mouth and wide scales…
Nasutoceratops (Haolonggood)
…scattered over the skin as seen in skin samples from the distantly-related Triceratops. Every detail down to earholes and a cloaca have been accounted for; Haolonggood may have made curious choices about the skull, but they certainly aren’t negligent about the design. Nasutoceratops has unexpectedly achieved something akin to low-key star power, thanks to a short spotlight in in Jurassic World franchise and a variety of merchandising. Haolonggood’…
Polacanthus (Deluxe by CollectA)
…osaurus and Stegosaurus and Brontosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex confronting Triceratops in a manner suspiciously resembling the work of one Charles R. Knight. And there was also a dinosaur I had never heard of before: the aforementioned Polacanthus. It had a head that looked like Stegosaurus‘, but then it had two rows of curved spikes running down its back, a bumpy shield over its hips, and then more rows of spikes running down its tail. Needless t…
Dilophosaurus Ambush (Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary by LEGO)
…t colours, including the red stripes that are supposed to somehow make the Triceratops keep their distance from it. Sure didn’t stop Rexy, though!” “Yes, and it also bears the correct number, #12, on the license plates, hood, and doors, Beth. Kudos as well to the designers for going to the effort of incorporating dull brown bricks into the build so that the vehicle appears to be splattered with mud. The top of the roof is easily removable to allow…
Protoceratops (Beasts of the Mesozoic: Ceratopsian Series 1/6 by Creative Beast Studio)
…t the swift theropod in an iconic fashion paralleling the famous T. rex-vs-Triceratops feud. It’s only natural Protoceratops would feature in the Beasts of the Mesozoic line, the dream project of toy designer David Silva and his independent company, Creative Beast Studios. Released in 2020, Protoceratops is no. 08 of the Ceratopsian series, marked 1/6 scale (as opposed to 1/18 like most of the series; David Silva has since produced a 1/18 version…
Tyrannosaurus (Eofauna)
…l Creek critters. The PNSO Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus, and Safari Triceratops. With the PNSO Alamosaurus. The Eofauna Tyrannosaurus deviates greatly from the mental image most of us have of this animal to present a scientifically accurate and biologically informed figure unlike any other. This unique approach to Tyrannosaurus, along with some unusual jaw articulation, make the figure a bit of an acquired taste but once you’ve become accus…
Tyrannosaurus rex (Bendable by UKRD)
…difference. What’s the point in bending the very tubby legs of the line’s Triceratops? The bipedal dinosaurs, like this Tyrannosaurus, fared slightly better, but the only pose beside a stiff standing pose that could be applied was a useless “spread eagle” pose. You may wonder why I’m writing much of this in past tense, but that’s because all my figures from this line seem to have become even less mobile than they originally were, as it seems the…
Nasutoceratops (Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, Captivz Build N’ Battle Dinos by ToyMonster)
…ss hatching, which is honestly fine but it’s worth noting that the Captivz Triceratops and Pachyrhinosaurus do have scale detail, which I think makes them better than this one. This figure has a noticeable seam below the eyes and frill. These toys come in pieces but this isn’t one of them and it is more noticeable than the seams around the tail or neck, where the figure does come apart! It’s rather unsightly. The figure is mostly dull purple with…
Stegosaurus (Haolonggood)
…llectors want dinosaurs identifiable at the species level. They don’t want Triceratops, they want T. prorsus. They don’t want Edmontosaurus, they want E. annectens. I’m not trying to throw shade here, it’s great that the standard of quality in this hobby has risen to this level. And I’m occasionally one of those people myself (we tend to be a nerdy bunch). When multiple species within a genus are so visually distinct from each other that the speci…
Pteranodon (Ultimate Dinosaurs by Yowie Group)
…ost are sub-par figures of your usual prehistoric critters. Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and the subject of today’s review, Pteranodon. Yawn! Yowie really missed an opportunity to showcase some interesting prehistoric genera and when compared to their various extant animal series this one comes across as the least remarkable, lowest quality, and laziest. Despite being a disappointment, I still had to buy a couple of Yowies the last tim…
