Oh, yes, may we, please? That has always been especially useful.

brontodocus

Good point, I'll second that, too! It'd be indispensable as the threads get longer and we know they will. :)

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a T-rex by Krentz? My friends all have Sideshow, I must make amends.

Tylosaurus

Ohh yes here another vote from me too I third that too! xD

Great idea.  Thank you.  Now stoneage can get his Karma  back.

;D  Problem is I don't remember how much Karma I had, maybe 30 something.

Wow...the Karma thing was pulled off of there like 4 years ago! How would you even begin to remember that!?

It really doesn't seem like 4 years to me.  I still remember the phone number of a couple of friends I had in the early sixties.  Plus I remember the address from all the places I lived with my parents when I was young.  I remember breaking a window and breaking my arm when I was three.  I tend to remember numbers easier then peoples names.  I believe it is all still there, sometimes it's just hard to access it.   ::)

What is this 'link to post' you speak of?  ???

Also, if we all decide we want the old smilies back, that can be done. Perhaps I should put it to the vote and create a poll? Shall I?

Tylosaurus

Go ahead mate , it would be interesting to see what the others would like :)

The "link to post" feature is useful for very long threads or for cross references in the forum, if you want to directly link to a certain post without quoting. Here's an example of what the result of it would look like (I'm just linking to your post but it will appear at the top of the page):
http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,8.msg2574.html#msg2574
I mostly use it in cases where I want to credit the author of the original post which - at least for me - often seems more appropriate than a quote. Of course we could type the link to an individual post but the "link to post" button made it more comfortable. :)

Ah, thanks, I know what you mean now, the link that used to be in the bottom right of the post. OK, I'll see if I can install a mod that does that :)

Also, did anybody use bookmarks on the old forum?

Tylosaurus

As far as I know this website already has link to post .

After clicking brontodocus' "Re: New forum - questions"
http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,8.msg2576.html#msg2576

The url links to his post :)

Same as Dinotoyforum's post on page 4 about half way down:
http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,8.msg527.html#msg527

There you go, we actually already have Link To Post  8)

DinoToyForum

Brontodocus just said as much, but you have to copy the link manually. We want a simple button.

Tylosaurus

hmm I see, only if you have a topic with like 50+ pages I'd be interested how this can be done via a single button, I understand the simplicity to such a feature, very interesting :)

Why is this smiley- ^-^- called Azn? Doesn't look very Asian to me.

Not trying to make waves, it just seemed a bit odd.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Any chance of getting a Multi-Quote button ?

It's the default file name, I thought it was just a smug/happy smiley :)

There isn't a mod for that yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. :)

I am getting a scroll bar on any image that is 700 px wide or more, is anyone else experiencing this?

Also, what about having the enlarged picture open in a new window or tab, instead of resizing in the current window? That or Himmapaan's suggestion, to have the forum itself expand when an image is enlarged.

Hi Seijun, every user will see the forum slightly differently, depending on the browser they are using and their screen resolution. If you are seeing a scroll bar for 700px wide images, then this might be resolved for you by changing your screen resolution. I suspect the vast majority of users shouldn't have to scroll for an 800px wide images. If I'm wrong about this generality and most users are seeing scroll bars for images at 800px, then I'll make the max image width smaller. For me on my settings (1280x800), 800px images fit comfortably.

Anyway, I'm currently looking into forum modifications for improved image display. But don't wait for me, this is a learning process for me  ;)

I've been beavering away on a solution to the image resize issue, and believe I have made a breakthrough! Newly posted images greater that 800px should now expand into a new window when the bar above them is clicked. Like so:

Unfortunately, this modification does not work retroactively on existing posts, so large images already posted to the forum will not have this feature yet - actually they are stuck at 800px wide and don't expand at all  :-[ . So, to make this feature work for these images, you (or I) must go through a simple procedure. Click 'modify' and delete the height and width values that have been automatically added to the image code. e.g. delete the bit in red here:

[ i m g width=800 height=464 ]http://www.dinotoyblog.com/dinotoyimages/collection2_dec_2011.jpg [ / i m g ]

After deleting (make sure your image tags are otherwise intact), click 'save', and like magic, the images should re-resize(!), and all should be well.

I hope this all makes sense.

EDIT - Malcolm obviously has a lot of threads, so maybe us mods can chip in and help edit a few of his posts. I've made a start:
http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,125.msg1636.html#msg1636

Also, if we think 800px might still be too big for the resized...size, I should set a smaller limit sooner rather than later - thought?
