is this going to be in 1/18 scale too?

I presume it is EXTINCT beasts of the Cenozoic, since we're still living in the Cenozoic.  :)

If I had to guess, that's probably likely. The Smilodon did show up in Cyberzoic concept art, and that line is 1/18 scale.

Honestly I'm not sure about that. If I recall correctly David did express interest in doing extant animals I think? Or perhaps he'd just like to see those done since high quality action figures of extant animals are few and far between, aside from dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, before he got involved that is (the only one that comes to my mind at the moment is the recent GI Joe wolf). Extinct animals are probably likely (especially with Smilodon there front and center in the logo), but who knows if some modern ones will be made as well.

Over9K

I would not be able to resist a 1/18 articulated Columbian Mammoth.

Dusty Wren

Can't say that David isn't ambitious. Adding this toy line when he's already got two other lines in the works sounds like an incredible amount of work.

I'm not complaining, mind, because I can't wait to see what he comes up with. I just hope he doesn't burn himself out.
Check out my customs thread!

andrewsaurus rex

Indeed.  I hope he's not biting off more than he can chew.  Exciting time to be a dino toy collector.   The prospect of mammoths, gomphotheres, short faced bear,  giant sloth et al in 1/18 is awesome.

I do worry about the articulation ruining these furry animal sculpts though.  Wouldn't bother me if the articulation was scaled back a bit (or a lot) on this series.

suspsy

I've already put forward my request for Arctotherium angustidens.

Are you sure it's actually a new line or just part of Cyberzoic? Can't see the post atm, so if it is a dead giveaway and actually a new line, sorry.

avatar_Lynx @Lynx Definitely a new line. I imagine since Smilodon will be in the Cyberzoic, and since everything else there is also getting a BotM version (or already has one in the case of Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, etc), it makes sense to offer a new color variation in a new Beasts of the Cenozoic line as well, since Smilodon was Cenozoic, not Mesozoic.

Anyways here's my huge wishlist of sorts for what I'd like to see. I asbsolutely don't expect all of that to be made, but now that this is a thing, the doors are essentially opened to the possibilities we may see in the future, even if they take a backseat to the Mesozoic side of things.

I also do hope he doesn't burn himself out with all these projects, but at the same time I think he can handle pacing this all out. He's clearly passonaite about doing all of this, since he made it a full time job (and I imagine thankfully can also afford to do so). I guess time will tell what will also show up in this new line, besides Smilodon.

Definitely not excited about this honestly. We don't even have Hadrosaurs in BoTM OR Cyberzoic and now this is announced?

My fear of BoTM not becoming more diverse has come back again. Now, instead of tooth genera or focusing on just families, it'll be ice age creatures clogging the pipelines.

He'll get me with Terror Birds if he does any, same with early primates like Gigantopithecus or Neandertals. I would go in for a 1/18 scale Dodo though.

Overall I'm worried. Between this and the Beasts Rex's neck giving it a giant hood over the back of the head... it has not been a stellar year.

suspsy

As I said, my foremost desire for the Beasts of the Cenozoic line is Arctotherium angustidens of South America. It is thought to not only have been the largest bear of all time, but possibly the largest mammalian land carnivore of all time. It was bigger and more powerful than its North American relative Arctodus and its closest living relative is the extant spectacled bear, so David Silva could give it a similar colour scheme like in the artwork below if he so desired. It would be an especially cool toy because there would be the option of posing it on all fours or rearing up on hind limbs for intimidation or battle.

Other ideal candidates:

Mammals
-Dire wolf
-Simbakubwa
-Thylacosmilus
-American lion
-Gigantopithecus
-Megaloceros
-Sivatherium
-Doedicurus
-Procoptodon
-Megatherium
-Dwarf elephant
-Platybelodon
-Ambulocetus

Reptiles
-Purussaurus
-Barinasuchus
-Megalania
-Ninjemys

Birds
-Argentavis
-Titanis
-Gastornis

Give me a Basilosaurus, a Purussaurus and a Livyatan and I'm all set!

suspsy

I worry that Livyatan, along with Paraceratherium and any proboscidean bigger than the woolly mammoth is simply too massive to be done at 1:18 scale.

andrewsaurus rex

with still a wealth of Dinosaur subjects to cover, not to mention PRE dinosaur subjects eg postosuchus, dimetrodon, and on and on and on, suffice it to say, David can be a busy boy for the next decade or more, if he is so inclined..

Faelrin

Yeah I think Paraceratherium would definitely be pushing it cost wise at that size. That said, the I-Toy one is pretty close to being 1/18 as it is. Added articulation would surely double the price though if I had to guess. Basilosaurus, Dorudon, Livyatan, Otodus megalodon, etc might all be too big (and expensive for most folks) to be feasible at that scale. Who knows though.

I think other than the confirmed Smilodon, I would guess the woolly mammoth would be the next logical choice, with its popularity and familiarity, if not eventually. It does make me wonder how the trunk would be done though. Articulated like Takara Tomy Ania's, or bendy wire instead? Or perhaps alternate pieces that could be swapped out?

avatar_suspsy @suspsy I like your suggestion of Arctotherium and Simbakubwa (edit: and everything else too). I think I'll add those to my list (as if wasn't already large enough).

Edit: Here's my top ten wants, even though I know anything goes at this point, beyond the confirmed Smilodon:

-Aenocyon dirus/Dire wolf
-Mammuthus primigenius/Woolly mammoth
-Thylacoleo carnifex
-Coelodonta antiquitatis/Woolly rhino
-Doedicurus clavicaudatus
-Megaloceros giganteus
-Paraceratherium transouralicum
-Hyaenodon (any species I guess)
-Daeodon shoshonensis
-any terror bird(s)

Not sure articulated sea creatures would look very good.   And an articulated trunk on a Mammoth?  Yuck.  I wouldn't purchase it.  I understand the appeal of articulation, but surely sometimes it has to take a back seat to the integrity of the sculpt.

Carnoking

I know it's probably a pipe dream but I'd  certainly be keen to see a Livyatan. There may be a few outliers here and there but other than that, I have a hunch that this line will make for a nice respite for my wallet after 4 impressive dinosaur related lines.

Of course your sentiment is perfectly valid, but it's funny, I feel the exact opposite: dinosaurs have been clogging the pipelines of extinct Cenozoic animals or any other extinct non-dinosaurs in model form for way too long 👀

Hyped for this, hoping for a lot of obscure species!

Well said

EmperorDinobot

I want to see primates and anthropoids. In 1/18 scale it should be easy! I mean, a Gigantopithecus can just be 5inches tall, not even Multiverse sized. It's the size of a Power Ranger haha
