I feel relief whenever Mattel announces something I don't want.

Is the light up wound disappointing? Yes. Am I glad this battle damage Ford Explore isn't being packed with yet another extreme chompin' Tyrannosaurus rex? Also yes.

Quote from: Faelrin on November 03, 2022, 09:27:59 PMThanks for the heads up avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp. I'll get the op and Dinotoycollector site updated with this.

Edit: And while the raptor is certainly reminiscent of the Hasbro one, as far as the light up wound feature goes, it isn't the first mainline figure to have such a light up feature. The 2019 Indominus rex did with its throat.

Ok, perhaps I over reacted a bit. It's just that it is such a cheap feture, and permanent wound is something most people don't want. Specially if this carries on to other figures.

And yes, the Indominus had a light up throat, but it wasn't something intrusive like this.

I don't think the light up wound is any worse than the Extreme Damage gashes deeply cut into the side of the toy.

And you say most people but the target demographic here is still children, I think some people forget that.

EmperorDinobot

The problem with the light-up feature is that it is prone to breaking in a few years. Sounds don't. Pretty much ALL of the electronic molds from Hasbro's Jurassic World are all broken. All of them. Especially the Charlie and Delta molds, as well as the Hybrid repaint. The Ceratosaurus are all damaged as well. Dimorphodons are 50/50, and Dilophosaurus seems to be the only survivor. I know because I get a ton of them through my dinosaur hunts. They all use 3 A76 batteries, which are expensive, so it's hard to know now whether these dinosaurs will also be broken very few years from now. Then they become a hassle because nobody wants them.

I do like the dino damaged Explorer though. I hope you can put people in there. I have an extra Explorer from the T.rex escape pack that I was going to smash, but this makes me not want to do that anymore.

Faelrin

While mine are all in storage now, I think their features probably survived (batteries died long ago however), but then again I didn't play with them, and my twin nieces had only done so on a few occasions way back when they were toddlers. I imagine frequent use could wear it out though (or perhaps improper storage conditions). It's got me curious anyways, but like I don't know when again that I'll have them in hand to check them out (and some new batteries). In any case it's certainly an interesting observation you've made there avatar_EmperorDinobot @EmperorDinobot.

I'm honestly debating if I want this set. I suppose it would give me an excuse to have an out of box explorer without the need to buy yet another one of the 2021 sets (although certainly was no shortage of them the last time I checked one of my local Target stores). Honestly aside from a few exceptions (the HC JPIII ones, and the Legacy Kitchen Pack), I'm pretty fatigued on raptors, and don't need more in my collection, especially in such a subpar manner.

And sure while these are intended to be children's toys, I'm pretty sure most fans of the original film are adults by now (if not back when it first came out), so like wouldn't they/us be more of an appropriate target audience? I'd be surprised if this design decision was from the designers that seem to be pretty aware of that fact, and not from some higher ups, desperate for these vehicle sets to sell more.

I was so taken aback by the light up damage that I didn't even notice how sad and pathetic that tail is...

CityRaptor

Rather obviously that set is really about the Exolorer with the Raptor just thrown in because every set needs a Dinosaur. Now if only someone would make Explorer 05 for once. All the large Explorers so far, including the one that is a robot in disguise, are based on 04.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Now I'd be a lot more forgiving about this shameless raptor throw in if that was the case. Totally forgot about that cool poster.

I think this was an attempt at an impermanent wound? Like, it looks like normal skin texture on top that glows red underneath when activated.

It appears that the head sculpt is modeled after the original raptors instead of Blue, which is a step in the right direction. The Dino Damage on the vehicle reminds me of that on the original Jungle Explorer. I think this is the first original Jurassic Park set that I'm going to pass on, given the execution. I would have been more inclined to buy it if it were vehicle 5. Looking forward to Jeep 10 and Ellie, though.

Eatmycar

I really think the Jurassic fandom forgets that kids are the target audience sometimes and that they are a small demographic.

That said, not bad. I'll get for the vehicles to be honest. Most of us don't need or want these raptors, but I certainly would rather a mediocre raptor than a T. rex packed in to drive up the costs more.

YesIAmaDinosaur

I'm def getting the Jeep but the Explorer I think I might have to see the price point or see it in person. I already have two of the ones from the T Rex pack and the numbering is an eye sore as is ha

I'm on the same page as Eatmycar though, ultimately they're kids toys and I don't lose sleep over detail inconsistencies.

The only Carnotaurus I'm waiting for is one for the Hammond Collection.

CityRaptor

Hmm, looking at the Carnotaurus, I would say that stargatedalek is right here:

Honestly I'll probably pick this one up. I like the coloration, and it's pretty close to the 2020 Primal Attack one I never got around to.

Just hoping this wasn't intended to be the so called Extreme Damage version. Was hoping that would be a larger version of the Dominion "demon" one.

Edit: Sorry avatar_stargatedalek @stargatedalek regarding non-permanent battle damage, this is clearly not the case, at least on some of these. See the new JPIII raptor just revealed. Thankfully I'll ignore this one since the superior HC version exists, but well I suppose I appreciate another version getting out there, after how long we went without the JPIII male.
