Quote from: Ludodactylus on February 22, 2023, 11:08:33 PMIt's certainly an eye catching display, especially with a parade of sauropods going down both sides.
Right on that point. That used to be my Battat display area, but presented as a diorama with vegetation and lightweight landscape features. It was very eye catching and persisted for over half a decade, but eventually it was time for a change. Now it's Safaris and Carnegie Safaris. I think that the motivation was to replace something that was doomed to be static with a brand that has room for growth. I display 1/25  to 1/45  figures, with the majority 1/35 to 1/40.

Yes, avatar_TheCambrianCrusader @TheCambrianCrusader , that Diplo is a brute of a figure, it even features as a display item in JP 1 on the field office's shelf. Perspective does make a difference, but it is huge. They sure don't make 'emike that anymore.

Terra by Battat Amargasaurus arrived today:

My wife is not a fan. Upon seeing the wide yellow eyes on the factory paint app, she immediately responded with "He looks like that crazy robot from Futurama!"

And you know what? I can see it.

In fact, now I'm not sure I can unsee it.

These creatures' popularity grows each year, partly because of the recent resurgence of dinosaur movies, but also because a skeleton of a full-sized Tyrannosaurus rex still has the ability, even 65 million years after its death, to chill us to the bone." - Ray Harryhausen

After a bit of hiatus in collecting (due to a combination of feeling like my collection was outgrowing the space I had for it, and just focusing on other hobbies for a time), I added a couple more sauropods - CollectA's 2018 Brontosaurus and 2011 Ampelosaurus. Brontosaurus is just an absolutely stunning figure, which I like a lot more than Safari's most recent Apatosaurus, and Ampelosaurus has a peacefulness to it that I really like.

I also found a figure I'd forgotten I had - the Terra by Battat Carnotaurus. I put him aside a while back because I wanted to spend some time with a heat gun to adjust his legs to stand more steadily, and forgot about him in a drawer for a while. Now he's back and ready to join the display.

Since Battat's Amargasaurus is three years older, it's the other way round: "That crazy robot looks like Amargasaurus!" ;D .

I wonder, if I'd gotten the Battat Amargasaurus in the original paint scheme instead of this brown and orange coloration, if she'd have drawn the same comparison?

Realized I never posted these here; not toys, but my wife bought me a pair of signed William Stout art books for our anniversary last November:

Even cooler, Mr. Stout sketched a Styracosaurus inside the murals book for me!

I'd met Mr. Stout previously, in 2010 at Chiller Theatre in New Jersey, though the books I'd bought from him then were lost in a basement flood. He was a really pleasant person to chat with, and remains my favorite living paleo artist.

What a fantastic anniversary present from your wife! You also now have original William Stout artwork as a super bonus!

He sounds like a really nice guy.

Halichoeres

What a great gift! And a bit of original art, to boot.

Thank you both. We maintain wishlists for each other that we add items to throughout the year, for the other to pick from for birthdays, anniversary, etc. I had asked for the prehistoric murals book, but the sketchbook (and the original art) took me a bit by surprise, and very pleasantly so.

avatar_Crackington @Crackington he absolutely was. He'd been put in a side conference room in the hotel where Chiller Theatre was being held, and had sketchbooks spread across probably 7/8ths of the central conference table. I spent about ten minutes chatting with him about Edgar Rice Burroughs and Charles Knight.

My first figure purchase of 2024 and my first Haolonggood figure - the stunning Dicraeosaurus.

The cat is not terribly impressed.

Indeed, I bet it isn't as passionate about dinosaurs as we are.

To be fair, he makes that face at anything that isn't chicken-flavored.

And very nice ones too. Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday and congrats to the fab 3, especially the Chasmosaurus. Charming little Ceratopsian.
I have them myself and I like it a lot

Thank you! I've been a fan of Chasmosaurus since the 90s, when I built the Tamiya kit. Very happy to have one in my toy collection now. And my wife can't get enough of how cute and "bitty" it is.

I was surprised at how small the Euoplocephalus/Scolosaurus is! Like I knew abstractly that Ankylosaurus was the biggest known ankylosaur, and that most of the "ankylosaurus" figures I had as a kid were based on Euoplocephalus, so I guess I always assumed Euoplocephalus was the next largest and was like 80-85% the size of Ankylosaurus. But both of these guys can stand comfortably on the back of my PNSO Ankylosaurus.

In case of Euoplocephalus: So am I when I saw the "Dinos & Dragons" Review.
I also grew up with the thought, that it was just a little smaller than Ankylosaurus.

Same was with Chasmosaurus or as I call it Charismasaurus. It was so small in comparison with Pachyrhinosaurus and Triceratops. But it is cool to have it in the same scale as the most of my recent received models (PNSOs T-Rexes, HLG Apato and Edmontonia for example).

A couple new ceratopsians arrived today:

Gina saw the sale at Happy Hen Toys and decided to surprise me with a few figures she knew I was eyeing.
