Nanmu is looking for artists to help them make accurate dinosaurs

Paleofiguras posted on Facebook the following (translated to English):

Quote#Nanmu | Figures with Scientific Reconstruction. (Call)
Recently posted that they are willing to work with some artists or get their permission to produce scientific models of dinosaurs.
If you know someone you can recommend them or if you are one you can introduce yourself.
It's not mandatory for the artist to work in 3D, they would take care of the three-dimensionalized.
Good initiative, I guess the difficulty they have always faced in this area is that they lack the required knowledge to do the reconstructions themselves, because theirs — it is more than proven — is better to reproduce what has already been done.

This is the Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/Paleofiguras/posts/pfbid0k7juTANejRWHSLN1qpJHREX2D2BjvzVLFdXwinzxXktaYGvG1vL1wy5xZbns6EZkl?locale=en_GB

Is there something on IG.
And the segment regarding if the artist is not 3d oriented can also apply
"It's not mandatory for the artist to work in 3D, they would take care of the three-dimensionalized."

Oh thanks.  I don't use Instagram so I don't know if there's anything on there.  I think it would be great if Nanmu made accurate dinosaurs as their production quality is very good from what I've seen.  It also can only be good if companies move away from the Jurassic franchise and focus on making real dinosaurs instead imo.

Sounds great, but I'm sure if they'll make accurate dinos it would be same trite pack of species: Tyrannosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus etc, while more underrepresented genera should get ones.

Well, the image that was included in the Facebook post is of Shunosaurus, which I think was made in resin by Nanmu before they started with all the movie monster figures.  They also made a Yangchuanosaurus in resin early on.  So I hope Nanmu will make some needed species.

Plasantly surprised Nanmu is mulling over moving past Jurassic Park knock-offs! Their alternate colors for the Jurassic designs are usually good - I wonder what they'll cook up for actual animals!

Pliosaurking

If there scientifically accurate figures are the quality of their JP inspired figures, oh boy... I'm going to go broke! Their Limted edition Dragon soul Spinosaurus is still my favourite figure in my collection, so I'm very excited to see what they do in the near future! Also I'm curious about that soon upcoming sale...any word on anything about it?

As I said in another thread.

The first person I tagged was

David Krentz.

However I did bring the subject up to a member of this forum, who is a good sculpter, and has a youtube Channel ;)

They did make a pretty awesome Giganotosaurus as well.

Honestly. I hope that they return to PVC models like what they started with, if they do go through with this.    But it seems highly breakable resin sold for a very limited time is what the folks have been craveing ::)

I don't understand the reasoning myself, resin = high value, PVC = cheap junk , it's just...odd. Both can have a lot of detail.

If they really are interested in making scientifically accurate figures, I hope they'll be rigorous with their research and really offer scientifically accurate figures, not non-Jurassic Park-inspired figures, because they're not necessarily the same. That said, if they actually want to go with the former, then I'll have to start considering them, which is something I've never done yet. Plenty of amazing artists to choose from, too.

It is not that simple. Obviously the PVC models have the strong advantage that they are not so fragile and have a low risk of breaking. This also very much reduces the risks of shipping damage. But of course PVC may be affected by warping over time. Conversely, resin (including 3D printed resin) is not affected by warping. And some people say that fine surface details and fine structures (like spikes etc.) would in general not be as crisp for PVC models than they would be for resin models. But my impression with the recent releases from PNSO and Haolonggood is that this is not much of an issue any more. These companies have somehow perfected the molding process of PVC to such a level that very fine surface structures can now be produced. So I would favor now PVC over resin if I have the choice.

Resin ,especially really thin parts can warp after being removed from a mold. I've heated parts of resin kits to get them back into place too. I do agree, just look at the detail we have, even Nanmu, those teeth are fantastic, that they can do as well las any resin kit now.

Mattyonyx

Between this announcement, Rebor's recent works, W-Dragon's Stan, and Haoolonggood being open to suggestions from the paleo-community, one thing is clear: paleontological accuracy is steadily becoming a commercial factor for the dinosaur model business. A company that usually predates the most popular franchises now willing to produce scientific models (without having the knowledge) is a clear signal of the changing times and we all should question the genuinity of this choice.

Joel1905

Might not be the right place to post, but I'm in need of the rest of the Nanmu human figurines, specifically as follows:

Alan Grant (JP & JP3 versions)
Ellie Sattler
Sarah Harding
Roland Tembo
Owen Grady
Henry Wu
ACU Soldier

Also the fish that comes with the Baryonyx and the He-Man that comes with the Giganotosaurus

Happy to negotiate prices!
