Quote from: CityRaptor on April 21, 2024, 12:31:49 AMYou know, they are probably as healthy now as they were 36 years ago...
LOL ... you may be totaly right - as some of those poisonous 'E' materials have been dissolved and soften over the years ...

BrontoScorpio

Just remembered I left this old huge kit, I got while back, unassembled :

All there is are 4 flippers -

Looks tasty from above :

Wonderful Pirarucu ( ピラルク ) /Arapaima HEADLONG Resin kit by Shinya Akao (  赤尾慎也 ) - my favorite 'prehistoric' fish :

I decided to keep it loose on the driftwood-like base

Next to my Kaiyodo AQUALAND ceramic Pirarucu :

The 'Trims Japan' ( トリムスジャパン )  completed painted finished model version :

It was released in small numbers for a short period of time :

BrontoScorpio

One eBay seller had sold some old small resin kits - I own none -

But I did get this one :
Action Hobbies Velociraptor by Dave Cockrum from the early 90's -

Sadly, it is of poore quality in every aspect you could think of - so I put it in the warehouse where it belongs for the time being -
Maybe some day it will have some historic value ...

But it is not something you could say of my other prize of a Resin kit -

Acrocanthosaurus Resin kit by jerry Finney of Finney Studios -

All assembled now :

Comes with a display stand -

Fits nicely -

I wonder why would the tail be of a different color -

What a peculiar thing is to have the tongue as a separate piece that needs to be inserted and glued inside ...

Should I use the display stand  or not ? ...

As most Acrocanthosaurs models - it has a robust torso -

Unlike the ferocious and agile David Silva's Acro. -

Next do my Dan LoRusso's Allosaurus -

And last - here's a painted version I found online -

BrontoScorpio

Another seller had also listed many vintage Resin kits - which I have failed to get.
You can see here some Shane foulkes old works along with Trcic,  David Krentz, Thomas R Dickens, Anthony Tony McVey, Charlie McGrady and more.

I was able to get neither of the above as seller listed the items with a relatively low 'Buy it now' option - and thay were snatched almost immediately.
also international shipping option with GSP was wrongly set with hundreds of $$$.
One more Resin kit I did not get that raised my curiosity was this Spinosaurus kit, which I was unable to identify.
Does anyone have a clue ?

I did, however, got a hold of these four  kits.
I'm not fully sure - but I think these are Charlie McGrady of CM Studio Resin kit Dinosaurs
( Spinosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Coelophysis and Diplodocus )

BrontoScorpio

I got my hands on a  fifth Resin kit from this seller as well - As I was lucky to notice it as soon as it was listed -
and immediately snatched it -

And here they are - all 5 kits have finally arrived:

Unlike the previous 4 - this one is of a different maker :
'Lunar Models' Postosuchus vs. Desmatosuchus Cast kit by Thomas R Dickens (?) - seeing here from a pic of the finished scene I found online -

Put the other 4 away for the time being - and naturally started with this one -

spread all parts on the table -

The legs attachment places are not well distinct -

So, Initially it was hard to guess which leg belongs where ...

The Display diorama is much bigger than I expected it to be -

And my Triassic scene is ready now :

The ferocious looking Postosuchus and the well armed Desmatosuchus -

The Desmatosuchus is taller and long legged than with other models I have -

Maybe that is why the Desmatosuchus is wallowing in the mud - whereas the Postosuchus is being given the higher ground ...

Front view -  as they assess each other -

I decided to loose the Diorama - too much space on the shelf ...

Notice how the Postosuchus holds one leg in the air -

I really like the detailed patterns on the Desmatosuchus' back -

I think these too might also be good friends ...

With some of my other 'suchus' creatures -

Schleich, Cog/Tedco , Linde, Panini, Starlux, Marx, Toyway WWD, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Safari, Bullyland :

These two newcomers are definately my biggest -

RE: Post 795, I still have your brown pleisiosaur and dimetrodon set aside for you somewhere.

RE: Gashapon dinos, I saw these in Japan this month and immediately thought of you. Glad you got some.

I also saw a coelecanth in a bag at hobby off.
Now showing: The Lost World (1925)

My collection is here

Yes, sorry about that - must have turned the page on the subject in my mind.
Anyway - I now miss the 2 non-dinosaurs - Plesiosaur & Pterosaur

Quote from: Fossilized-Rubber on April 29, 2024, 03:13:52 AMRE: Gashapon dinos, I saw these in Japan this month and immediately thought of you. Glad you got some.

LOL ... It always nice to know ppl are thinking of you - even if it's only just DTF ... :)

Quote from: Fossilized-Rubber on April 29, 2024, 03:13:52 AMI also saw a coelecanth in a bag at hobby off.
That coelecanth could be many things - is it like one of mine ?

I got this Resin kit for quite some time and didn't know what it was :

Even asked here once - but with no luck.
Later on, when I saw some other stuff, I thought It resembled the looks of Shane Foulkes kits, especially his first discontinued works, that are unavailable on the net,
with its unique joints and Display stand.
But, I still was not sure

Unlike my old Japanese resins - this one, in particular, but come to think of it, most other western Resins, has a 'foamy' touch to it , and more over, it is hollow inside -
It is not as dense , heavy and 'expensive' feels like ...
I guess it is another  later technique that is uesd to save the amount of material used.
so, it weighs about a third of what an equivalent sized old Resin piece would have :

Anyway, I thought it is about time this one is to be built up -

You would have thought the designated joints between the torso and the legs and arms will make it fast and easy -
but, on the contrary - the matching proved to be much harder - as the pieces did not fit, unless being much altered and sanded :

Being so relatively light weight, I found it was easy to balance it on it's special display stand, without any glueing or other attachments -

At almost 60 cm it looks to me like some 1/15 Alosauroid or saurophaganax -

But I had my doubts ...

And just as I thought I would never solve the mistery -
I unintentionally came accross this one, at the Dinosaur Dungeon on FB -
I was part right - it is Shane Foulkes' Deltadromeus

I think mine looks much fiercer this way as unpainted -
But maybe it would be one of my first attempts of practicing in coloring - as I would not dare as of yet, touching any of my rare kits.

As the comparisson shots with some of my Allosaurids were already done - I would not replace them at this stage ...

The 1/20 Kaiyodo Allosaurus, is more in size with this giant -

BrontoScorpio

Next big 'Western' Resin kit is a real jem :

Huge 1994 TYRANNOSAURUS REX Resin Kit by special effects artist Bill Wieger -

comes with a signed (and notarized!) Certificate of Authenticity -

I was surprized to find it in my 30 y/o 1996 Monstrosities Catalog ( The distributor of Kaiyodo in the USA during the mid 90's )

It also include a fairly simple sandy base -

And 6 other parts -

Now all built up - right side -

and left side -

weighing 2 kg without the base -

Adding the base -

At this point I am reluctant on gluing the legs to the display base - so I used a clear/ice plastic cube for support -

This is realy a massive piece -

The hip structure is  very broad -

And the chest is indeed very deep -

... It looks like it has just swallowed a whole Trike ...

The head is massive and well defined :

And jaws are tightly closed - like in some other rare statues I really like ( g.Wenzel & D. Krentz Gorgozaurus , S. Foulkes Torvosaurus v1, etc. ) -

As it turned towards you from its left side -

and then from the right side -

And now you really are in trouble - as it zooms in  for the kill ...

A comparison  shot with some well known T-rexes -

Only this one in my collection really manages to dwarf it - the Tsukuda Hobby JP 1/12 T-rex

But Bill Wieger's kit is mach heavier -

BrontoScorpio

Yet Some more coins or medals :

Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum ( 福井県立恐竜博物館 ) Commemorative Medal (  記念メダル ) Chahei Industry ( 茶平工業  ) -

The other side :

Chahei Industry ( 茶平工業  ) Fukui Prefecture ( 福井県  ) Hakusan Dinosaur Park ( 白山恐竜パーク ) white mountain ( 白峰  ) commemorative medal (  記念メダル )

As in previous cases - this particular trike is used again and again in different occasions -

Same fronts - different behinds ...

My coins collection is growing -

BrontoScorpio

Just got last saturday some time to deal with this old acquizition from more than a year ago -
so I am reposting this again as a prelude for what is to come :

trying to remember my first steps Watching back how it all began in 2014, I realized I did not buy dinosaurs from any western online retail store for about 8 years.
Just piled up some stock during my first few months of collection - and from there it's Vintage collectibles only.
so, it is time to catch up with some selected items from 2015 to 2022.

I just received 3 orders, one after the other, from MPV :

15 Dinosaurs by CollectA :

7 Dinosaurs by Schleich :

Along with 7 Dinosaurs by Safari :

And 3rd - 11 Dinosaurs by Papo :

Pouring the content on the floor :

I have no time right now to reorganize my display shelves with those new Acquisitions.
When I do - I'll take some pics ...

BrontoScorpio

Finally, at last, I went into my storage and took all 40 out of their Nylon cases -

CollectA 88910 - Kamuysaurus

I did not think I will buy any more of this sort after my initial stock pile almost 10 years ago -
but these 15 looked so nice and colorful

Now, to the daunting task of finding shelf space for them all -
Finally I decided to add an improvised top shelf above the left & right cabinets -

Schleich & Safari ltd. Dinosaurs - Above my old Schleich shelf - on the left cabinet -

Papo Dinosaurs - Above my other old Schleich shelf - on the right cabinet -

And while I'm at it - Here's my old Schleich Replica-Saurus shelf -

And the CollectA Dinosaurs - pushed them somehow to another cabinet ...

SidB

Very impressive, avatar_BrontoScorpio @BrontoScorpio . I'm tempted to extract my old Schleich, Papo and CollectA's from storage too. Plenty of pleasant memories twine themselves around these figures. But, of course, space issues abound and my PNSO, HLG, Vitae figures have usurpted these on my diorama shelves. Still , tempting.

BrontoScorpio

Thanks,
I didn't even start with those intimidating big soulless chinese figures ( Namnu, W-Dragon, HLG, Itoy, etc. ) -
Aside from some nice small PNSO & Vitea - so, one problem less to worry about ...
More space for those with character ...
But that is really a matter of individual preference ...

BrontoScorpio

Finally got the time to unpack these - so I'm forwarding my old post :

The Spoils of war -  Just about 15.5 kg pile of loot ...

The aftermath of my Rollercoaster adventure at "The June Carnage on YAJ" ( 2023 )  :

Some $$$$ worth of Dinosaur Resin kits :

Some I have already introduced -

And some will follow shortly here after -

BrontoScorpio

First, is a large box  with two Pliosaurs inside -
the writing says プレシオサウルス - Plesiosaurus :

The big one needs some sanding and its lower jaw be assembled.

The smaller one needs only its neck to be connected :

There it is :

What a marvelous Resin model that is :

All 4 flippers from above :

And the fine skin details from under :

The sharp scarry teeth -

I could not find it in any Kaiyodo Catalog -
because this is a special edition by Araki Kazunari -
an 1993 1/10 Plesiosaurus ( プレシオサウルス ) Resin Model ( レジン 模型 ) by Araki Kazunari ( 荒木一成 )
Here, from some of his books for children :

Dan Lorusso claims it to be a 1/20 Futabasaurus - and at about 35 cm - I think he is right.

I found it also in the 96' Monstrosities ( The Kaiyodo USA Distributor ) Catalog, But the scale is never mentioned here :

But now, I can reconstruct the dual picture from above - with my Horizon Vinyl Elasmosaurus -

And with its Desktop polystone model type - also by Horizon -

And, at last, I can have the two Kaiyodo 1/20 pliosaurs pic -
with my Shinobu Matsumora Kaiyodo DINOLAND 1/20 Vinyl Elasmosaurus ( エラスモサウルス )

Long I have been longing to reconstruct this Mythical exhibition pic of these two  -

As for the smaller one :

with a Round belly and long neck -

This one appears in more than one Kaiyodo Catalog - from 1985 - By Araki Kazunari
It is said to be 1/35 scale - but it looks to me much smaller -

And is sold after different names :
- Futabasuzuki Ryu ( フタバスズキ リュウ )
- Futabasuzuki Dragon ( フタバスズキ 竜 )

Here - in an Araki children book as フタバスズキ リュウ 'Futaba suzuki' - which was later renamed as Futabasaurus

And of course - Don Glut has one - painted in black -

My two Kaiyodo Futabasaurus - along with the Science museum capsule Futabasaurus -

And with the Kaiyodo DINOLAND 1:100 scale Elasmosaurus

All my Kaiyodo mini Plesiosaurs
- with also the Chocolasaurus DINOTALES  7 and the Capsule museum color variant

Araki made a third 'Plesiosaurus' ( プレシオサウルス ) resin model of 1/35 scale - but I don't have it

Don Glut obviously have it - in his foul website ...

BrontoScorpio

Next Kit -

I can spot a Velociraptor and a Protoceratops laying -

A 10 parts kit -

I got this one loose - but the box in this case would look like that -
Velociraptor vs Protoceratops ( ヴェロキラプトルvsプロトケラトプス )
Kaiyodo Resin Cast Kit - Type II - by Araki  Kazunari ( There is a Type I ... ) from arround 1990.
Dan Lorusso claims it to be a 1/5 scale.

I'm not sure if the rods pinned inside the casts are originals or not - I think they are -

At first, I assembled all 4 arms and legs -

And then tried attaching the animal to the base at all 4 points -

But it has proven to be the wrong way to do it -
as they didn't fit -
some were to close and some had a big gap between them and the attaching point.

So, I had to break them up - and attaching every leg one by one -
both to the Velociraptor body and to the base -
starting with the two hind legs :

And there it is  - finally done -

The left arm was the most difficult to fit -

It's a difficult task - when all attachment points are just a flattened surface -

But, maybe I could have done a better job in this case - but just maybe -

In any case, The Raptor looks very ferocious and hungry -

The Protoceratops, on the other hand, is just laying still -
we used to see Protoceratops fighting back, but this one is at the mercy of the Raptor -

Maybe it is dead ???

In the Monstrosities ( Kaiyodo Distributor to USA ) 96' Catalog -
It is referred as 'Feasting Raptor' - so it seems the poor Proto is doomed  -

I hope not, as it looks incredibly cute - like a baby elephant - I really feel sorry for him -

I already gotten a finished model in  the past -

But there's nothing better than an untainted kit - And if you want color it at your own will

Compared with some other raptors -

BrontoScorpio

Next Kit -

Kaiyodo 'Saichania' 1/20 Resin Garage Kit by Kazunari Araki from 1993 .
( 海洋堂  サイカニア  1/20 レジン ガレージキット 荒木一成  1993 )

Believed to be limited to less than 50 units,  7 Parts in total -

I really like the main torso part - how the Resin takes up the fleshy body -

The under belly has sort of depression, somewhat reminding me the bottom side of a turtle -

All builtup now -

A dimmer light emphasizes the fine skin details

Total length of 30 cm -

The dimmer light version -

I was afraid after I finish assembling all 4 legs that I find the figure to be swinging - but it stands firm on all four -

With a finished version I got years ago -

Next to the 1/20 Alucard Euoplocephalus -

And with the Kaiyodo DINOLAND 1/20 Vinyl Ankylosaurus -

There's an interestin suggestion for a color scheme I found -

And a professionally painted by the artist himself at Tokyo Hands in Nagoya Station - out for sale several years ago -

BrontoScorpio

Next Kit -

An ellaborate array of big and small parts - some parts are glued in groups - and a Diorama display stand with the marking 'Velociraptor mongoliensis' -

After cleaning and seperating all small parts -
I really fear small fingers and claws - they have a tiny attachment surface to hold on to the other part -

The big parts, on the other hand, have special pins and sockets -

You can see the special sockets between the legs and main torso -

And 3 ( Three !!! ) sockets just for the tail -

well, that is understandable given how big this tail is - here from above -

you can see how lush and full of feathers it is -

so does the other side - This indeed is a  really high quality piece -

It is almost as it is too feathery for comfort - one might wonder will the animal not be burden by such a heavy tail -

It makes you remember back the story of the unfortunate Gertrude McFuzz by Dr. seuss -

Finally, all built up -

Laying next to its Display stand -

At last, stands here in full view :

Griffon Enterprises - Master Fossile - Life Model Series -  Velociraptor - Feathered Ver. - Garage Kit - by Kinichi Mashima
グリフォンエンタープライズ  -  - ライフモデルシリーズ - ヴェロキラプトル  - 羽毛Ver - ガレージキット - 真島欽一

The Model was said to have been due to be released back in 2013 - according to this 2013 WONDER FESTIVAL ( ワンダーフェスティバル2013 )  publication -
But, as later I have found - there were publication this model is due to come out as early as 2001 -

Along with some other creatures - introduced a year before -
But, according to a known blog - an array of models was planned as early as 2002 - including a wonderful Carnotaurus -

Like the Velociraptor skeleton - I suspect all these were intended be implemented as Vinyl models -
like the ( fortunately only ) well known ghastly Griffon Tyrannosaurus rex -  how Hideous is he ...

But, no Vinyl models were ever issued - and I suspect a few master prototypes were left behind as 'Phantom' kits -

The seller himelf is stating :
"Purchased at a Griffon store in Yokohama a long time ago, This is a very valuable garage kit from the now defunct Griffin Enterprises."
I'm not sure when he mentioned "this line went out of business" does it refer just to this prehistoric creatures line or beyond -
But that explains why even as I have seen the publication years ago - and was never been able to see one put on sale - except this one ...

Seeing the fine detailed feathers made with top Resin  - It makes you wonder what a professional paintup artist could make of that -
Other than the shades of red, shown few pictures back on the prototype master -
I immediately thought of the 3D Printed  Polyurethane made DakotaRaptor which exhibited this year - and what fine, even marvelous, paint schemes it got -
Even though Not as detailed as a Resin cast can achieve -

At a front glance - looks ferocious  as it charges with wide open claws and gaping mouth -

I Couldn't bring myself to drill a hole into the body for the attached rod between the body and the display stand -

These two disposable cups have proven to be just at the right height for the task -

Next to the feathery Favorite Desktop Deinonychus -

I'm sure this one would win - if there ever be a fight between these two ...

Crackington

Amazing model avatar_BrontoScorpio @BrontoScorpio and the Dr Seuss comparison made me chuckle!

It looks a real challenge to paint though - it would be way beyond my limited skills. Probably be worth sending to a pro I think...
