Blade-of-the-Moon

Received my pterosaurs from Minizoo yesterday, already added to the park.

How do they hold up outdoors avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon? Do you bring them in during the off season? Obviously not these particular models, you just got them, but I image that you've done this with past CollectA pterosaurs.

I think 90% of them are fine? I hit them with a clear matte spray paint once a year and they are outside 365. Only the one Guidraco on our front gate in the direct sun year round seems to have faded and his wings wilted a bit.  I have 2-3 of each one they have made so far aside from the ones in my personal indoor collection. Some in the park I have modified to get slightly different poses out of them..usually the head/neck.

avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon , They look nice on those branches! Hopefully they don't attack the visitors like Jurassic World's Pteranodons and Dimorphodons or gotta keep them in an aviary!

It's more an issue that guests bother them lol

Maybe a bit off topic, but avatar_Blade-of-the-Moon @Blade-of-the-Moon what kind of tree is that?

As far as I know it's a type of cedar local to our region. We have a few here, they tend to get smothered though by faster growing poplars. This one is a bit of an oddball in how it's grown, bending to try and get the light where it can.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you!

Minizoo has the rest of CollectA 2024 in.

Funny that although I have an email alert in place from MiniZoo, I noticed this post first. Placerias incoming!

Expect three 2024 CollectA reviews between July 15th and August 15th.  ;)

I ordered the Placerias too! And Nanuqsaurus!

For US buyers, with the conversion rate of US vs Australian dollars, buying from Minizoo is likely less expensive than any US seller. I ordered the Dreadnoughtus, Nanuqsaurus and Placerias for $56 total including shipping to Colorado.

I am in the US and I buy all my new CollectA from Minizoo. It is cheaper with the AUD-USD conversion, but also it's more reliable. CollectA has a weird relationship with the US market (I think avatar_SBell @SBell knows better) and not everything CollectA releases becomes readily available in the US.

Yeah, I don't rely on Minizoo for Haolonggood, PNSO, Eofauna, or even Safari, but when it comes to CollectA, they really are the best option.

It's been many years, but the short version is CollectA did a North America exclusivity agreement for distribution with a company that is mostly horse focused (I think they also do Breyer). Prehistoric, wildlife, etc was lower priority for them, so they're probably slower to bring in the newest releases.

Dejankins used to get them through a European dealer, but CollectA stepped in on that, threatening to stop selling to the European dealers if they wholesaled to North America. Dejankins still brings them in (or at least lists them) but not sure how

I think it's the reason Dan's Dinosaurs CollectA lineup is pretty behind as well

I used to buy through Minizoo, but I've switched to buying through Everything Dinosaur. I very rarely buy CollectA these days, only the giant pterosaurs for customizing and sometimes the toobs for small animals for dioramas or scenes.

I honestly don't buy much of anything anymore, but I generally go with MiniZoo since I usually want modern animals too.

Halichoeres

I try really hard not to order anything international. I buy my PNSO and Haolonggood from Happy Hen, and Safari is pretty easy to get in the States. But I too buy my CollectA from Minizoo.

Placerias, Polacanthus and Diprotodon figures are out.....at least at Mini Zoo.

The Diprotodon figure seems a bit small to me.   Quoted dimensions are 8 inches long and just 3 inches high.  If so, that's more like 1/24 scale in height than 1/20.

However, the dimensions don't make sense.  The figure's shoulder height is half the length.  So either it's 8 inches by 4 inches or it's 6 inches by 3 inches.   Anyone know which it is?

I'll be disappointed if it's that small.

Placerias and Polacanthus figures seem fine for 1/20 scale.....Pola is a bit big in fact.
