Quote from: Quiversaurus on June 29, 2024, 12:42:22 PMFinally watched DinosDragons' review. It's cemented my decision to get the green version, cause in this review, somehow, it looks more blue-green than green-green, as I thought before.

Are you talking about Classic or Blue variant? I think only Fruit variant has mix of green-blue, teal color on half of its skin.

Dusty Wren

Happy Hen Toys just got the Mamenchisaurus, Euoplocephalus, Chasmosaurus, and Edmontosaurus in stock, if anyone (besides me) was waiting to order from them. I was hoping they'd get the Maiasaura in at the same time, but it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer for that one.
Check out my customs thread!

First review for Diabloceratops

I do not understand from where he takes his sizes estimates leading him to conclude that the model would be way too small. From what I read, the skull has been found in a rather complete state, but not much of the post-cranial skeleton. That has been filled in from Xenoceratops and Centrosaurus. The length estimates in the skeletal shown below range up to 4.5 meters, which would make the 12 cm sized Haolonggood model pretty much spot on 1:35 scale.

Yes, the more complete specimen should be preferred for scale, in which case you could argue the figure is actually too large. We don't know how the horns changed with larger size.

Was hoping to see a comparison with the PNSO Machairoceratops.

Let me guess: That poor woman is trying to keep up with your budget and man telling you you stop  buying new stuff already and convince you to seek help for addicton.  ;D

This is one of the best pics of the toy btw. This is how i imagine my stegosaurus going through at customs right now.

No such help for me lol  The good news is I rarely buy without selling enough to do it, so things leave so other things take their place. :)  I can't imagine if I kept everything I've ever bought.

lol it sorta feels that way..gonna need a lot more customs agents to handle a package this size though!  ;D

I just got these figures delivered yesterday, the people came from the Tyrannosaurus research set.  They work pretty great with any dino though.

I would just like to say I'm grateful Haolonggood corrected the position of the tail spikes on the Stegosaurus, it really does make the figure better!

Were they vertical?!

Sim

No, they were placed too ahead of the tail tip.

Diabloceratops review video by Dinos Dragons. Including a useful discussion about general frill morphology of ceratoposians.

Absolutely beautiful models. I love the coloration on both versions.

ceratopsian

I now have the dark version of Diabloceratops.  The photos I've seen so far fail to capture the subtlety of the paint scheme and its application.

This picture was apparently displayed at an exhibition. I think this is a resin model of the Amargasaurus. Unfortunately it appears that they have not been able to correct the sail. Probably the molds were already completed when the catalogue page with the herbivores for 2024 was published.

I would love it if the upcoming Saichania was done up in blue as its primary colour as opposed to simply highlights. Got plenty of brown, green, and reddish ankylosaurs now, but nary a blue one.

I just got the Diabloceratops, the yellow version. Some observations.

1) The sculpt in my view is very good and most importantly the surface texture is now perfect. Not too grainy but also not completely flat. Furhermore, the figure looks very crisp, which was not really the case with some of the previous figures which in places showed a texture that looked a bit molten. It appears that they have been able to optimize the molding process.

2) There is no seam line whatsoever, not even a well concealed one. The entire figure has been produced in one piece. Already the Chamsosaurus did not shows a visible seam line any more, but if you looked close you could see that head and body were separate parts glued together, but the way the connection was placed did conceal it completely. So this is a major step forward.

3) The figure is more slender than Chasmosaurus and Kosmoceratops which were much bulkier at approximately the same size, in particular the Kosmoceratops. As there are virtually no post-cranial remains of Diabloceratops, I would be curious to know based on which information Haolonggood designs this aspect of a figure. Most skeletal reconstructions show the animal along the axis of elongation and provide little information on the third dimension.

4) The paint design looks much more natural and complex in hand than what the promotional images would suggest. There are nice color gradients between the dorsal and ventral side of the figure and the striping pattern is nicely worked in with transitions rather than then sharp stripes that some earlier figures would show. The green-blue highlights on the frill look much more natural in hand than how they appeared in the promotional images.

5) The epiparietal horns and the brow horns have a color that is distinctly different from the main body color tones, which highlights nicely that they are keratinized parts.

6) There is even some texture on the underside of the hands and feet which is a remarkable detail for such a small figure.

Taken together, I would say that the Diabloceratops is better than the Chasmosaurus and on the same level or even a bit better than the Kosmoceratops which for me so far was the best ceratopsian that Haolonggood has produced.
