Quote from: crazy8wizard on October 01, 2024, 07:06:53 PMDo you pronounce it as "maw-no-LOW-fuh-soar-us" or "muh-NAW-luff-uh-soar-us"
mono-lopho-saur-us

Except mono and lopho aren't phoneticized, they aren't one syllable, and there's no stresses. You just wrote out the name again.
for anglicized
/ˌmɒnoʊˌlɒfoʊˈsɔːrəs/

i pronounce monolopho like "mo-no-lo-fo" or sometimes fo>>pho. Vowel qualities like spanish.
Moe-no-low-foe then saurus

The one with the pompadour!

I tend to latinize/neutralize all dinosaur names when I say them because that's how I learned them. But Deinonychus is very hard for me to say. I've heard it pronounced in at least 6 different ways.

Anyways, I need to restart my Schleich search again, but some poor woman got punched on the year at one I sort of frequent, the only one that never got rid of the Schleich.

I'm also saving up to get the volcano and the JW looking playset for my grand design. Might get the Revenge of the Sith volcano playset to go along with it, too.

I say Deeny-on-kuss. 😎

I've always used "Die-nawh-nick-us".

crazy8wizard

I think the proper way to say it is die-NAW-nuh-cuss but I also hear dino-nye-cuss pretty often too, which sounds just as correct.

EmperorDinobot

That's how I kind of pronounce it, but more latinized.

Dei NO Nee Kus

GojiraGuy1954

for that one I say Die-no-nike*-us

*like 'bike'

I tend to default to "die-NAW-nee-cuss" because it better reflects how "ónykhos/όνυχος" is pronounced in Greek, but I'll also ocassionally use "die-no-NYE-cuss" if it flows better in the sentence.
I wouldn't say one is more 'correct' than the other, language and pronounciation is often shaped by use, but the former has more basis in the original Greek words that make up the genus name. Of course, words from other languages have their pronounciations shifted in all sorts of ways, so that's not the end-all-be-all of the conversation, just a personal preference.

The new Monster Toy Blog seems the best new home for all Schleich Products. Not alone the Stone and Ice Variations which are presented here. Even the Dinosaurs of Schleich looks since the last years more like a monster and not so much like an animal  ;)
There are some candidates more from other manufacturers.

Pachyrhinosaurus

It looks like Schleich now has a create-your-own-creature activity at New York's FAO Schwarz where you can add patterns to a select few figures.

Unfortunately it looks like its exclusive to in-store customers only.

Yeah, that probably explains some of the pictures Andy's Dinosaur Reviews showed in two of his videos, with one showing a tiger pattern, while another showed a rainbow fish pattern on the Trike.

In a shocking twist of events, the Schleich Dilophosaurus doesn't suck! In fact, I quite like it...

We have a new shot of the Carcharodontosaurus, too

Yes, me too; it has an appeal to it.
