Quote from: Blade-of-the-Moon on September 10, 2024, 03:37:45 PMMaybe the jaw just isn't closed all the way? I could see some tyrannosaurs with gnarly teeth that did stick out.

Suddenly, I am reminded of the super nice lady that runs the local EZ-Stop after midnight... not sure why God felt she needed that many teeth, or that they should all point in different directions...

I have noticed something about Showanna that relates to this, actually.

They make dirty dinosaurs. Their stuff ain't clean. Look at a PNSO dinosaur. That is what a dinosaur would look like in a zoo, perfect skin, no wounds, no parasites, no dust baths, no muddy feet. Showanna seems to make busted up brutes that LOOK like they live the life of an apex predator in the wild.

I feel like they are heavily influenced by David Krentz especially his work for sideshow.

Some more pictures of designs and prototypes for the PVC figure line have appeared on Paleofiguras:

Our very first Lokiceratops! That was quick. ;D

Turkeysaurus

Tyrannosaurus, Lokiceratops and what the other one?

First PVC figure actually. Paleokhris has a 3D printed resin version and De Clay studio is working on a traditional cast resin model. Maybe Haolonggood has a PVC figure in the making as well. I would not be surprised.

I'm pretty sure that's the "Daspletosaurus", or at least the teaser silhouette people seem to think is Daspletosaurus...

Yeah I don't really count resin or 3D prints, totally separate area of collecting in my mind.

Showanna is really good at manipulating their existing files, wouldn't surprise me if that's the case here. Would be much easier to start from a basic ceratopsian base.

I am afraid that by the time Showanna will have their Lokiceratops ready the show will be over.

The Tyrannosaurus and Daspletosaurus? will be a different story though. The fact that they have lips and no articulated mandible will make them very interesting for quite a number of people.

Sim

The Tyrannosaurus does have an articulated jaw, this has been shown previously.  I expect Showanna's other tyrannosauroids will have one too and it just hasn't been implemented yet in the prototype picture that's been shown.  I agree that it doesn't seem worthwhile for them to proceed with Lokiceratops.

Elengassen

I don't see why it's not worthwhile for Showanna to make a Lokiceratops. There are plenty of genera that have multiple good figures (Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Diplodocus etc.), so I don't see why we shouldn't be getting two good figures of a genus that previously had no figures at all.

It's a good thing Showanna announced theirs in advance, as this way those who are willing to wait can wait until it's released and compare the two instead of potentially having to replace the PNSO if they prefer the Showanna.
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.

I think Lokiceratops doesn't have the popularity many other prehistoric animals have, and people who would like a figure of it will tend to be satisfied with one good figure of it, which the PNSO is.  So I don't think there's a need for another Lokiceratops figure.  I don't imagine sales doing well with two very good Lokiceratops figures.

To be fair, for a new species and a herbivore at that Loki has gotten a good amount of attention. It's certainly not triceratops famous but it's getting up there, I could see it achieving Sinoceratops or even Styracodaurus levels of fame among enthusiasts at the very least.

I can see Lokiceratops becoming a popular species, to be fair. It's large and quite charismatic, with a unique feature (the asymmetry) and a "cool" name. I knew there was probably going to be a figure of it soon, although I didn't expect two in such close succession.

Personally, I always tend to think having options is a good thing. Even the endless succession of T. rex figures doesn't bother me; there's something different to appreciate about each one, and different people will have different preferences. For example, I like my Rebor Kiss and don't really feel the need for another T. rex in that scale range, but I'm aware that some people do not feel the same way. Showanna and PNSO do seem quite different stylistically, too, which would hopefully prevent their figures from seeming like minor variations on the same theme.

Halichoeres

The Lokiceratops was the only Showanna product I was remotely interested in, and the fact that the authors behind the genus were involved in the development of PNSO's version reduces the odds that I'll buy Showanna's. But two versions to choose from doesn't seem excessive. Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops are overdone, but Lokiceratops isn't, at least not yet!
