Quote from: DinoToyForum on October 20, 2024, 02:29:36 PMWeird. Can you remember, did the dialogue box appear as a popup within the website (styled like the forum), or as popup in the browser (styled like the browser)?

Looked just like Forum, same colours and font.

Hmm, I can't find any such error message text in the forum's files. If it happens again please take a screenshot and record the exact error warning, that will help me explain the source of the error. I could be wrong but I still suspect it's related to the browser or other non-forum software.

Will do :)
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

As on the Animal Toy Forum, I've removed the sidebar and all its content from devices with screens less than 900px wide, to make the forum more mobile-friendly. Screens less than 900px include ipads in portrait, but not landscape.

If you're a mobile/ipad user and miss any of the sidebar features please let me know.

Speaking of changes, and maybe it's something on my browser, but now my mobile view is showing the Recent Topics above anything else -- usually I get unread posts at the top.

And when I click into a thread like this one, recent topics is above the posts. It's disjointing to have to scroll down just to see the conversation

Oh, that's a mistake, thanks for pointing it out, I'll try and fix it...

I guess I miss "most views" and "most replies" a little bit, but maybe I'm the only one.

Yes, I think you may be! :))

Just a small tweak. I've replaced the "Quick Edit" button for a "Modify" button (on the bottom right of your posts). Previously, the 'Modify' option was only available via the "More" dropdown alongside a "Quick Edit" button. But 'Modify' provides more options than 'Quick Edit' so I think this change makes sense.

I can include both buttons if people prefer that, but one makes things more intuitive I think.

SidB

IMO, the one button makes sense, as I prefer a certain simplicity, especially if it gives more options.

I've installed a new set of smileys/emoticons for us to test out.  We had the old set for so long it might take a little time to adjust, and we can always go back to the old ones if we decide not to adopt the new ones. But the old range was limited, whereas I can add more icons in this new style. For example, I've added a new crying with laughter smiley  ::D  (as suggested by avatar_Protopatch @CharlieNovember), and also a grimace smiley  :||  and heart eyes smiley  *-* , both of which I'm sure I'll use a lot.

Let me know what you think and if you have suggestions for other smileys we could add. I don't want to go wild though.

Faelrin

I'll miss the old ones. They had that nostalgic old internet flair for me. Not that I used them much, but it was something I've seen day to day when coming to post.

That said more options are good for those that like to use them.

I tried to pick a style that matches the old ones as closely as possible. I also like the simple early internet style.

Compare new and old, here are some examples, they're generally not that different:

Cool, let's give it a try  ;) thank you !
Sometimes, ideas can sprout from unexpected soils ;D

Since DTF is a dino-focused forum, do you think that dinosaurs emojis would be redundant ?
Even if emojis aren't fundamental to the exchanges, they could still agreeably complete the posts and/or strengthen a comment.

Sim

I think dinosaur emojis could be useful.  Also, I think I would find a use for the vomiting emoji when certain types of figures are revealed..

Yeah and thus its opposite ie the "stars in the eyes" emo as well ?

DinoToyForum

 I've added this green queasy/sick smiley: (:X)

Sim

Heh, it should be useful ;D

IMO, the T. rex emoji might be more useful than the kissing one : :-*
I mean, in which circumstances the latter could be used ?
