I saw this Resin kit offered in only one more case :

And you can see it included also a display stand :

But, I am not sure it was always a part of the kit - As it was not included in any of the Kaiyodo kits Catalogs I saw -
Here in the ARTPLA Magazine from 1986 :

As in the above - Part of the references have errors in their scale ratio - a thing not uncommon with Kaiyodo Catalogs -
Such as also in the 1986 Colored Catalog ( Left ) , followed with The super Catalog - and the B&W complete 88' Kaiyodo Catalog :

But the stand sure was here, in the upper right corner, at the exhibition in the Kaiyodo Museum -

In this case, taken from the collection of the famous collector Hiroshi Tamura ( 田村博 コレクション )  -

Seeing here, in his workshop, with this statue at the background,
In a photo taken from the "Dinosaur Science Frontline " (  恐竜学最前線 ) Magazine by Gakken ( 学研 )

And of course, Don Glut has one ... painted in horrible red and blue ...

A much more pleasant to the eye is this color application :

Taken from The Araki picture book of 'The Dinosaur Sculptures' 「ダイノソア スカルプチュアー」 :

But it began much earlier, just as one of Araki's B&W sketches in 'Pointillism' style :

And later this exact scene materialized into a Kaiyodo kit on 1985  :

Black & White is also this closeup scene

From the Araki book of "Fifty Dinosaurs" :

Where he also depicted the tell tale of his versions and interpretation of the events happened in this scene -

When I followed this link I was not amused by what I saw. I think this link leads to somewhat inappropriate content.

For whatever reason that's Don Glut's signature style. I think it's because he directed Dino Valley Girls but I couldn't say for certain.

Libraraptor

We had a discussions about Don Glut´s highly embarrassing pictures somewhere before, I remember. Regarding women as fresh meat diminished the good impression and positive opinion I otherwise have of him.

BrontoScorpio

It's hard or near impossible to give credentials to any of Don Glut's models -
without falling on some 'Inappropriate content' ... and in a very bad taste too.

I always take out the 'non-Dinosaur' contents before I put any of his collection pics -
But I do keep the web links - if only to give additional information for those few who want to investigate deeper on the subject
- while I assume most readers won't care to follow these reference links anyway ...

The subject of 'Don Glut' Phenomenon was discussed on older threads -
so now I tend to brush away or just ignore the additional bad contents as a necessary evil.

As I think that person was the agent in charge of Kaiyodo retails in the USA during the 90's -
and holds practically the most comprehensive collection I have ever seen so far.

I will later post something about Don Glut -
but let's not turn this thread to a 'Don Glut' dedicated chat room -
He is vile enough as it is ... I don't feel like sharing more of him here.

so, no need for more 'Don Glut' comments -
I think we all agree on this one - point taken.

Libraraptor

Just in case, here´s the link to the Don Glut thread:

This is BrontoScorpio´s collection thread, absolutely right :)

And continue for the next and final phaze  :
The remaining two kits of the 2nd installment of the nine old kits by Kaiyodo from the 'Dinosaur Museum Series'  purchased at the 'June Carnage 2024' -

Two Resin kits of large Carnivours in 1/35 scale that ends the group of 6 models from the Kaiyodo Catalog  :

1. 1/35 Gorgosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( ゴルゴサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )
2. 1/35 Megalosaurus (Type A) vs Polacanthus by Kazunari Araki  ( メガロサウルス A vs ポラカンサス 原型: 荒木一成 )

BrontoScorpio

The 1st of the Two :

1/35 Gorgosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( ゴルゴサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )

An 11 parts Resin kit :

With the belly up :

After assembling - I had some gap between the upper and lower jaw -
That I filled with substance to serve as cheeks :

Those legs do look a bit slender than they should ...

Next to the common Soft Vinyl version - This one looks like pre-made - but I'm not 100% sure ...

As stated before - teeth with old resin kits are a problem - The Vinyl model boasts with much more noticeable set :

Other ways, they are identical - no wonder, as the rare Resin model was the prototype for the mass produced Vinyl :

Gorgosaurus & Albertosaurus were considered one species for a long time -
so here they are - next to the X-Plus Vinyl Albertosaurus :

BrontoScorpio

As one of Kaiyodo earlier Resin kits - it took part in the first Catalogs :
- Resin kit for 5,000 ¥

The earliest Resin kits group shot - from the Kaiyodo Catalog :

And in the ARTPLA Magazine :

Later came the common Soft vinyl Ver. for 2,000 ¥  :

The Soft Vinyl is very common whereas the Resin one is extremely rare -
Even Don Glut has only the Soft one ...

I have to admit - Resin has its value - and aesthetic quality - even when compared with newer models -
and when the joints are covered it is hard to distinguish between the two -
but as far as the model itself, and in soft Vinyl in particularly, this is probably one of my least favorite models :

But a rare vintage Resin prototype is surely a 'nice to have' -
if one is looking - as it happens - there is one put on offer just now :

BrontoScorpio

The 2nd of the two and the last Model kit purchased at the 'June Carnage 2024' -

The leaflet shows 1/35 Megalosaurus by Kazunari Araki

But there also a Polacanthus in the complete kit - with 12 pieces and the Megalosaurus itself combined of 11 pieces :

flipping sides with the entire kit :
1/35 Megalosaurus (Type A) vs Polacanthus by Kazunari Araki  ( メガロサウルス A vs ポラカンサス 原型: 荒木一成 )

Assembled at last :

Flips on its side :

with all those difficult to assemble and adjust Ankles and elbows :

And legs spread wide for some reason - which seems unnatural - until it is realized ...

Some might claim that it goes without saying that the true star of this diorama is not the Megalosaurus -
but the Polacanthus, whose belly is being dissected

And the complete scene :

Where the Megalosaurus is bending down devouring the poor Polacanthus while it's tail is raised up in the air :

It is by design that one of the Megalosaurus' legs is grabbing on to the Polacanthus' tail and also one of its hands is held up above the ground :

BrontoScorpio

But looking at the leaflet - you can see there is a different pose for the Megalosaurus' setup :

The Megalosaurus has both legs on the ground and is already gorging on the carcass :

The 2nd setup up close :

But I do think this 1st position is much better :

In the Kaiyodo Catalogs you can see both versions of the setup :

And on top - Kaiyodo had also two versions of the 1/35 Megalosaurus - one by Araki ( A ) and a 2nd by Hara ( B ) -

There is something unclear about what type of setup is used in the Kaiyodo museum - taken from the Tamura Hiroshi Collection ( 田村博 コレクション )

The Dinosaur studio ( Dan LoRusso ) was in line with my preference - and it figures -
as the left hind feet has a curve that matches the Polacanthus' tail

With Don Glut - it is all one big mess :

The Megalosaurus from the Kaiyodo mini series comes to join the feast -

But is quickly being driven away ...

Last is a group shot of some of my Megalosaurs - with the Invictas :

Elengassen

Is there a reason why the Kaiyodo Megalosaurs have an Acrocanthosaurus-style ridge on their back?
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.

CityRaptor

Quote from: Elengassen on January 17, 2025, 08:25:17 PMIs there a reason why the Kaiyodo Megalosaurs have an Acrocanthosaurus-style ridge on their back?

Probably has to do with Megalosaurus formerly being a wastebucket taxon. Many of those species assigned to Megalosaurus turned out to be something else.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

BrontoScorpio

And there is nothing left but to close it with a group shot of the two assembled kits of the 2nd installment :

Well, actually two and a half ...

And the last pic - and with that I conclude my adventure at the 'June Carnage 2024' :

All four 1/35 carnivours together :

1. 1/35 Allosaurus by Eito Hara  ( アロサウルス  原型: 原詠人 )
2. 1/35 Gorgosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( ゴルゴサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )
3. 1/35 Megalosaurus (Type A) vs Polacanthus by Kazunari Araki  ( メガロサウルス A vs ポラカンサス 原型: 荒木一成 )
4. Gasosaurus ( ガソサウルス ) from 1988 by Araki Kazunari ( 荒木一成 )

BrontoScorpio

Received a new box - this time from the USA - And it is actually and old Box :

A Resin kit - Again ...

The attached postcard up close - Diorama set with two Pachyrhinosaurs and some tree trunks by Lunar Models :

It could have been looking like that - If the box was in a better shape :

The parts inside :

All together 14 pieces :

The male & female Pachyrhinos' heads :

And the back side of the frills :

Not often do I get the complete torso with all 4 limbs and tail as one piece :

Flipping sides :

BrontoScorpio

The Diorama is now assembled :

I'll circle it counter-clock wise ...

Each of the Pachy's has one of its legs up in the air -

The dead old branches coming out of the tree trunks, were particularly difficult to be fixed in their places

Closing whole circle ...

The Enormous horn on that male seems rather inconvenient - was it really that big ?

Well, no other Pachyrhinosaurus I own comes even close to be carrying such a formidable horn -
The latest of which are those two ' Noboru Yanagi ' 3D printer kits :

SidB

Yes, avatar_BrontoScorpio @BrontoScorpio , I remember that enormous horn being bandied about as a possibility, but seeing it concretely like this certainly seems to indicate the practical absurdity of that speculation.

Torvosaurus

I remember that, too, and that particular model kit is just too unique that I remember it. No matter how unique it makes the dino, there needs to be some semblance to reality, and that horn is not it.

It was done like 30 years ago - so maybe that was the notion back then ...
