Do agree it's a bit disappointing that there's not that many changes (but I guess T.rex and the raptors are the poster children so they didn't wanna scare off fans) and while I do feel the movie design will look a bit better (looking at the Spinosaurus renders vs the movie model e.g) I will say the colors on the face are a really nice touch

Looking at it a few times there some interesting design choices. This one at least has elements of the Nublar and Sorna raptors the head design especially make it look like a crossbreed.  It has male and female features of the JP3 Raptors.  Quite curious.  The tail now is also odd. It has very reptilian scales? Maybe even scutes?

Gwangi

Since this is an island of prototypes it would have been a good excuse to play around with the Velociraptor design. Give them feathers, perhaps? Or make them look more like plucked birds? Something ugly that wouldn't display well? But no, JW is squandering this cool concept just like Dominion did.  ::)

I didn't notice that but you seem to be right, the tip of the tail sure looks like the skin is hardened.

I have a pretty confident feeling that a lot of the weirdness on the art is just that, a quirk of the art.
After all, the art for the other three are all off in some way.
The Spinosaurus has skinny arms and a weirdly shaped jaw, the Mosasaurus has a back of the mouth which makes no sense, and the Tyrannosaurus is grey when it's clearly a more brown/yellow colour in the trailer.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I really wish they had taken this chance to do JP novel/Kenner versions. That alone would have made me interested.

Eatmycar

I'm certain this art is made and has to be finalized well in advance for merchandise and use in press stuff years ahead of time. The toys take a year or two to go from concept to shelves, as well.

A VFX team isn't limited like this when it comes to the models for the film. Don't like the way gray looks in the lighting? Make the T. rex look brown. Eyes on the velociraptor not getting the proper reaction from early photos or screenshots? Change that right up.

This is why the T. rex in these renders is grey, and why these raptors may not look 100% correct.

For comparison, here's the Dominion style guide, which is dated for 2021. The movie was released in 2022.

The placement of the arms/shoulders bothers me. They seem too high, which wS the case for the JW raptor also, no?

IDK, but it WAS the case for the JW Gallimimus: https://www.reddit.com/r/Paleontology/comments/ucp51f/that_moment_when_jurassic_parks_depicts_dinosaurs/

Quote from: HD-man on February 07, 2025, 04:09:05 AMOn a related note, I just found out about Arturo García's Spino redesign, which is MUCH closer to both what Frank Marshall said ("They're all based on real dinosaur research, but they look a little different": https://archive.ph/KFMoZ ) & what I hoped for ( https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=11253.msg388667#msg388667 ):

Here's GabeEsque's Spino redesign ( https://x.com/ThatsTheDuke/status/1887271558344822795 ). I especially like Dempsey's comment ("Demonstrates that the problem with the new design isn't the gnarly textures or "ugliness", but sloppy shaping"):

it's Rebirth as it's the start of a new trilogy from what I've gathered. Going back to the island I'm curious where the next one could go storywise. I feel like there is going to be a big twist ending.

This may have an impact on future JURASSIC PARK/JURASSIC WORLD movies and tv:

LUCASFILM---multiple sources claim controversial Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has told associates she will retire at the end of 2025. Kennedy became head of Lucasfilm in 2012 after Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4 billion. Kennedy was a producer of movies including STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, JURASSIC PARK, BACK TO THE FUTURE, E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, GREMLINS and others.
One source claimed Kennedy planned to retire at the end of 2024, "Kathy was actually planning to leave last year, and had even set up an exit interview with a journalist, but she decided to stay for one more year." Speculation is that Kennedy may have changed her mind because she did not want to retire with the STAR WARS franchise engulfed in controversy, including the cancelling of THE ACOLYTE, which would have left a stain on her legacy.
Insiders speculate Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer, will be Kennedy's successor.

CityRaptor

She apparently wasn't involved with the franchise since JPIII, so I don't think that will change much.

Of course the Star Wars Fans are happy, but those also seem to have issues with Laura Dern, so who cares?
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Shane

I don't blame her for wanting to retire and live a happy life without being scapegoated for everything "wrong" with Star Wars.

But yeah she has zero to do with the Jurassic franchise and this will have zero impact on any JP media.

That raptor toy isn't too shabby, if it turns out that good.  Paint and detail are pretty nice, just a step or so below a HC figure.

Many of these videos - the few that I wasted my time on anyway – are awful. Mostly filler, minimal content. They take ten minutes to do what a simple image and sentence could do in seconds, and often don't add anything new anyway. They just have scenes from the trailer on loop, mixed with clips from other JP films, while the 'host' waffles on or speculates about things we already know or have discussed here. I might have to start blocking them as spam if quality control (i.e. the member sharing it) doesn't improve. Please only share videos that add actual value to the discussion, not just any old clickbait.

That's what 90% of what's out there is. People don't search anymore just check youtube videos for information.  You can't "explain" something that hasn't been released yet anyway unless they have a script or an interview with the cast. Which would get you shutdown before it's officially released.

The videos avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum describes are also often filled with ads. They pad them out with as much filler and junk to make more money, and youtube ads are typically notorious time wasters (unless you use ublock origin). I typically avoid videos like this for all the reasons he said and that one.
