Concavenator

S @SidB Haha thanks, and I've been increasingly happy with the Concavenator's I've had, with HLG's being the third and IMO the best one yet.

Been after this one for a while now (Sega Dino King Futabasaurus miniature):

Admittedly, I've already got the two which really matter to me (Atopdentatus & Sezhousaurus), so any other picks were just on a whim. Sometimes the extant animal series get mixed in too, so it's a gamble for a surprise. I appreciate the thought, though!

Nice find, avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum! I'm guessing that's among the rarer figurines from the series.

Yes, I think it's rare, I've been on the lookout for it for years.

Quote from: Fembrogon on February 22, 2025, 04:11:03 AMI ended up picking more Yowies for myself yesterday on a whim. I think I'm going to have to stop, though; the returns are starting to diminish...

Well done ! If only I could find such cool stuff here... but I would have probably ended up with chocolate indigestion+

SidB

A big box was dropped off at my door last night and, not surprisingly, it contained my long anticipated PNSO Huanghetitan, the hollow vinyl Titanosaur released by that company in 2016. Long thought to be not available and totally out of stock, Model Toy Co. on Aliexpress recently advertised a number of these to be available, so I ordered one. Not terribly expensive, but shipping was nasty, not because of the minimal weight of the figure, but rather due to its sheer physical size. So here's a shot of it safely nestled into a transitional Papo display on top of a display unit. It absolutely dominates the scene, even towering over the Papo Brachiosaurus/ Giraffatitan.

Other than it's role as A Huanghetitan sp., it can adequately serve as a generic titanosaurid of some type (see L @Leyster 's review of this figure), as the fossil remains are minimal and fragmentary, similar to so many of its clad.

S @SidB congrats on getting that big guy! It's still an impressive figure even in the face of HAOLONGGOOD's recent offerings of large sauropods!

Thanks, I'd been looking for one since 2017 or so, without any success. Persistence is an under-rated virtue, but it usually pays off. Plus, 190 dollars Canadian versus 500 plus for the wonderful PNSO Argentinosaurus sorta decided me when I saw it up for sale on Aliexpress.

Protopatch

My warm welcome to the four Gobi newcomers who have joined Patch the Proto in their temporary scenery !

I'm proud of the choices I could make thanks to your kind contributions ;D
Many thanks again to all of you I'm super grateful, the team is growing slowly but surely.
I dig the BotM Velociraptor's style and despite its scaling (1:18), it still looks relevant alongside the other guys.
I'm waiting to receive the gaming mat to display them in their recreated flora ;)

Nehalennia

The EoFauna American Mastodon and Columbian Mammoth arrived today, and I am over the moon with them! Such beautiful models.

I just ordered them myself from Dejankins, plus the Ankylosaurus.

You won't be disappointed, definitely my highlight of the year so far.

I've acquired:

1. The newer version of the PNSO museum series Stegosaurus.  The one I had previously was one of a few figures I had that suffered from paint marker black not curing on it, spoiling the figure.  I'm not sure if I prefer the new or the old version of the adult Stegosaurus, but I'm happy with the one I have now.  Some of the tail spikes and plates were warped, but I managed to straighten them after using heat from a blow dryer.

2. The most recent version of the small PNSO Ophthalmosaurus.  I was surprised by how it came in a small box similar to the larger PNSO figures, instead of the packs I'd seen previously for PNSO mini figures.  I've recently become aware that detail tends to look more natural than the exaggerated form it has in photos or videos that provide zoomed in versions of figures.  I feel I can tolerate the fine wrinkles of this PNSO Ophthalmosaurus and its paintjob is lovely.  It comes in at around 1:35 scale too, by my calculations.  I wish more prehistoric marine reptile figures were made, although PNSO hasn't even made one plesiosauroid yet!

3. CollectA Medusaceratops and Xenoceratops.  I like the colourations of these figures, and I've been wanting a Medusaceratops and I liked the appearance of the CollectA Xenoceratops... mostly.  I've ended up not keeping these figures.  Why?  Mostly because of their dorsal bristles.  I thought I could tolerate them, but I can't.  They are in a made-up location (Psittacosaurus only has them on its tail), are of a made up-length (Psittacosaurus has long bristle) and just look absurd to me.  I don't know why CollectA put them like this on their ceratopsids, but now that I've tried ceratopsids like this that I otherwise like I can say without a doubt I dislike figures with these bristles.  They are fine on the CollectA Protoceratops where they are done more realistically, but on the ceratopsids they stop me from getting a number of CollectA's figures.

I forgot to mention, the CollectA Medusaceratops is weirdly shrinkwrapped and very muscular in different places.  It doesn't look very good in person.  The CollectA Xenoceratops, despite being made earlier, is more natural looking.  I hope someone else will make a nice Medusaceratops figure, with its appealing anatomy!

Out of curiosity, did you receive a copy from the earlier or later waves? I believe the later waves of the Museum Series Stegosaurus have more prominent (less blended in) facial markings; and better(?) / more consistent plate paint apps.

I believe the figure's been identified as Nannopterygius. I agree with the ID, the proportions fit this genus more than Ophthalmosaurus. Especially the miniscule fins.

Sim

The PNSO Stegosaurus I received is the one with a new paintjob.  Its body colour is lighter than the previous version.  The previous version that I had didn't have anything poor regarding the paintjob of its plates.

Thanks for the info on the PNSO Ophthalmosaurus's identity.  I'm not sure I agree with that identification though, the figure looks more like Ophthalmosaurus to me.  The Nannopterygius recon you posted shows it as more elongated, and the front flippers of the PNSO Ophthalmosaurus aren't as small as they seem when viewed from above.

Flaffy

There are other reconstructions of Nannopterygius that are less elongate

Sim

The snout on those look proportionally shorter than the PNSO Ophthalmosaurus.  Maybe they are a different species to the one you posted previously?

And hopefully it'll be the last time you need to fix it! In the month or so that I've had mine for, I applied the same treatment around 5 or 6 times.  :P It's a nice figure, but so annoying to deal with (at least in my experience). The Safari Stegosaurus I had prior to it didn't give me any trouble, didn't suffer any warping, and unlike the PNSO, it didn't come in a super sturdy, well-protected box, just in a simple bag!

Carnoking

February was a slower month of acquisitions for me and I am 100% okay with that.

Did pick up a few HC figures during Target's latest sale

And I did cave and get the Pyroraptor on the after market  ::)
I figured it would only get more and more expensive the longer I tried to hold out so when I saw a fellow collector listing their HC collection for sale on social media, I decided to reach out. Guess it's just a friendly reminder not to wait on picking up these HC releases, especially the small ones. Now I think I just need to get the Allo and I'll be all caught up.
