Quote from: Sim on March 06, 2025, 08:06:48 PMFrankly, I think the Showanna Tyrannosaurus doesn't have fine detail, it lacks detail.  I hate its pose too.  And I think the Tyrannosaurus with mammal musculature is REBOR's.
Indeed, IIRC, it was L @Leyster who explained that.

No, not somebody here and not for Rebor's Kiss. I read it on discord, somebody who is working on Sue's 3d skeletal scanning for a scientific paper wrote it.

I think it's the painting makes scales look rougher than it should. For those who only collect new PNSO, Haolonggood , W-Dragon or REBOR models, there is a paint quality drop off with Eofauna. That's something collectors must think before buy it.

On the contrary, I think Eofaunas paint work is superior to PNSO, HLG and most other PVC models.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I went ahead and canceled mine. Hopefully they can improve as they continue.

I find this T-rex really good.
I'm impressed by the body, the pose is nice.
It's just not my style, as it seems to have, I don't knonw how to put it, but a hard face, and also half lips.
I'm just waiting for PNSO next proposal.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I talked with Lana when I did my cancellation, they are seeking museums to partner with to carry a new dinosaur figure/model line as well. So that might be something?

From Paleofiguras:

Prototype of Stan at 1/35.

It fits this silhouette:

I'm surprised Showanna is making more than one Tyrannosaurus figure.  They must be avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres's most hated company, after the ones that make Jurassic Park/World rip-offs.

Showanna's Stan figure looks more interesting to me than their Scotty, but I have no need for another Tyrannosaurus figure.  I'm eager to see their Daspletosaurus!

Hmmm ... , making more than one T-rex. Could it be that they are true believers, believers in making money?

In the 120th Anniversary year of its description by Osborn we're getting them from HLG, Showanna X2, Nanmu Smart, REBOR just dropped one, and is about to drop a repaint of Kiss too, and I'd be shocked if REBOR didn't have at least one more this year. PNSO is likely to drop one this year, and if I had to guess W-Dragon will have a JP rex or two.

2025 is looking to be a great year for my collection.

I get the hate though.

Some people hate the New York Yankees, Pepperoni Pizza and Chocolate Ice Cream for similar reasons.

Concavenator

I guess this would confirm my previous suspicion about another Tyrannosaurus figure being released by them:

Quote from: Concavenator on December 22, 2024, 04:25:24 PMavatar_Sim @Sim I think the one you said might be a Gorgosaurus is a Tyrannosaurus, just with horn-like keratin extensions.

It would also appear to be too heavily-built for an albertosaurine like Gorgosaurus.

Likewise.

I will say...

Looking at the "Stan" prototype, I'm not convinced by that jaw articulation. Hopefully it will look better painted, and will look decent closed.

To be honest, I didn't need jaw articulation on the "Scotty", which should ship from LanaTime any day, and the fact that the jaw doesn't fully close is a bit disappointing.

IMO the commentary about the teeth is amusing to me. Looking at my collection, Showanna's teeth on "Scotty" (judging by photos) are no better or worse than those from Creative Beasts, HLG, Safari, Collecta, Battat, Kaiyodo, Schleich, Papo, or Mattel.

Granted, REBOR, Nanmu and W-Dragon have amazing teeth, but they're using a separate palate/dentition in thier figures, the head and the interior of the mouth are molded separately. Nanmu is also 30% higher price compared to Showanna, W-Dragon is on par in price, and REBOR is 20% below.

PNSO is where I draw the direct comparison. PNSO charges the same money ($65/$80) for their rexes. Wilson-1's teeth are whale baleen. Wilson-2's teeth are better, but still flat and squared off in cross section. Cameron's teeth are better, but still not up to the stellar quality of the rest of that figure. All of them have been the more expensive Museum Series. PNSO's lower-priced Tarbosaurus and Zuchengtyrannus have flat blunt teeth as well. For me, right now, PNSO is making the best dinosaur figures out there, with HLG a close second.

IMO, Showanna's teeth on this figure are no worse than those from any other company, including the world leaders.

As a rexophile, my general reaction also is "bring 'em on" too. Of course, if they make cold, hard cash in the process, all the more power to them. There's the valuable side benefit that profits in one aspect allows risk taking in another, i.e., other figures too.

Turkeysaurus

I'm glad we have one more company at great quality & scientific models. I hope they make enough profit to continue investing in PVC. Even if they do species that other companies have already done, it's always good to have another option.

Stan looks less gaunt than Scotty. Another great looking model, i hope they have some sense to NOT paint similar colors & patterns to their Scotty.

Even if they are in love with brown like PNSO and choose that color again, at least make it really dark like black-ish or some khaki or reddish , purple-ish etc. tones of brown. There are many tones & shades of brown that doesn't look like we already seen a million of times before.(Not to mention patterns)

Turkeysaurus

T.rex isn't the Michael Jordan of dinosaurs, Michael Jordan is the T.Rex of basketball. So bring all the companies. Let them fight for the title.

Eh, I don't hate them, just indifferent until such time as they do something interesting.

Paleofiguras has posted new photos of the Showanna Scotty.  It has exposed teeth when its mouth is closed.  Are people going to react like they did to the newer Haolonggood Tyrannosaurus, or not?

Haolonggood needs a plastic surgery , Showanna needs a rehab.  ::D

Blade-of-the-Moon

eh I'm just glad I canceled. It's just not for me I guess. As far as teeth go, I'd just leave the mouth open.

Turkeysaurus

I don't know if like this or HLG more yet but i still quite like it.

It's not as good as it was advertised but not that far actually.

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

The base is nice, but they have such an aggressive Jurassic Park / early 2000s documentary vibe... Not for me.
Weirdly enough, the exposed teeth in particular (usually an instant dealbreaker for me) kinda work here though imo.
