Quote from: Nehalennia on April 26, 2025, 09:25:17 PMMy TNG Megatherium just arrived. Lovely model, couldn't be happier! Finally a proper, big and hefty representation of this species.

I've been eyeing that for a while, it looks great! Would you happen to be able to find out what scale it's in?
The figure is about 19 centimeters long, so if we assume an upper limit of 4 meters for Megatherium americanum that would make this figure ~1:21 I think? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not great with scale.

ceratopsian

Unpacked today, supplied by Wanhatoys. The paint scheme is artistically satisfying and well applied.

Of course, with your usual eye for colour, avatar_ceratopsian @ceratopsian , the employment of a bluish toned base really complements that paint scheme of HLG's.

To complement avatar_Nehalennia @Nehalennia 's Megatherium postng with its fine set of images, I'll add my own recent acquisition and include several Megatheriums (Megatheria ?) from my existing collections for comparison purposes. Also, consider the matter of scale of the new introduction, which TNG states is 1/35.

Left to right: Wild Safari, TNG, Schleich, Bullyland and two Marx/ Marx Knockoffs

Let's pay special attention to the TNG one and the Bullyland. Keep in mind that Bullyland has stamped their figure as 1/24 scale.

Note this comparison of the hind feet. Bullyland has the classic interpretation showing the weight bearing emphasis on the outside edge of these pedal extremities. I understand that there is a newer paper de-emphasizing that degree and averring a somewhat more balanced approach (though still with the outer edge bearing most of the animal's weight). TNG has a flat foot , as does the Schleich and (surprisingly) the Safari:

TNG

Bullyland

Safari

Schleich

Tongues out - hopefully they're not making fun of us:

^-^ Thanks S @SidB!  Pure chance. My Latin dictionary was stable and uncluttered!

Is Megatherium 4 or 6 meters ?
I'm reading both infos.
I would really hope that TNG to be 1/35, but if that's not the case I'll just keep my Safari.

Yeah, it's a bit confusing. If we assume 6 meters in length we're getting a lot closer to that 1:35 scale. I don't know to be honest!

I've acquired:

1. Eikoh Ornitholestes.  I decided I would like to have this figure after all.  I'm happy to have it!

2. Eikoh Stygimoloch.  I'm glad I got to see it in person.  I prefer the Takara Tomy Stygimoloch though so that's the one I'm keeping even if it can't stand!

3. Eikoh Archaeopteryx.  Another figure I decided I actually do want to have.  I was surprised that it has sickle claws, the second toe on both of its feet is raised off the ground.  I hadn't noticed that with the one I had originally.  This makes it the best mini Archaeopteryx in my opinion.  I'm glad I gave it another chance!

4. Bullyland flying Pteranodon sternbergi.  I think this is my favourite version of this species, but I would like to have it repainted!

Faelrin

Thanks for the feedback on the Eikoh Archaeopteryx. That one I slept on for sure. Love their recent mammals though.

I am reading 6 meters typically. At about 20 feet in body length and thirteen feet standing erect to feed from trees, M. americanum was a giant.

However, it seems that TNG has errored in the making of the digits of those hands. Megatherium should only have the three middle digits clawed, with the little finger lacking such and the thumb not visible at all. Looks like Safari got this right. Time for surgery for my Megatherium as soon as possible.

Here's a response, visually, to the previous discussion about whether of not HLG's new rex is just a rehash of the HLG 1. It most certain is NOT. Here are both of them zeroing in on the HLG trike:

Carnoking

Well, my April started off pretty sleepy for acquisitions with only the arrival of my kickstarter Achillobator to speak of.

What can I say, it's another awesome release from David. Bring on those Mammoths and that Carno!

Then I stumbled upon some Mattel figures on markdown while grocery shopping. I really don't go for the mainline stuff all that often anymore it feels like but those sales always get me. The only problem is, not all of them were actually on sale (only the strike attacks and for some reason the Jakapil) but by the time I realized Walmart's mistake I was past the point of no return.

And then the month sure ended in a big way. A little late to the party with this one but absolutely chuffed to finally welcome HAOLONGGOOD's massive Argentinosaurus to the collection, it's every bit as glorious as I expected.

As a little bonus for the month, Mark Witton's new Book "King Tyrant" arrived about a month earlier than expected. As far as I can tell, it's still only listed for pre-order until mid May, so how I got mine so early, I have no idea. Trust me though, I'm not complaining, and I look forward to giving this lavish text a read.

PrimevalRaptor

Waited for a sale for this guy and at 50% off I finally picked up the Schleich Allosaurus.
Still not the biggest fan of the blunt teeth (yes it's a toy but Safari/CollectA manage that better imo) but otherwise really like the sculpt, it's not perfect but especially the head looks really good imo
Also while I wasn't too big of a fan of the pose when the first pics released, it has grown on me

Sim

When I last posted here, I forgot one other thing I've acquired, the latest version of the Safari feathered dinos toob.  Thanks to crazy8wizard for telling me it existed!  I got it for the Dilong which is almost but not quite black now.  The original colouration of this figure was too black for me, making it hard to see its eyes.  The colouration was later changed to be completely yellow-orange except for painted eyes, and this was just pitiful.  Finally the last change has struck a balance I find pleasing!

Elengassen

Just got these Kaiyodos in the post today courtesy of a trade with avatar_Sim @Sim . Very pleased with them! The level of detail in the paintwork at such a small size always amazes me.
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.

Paleodude

Found the Mattel JW Hypsilophodon on clearance at Walmart (presumably to make room for the Rebirth assortment) and had to pick him up to spite a certain game developer.

Something interesting I've noticed in some of Mattel's recent Attack Pack assortments is there are a few figures that are all about 1:9 scale in stark contrast to the usual 1:18 advertised. Hypsi of course is one of these and is pictured with the other similarly scaled figures Lystrosaurus and Eoraptor. Curious if any other figures follow this mini assortment.

Having just received Sarari's new Saltasaurus from Dejankins this week, I want to show it and some comparison pictures, especially for those considering making this purchase. Digging into my stored figures, I came up with the old Schleich Saltasaurus from their Replicasaurus days (one of their better figures, IMO) and the Carnegie Safari one.

The trio

Body armor

The new Saltasaurus itself

A comparison of their heads -
New Safari and Schleich

Carnegie Safari (this was the weakest aspect of the figure)

Feet comparisons -

New Safari vs. Carnegie Safari
