Quote from: BlueKrono on May 20, 2025, 11:09:36 PMMy biggest question is about the Aztec-y stone carvings in the Quetz cave. Did the park owners carve those? Doubtful. Were they carved by ancient Meso-Americans that lived on the island? Are they still around, a la King Kong's Skull Islanders? What in the world is going on?
It's old lore that these islands used to be inhabited and InGen pushed the natives out through various tactics
One of the main characters of the Telltale game comes from a family who lived on Nublar

Super busy right now, all I have to say, I have the same opinions as avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi

Over9K

As a dinosaur and kaiju movie megafan, I want JW:R to work. I want David Keopp returning to the franchise to mean something.

What I see in the trailer is a second Lost World, if we ordered it from Temu. Going back, to plunder, accidentally there's a kid and a couple new hybrids for Mattel.

Right now my order of preference goes...

Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park III
Lost World: Jurassic Park

Jurassic World
A Sharp Stick In The Eye
Taxes
The Dentist
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
A Colonoscopy
Jurassic World: Dominion

It would make me very happy to get a movie that slots in right above Jurassic World. That's where I am. I think I'm being reasonable and even a bit conservative in my expectations, given the current state of the franchise.

Pliosaurking

I'm excited for this movie, and the trailer looked good for the most part especially the Rex scene. There's some things I'm definitely not too fond of though.

DavidJamesArmsby

I have not been keeping up with news on this film. I've only seen Trailer 1 and 2.
I was cautiously optimistic before, and now I'm actually a little excited. It's really starting to look like a Gareth Edwards film which is a good thing in my book! :D

I'm curious why they haven't shown any Velociraptors yet. I hope they've come up with something special and interesting to do with them and don't want to spoil it in the trailers.

My open heart surgery almost beat JW: Dominion. 😝

If you're being serious then you and I are living in a different universe. :*D  To each their own, I guess. O:-)

I'm dead serious. The terror feels real to me

I love the lab scene, it adds to the dark tone of this trailer! I'm happy there is no Marvel-like humor, and there are some definitely dark scenes that appear. The T-Rex raft and Mosasaurus scenes look very exciting. I can't wait to see the movie opening night!
Mosasurus on Jurassic Mainframe and JPToys
Angurius on TohoKingdom

I love all the Jurassic movies, plus Disney's Dinosaur

Fallen Kingdom gets "Rescued" by being so bad its funny, and Dominion gets "rescued" by having less casual macho sexism than the first JW. So my own ranking is JP, (...) TLW, JP3, (...) JWFK, JWD, JW. RN I assume Rebirth will slot between JP3 and JWFK.

Rain

There's a lot to not like but, visually, the movie looks fantastic. Gareth Edwards is doing what he's known for and that excites me.

I'm expecting the movie to end up third in the franchise, critically, which would place it behind Jurassic World and Jurassic Park.

I know what you mean by Marvel-like humor, but to be honest I don't have a problem with Koeppe writing a lot of comedy and sarcasm quips,
I think it's pretty realistic to be honest because in my own experience it's very easy to jump to comedy from fear, and sarcasm from frustration.

I never got to understand why people hate on the moment in TLW where Eddie asks Nick, Ian and Sarah if they need anything else while they're dangling and they start joking about getting them cheeseburgers. It's just a mix of sarcasm and trying to keep their spirits up because they're afraid. Comedy bands people together and it's a comfort we seek.

For me, when it gets unfunny is when movies have quip lines that disregard the scene, that seem to make fun of their own movie. The "Uhh..I guess THAT just happened" sort of lines.
They're not genuine, they're so yucky!

Faelrin

I caved.

Spoiler
One part of me really feels bad for the dude in first part of the trailer 2, but part of me also finds it hilarious with the way the D. rex snatches him up like I do with a bag of Doritos (like the Indominus did in JW now that I think about it). Like my brain instantly when to "new meme format just dropped". Then again I typically find most horror movies comedic, even if partially at times. I am also the sort that routes for the monster in most cases. I am going to probably laugh at this scene in the theater despite the tension it is trying to convey. It's also cliche as can be.

Anyways most is kind of just extended bits from the first trailer. Love this T. rex redesign, and the river scene is going to be amazing to see on the big screen. Been waiting for this to be depicted in a film for 20 years now (read the novel when I was 14, will be 34 by the time it is in theaters).

They do move in herds. Also did these guys get a redesign or are the sails closed down?

And omg the Aquilops in the backpack. My heart melted. I need a plushie of one asap. It's still a bit of a pug faced gremlin (which is hilarious as one of its relatives is named such), but I think it looks much better then was shown in the promo art, and also much cuter. I think the Tomy figure got that look down, where it was similar but slightly better looking then the promo art is. Still waiting to get a good look at Mattel's though.

Also did they replace the two headed raptor with the mutadon? Or is this yet another like it? Can't tell. Already shared my thoughts on them above. Do like even though it feels like it crawled out of a Monster Hunter game, and not this franchise (ignoring the mobile games with hybrids galore).

Quote from: suspsy on May 20, 2025, 09:33:26 PMYou should really read all that Gwangi wrote earlier.

Gwangi wrote down several things they liked and several things they didn't like in a reasonable, unbiased way. No one's saying this movie should be above criticism, but crashing out because of a rather insignificant door scene just seems desperate. Repeatedly wishing for a franchise to die, because you don't enjoy it, even more so.

This is a veiled personal attack and your previous post was a clear provocation by projecting unfounded motivations on other members. It's a violation of forum rule 1, so this is a warning. Thanks for understanding. C:-)

That was in no way a personal attack, and it's pretty rich of you to accuse em of that after pretty much making fun of other people for their opinions.

So uh. To go back on topic.
Spoiler
I feel a bit jealous of all the people who were scared by the door scene (and by extension, managed to take it seriously). The director really likes these door scenes, so with this one all I can think of is if he's poking fun at himself. Though I guess the fact that I see the D-rex moreso as a big puppy than a serious dinosaur threat probably doesn't help there - it's just so dog-like, in design and vibes. It's a big inbred pooch who wasn't taught not to eat humans and wasn't allowed to play with the other puppers so it's shy and awkward now.
