David Silvas New Kickstarter: Articulated Dinosaur TOYS

I was wondering maybe someone could tell me the difference between the two velociraptor species. I know the blue is one species and the new black and the original 1/18 velociraptor are another, what are some characteristics that differed them in real life and manly in these figures are they overall the same figure or do they have slight differences?

L @LBDINO As far as the sculpts go, they are the same, but repainted. Velociraptor mongoliensis is the type species, and the one most people are familiar with (that is those familiar with the real animal, and the JP Deinonychus that incorrectly named as such). Velociraptor osmolskae was described in 2008, and was quite fragmentary (only remains consisted of partial maxillae and lacrimal from what I can find on it), and might not even belong to Velociraptor, according to a 2013 paper that suggested it was more related to Linheraptor. There also seems to be work done in the past few years on a specimen called MPC-D 100/982, which may be another distinct species of Velociraptor. Time will tell I guess.

V. mongoliensis is from the Djadochta Formation, where as V. osmolskae is from the Bayan Mandahu Formation. That third potential species was also from the former Djadochta Formation.

@Faelrin Thanks for the round-up, didn't realise there were so many Velociraptor releases in the BotM toy line.

I'm surprised that there's enough interest that justifies making so many versions of the same dinosaur.
