I'm happy to see this poll got more than 39 votes!  I haven't made the top 10 video yet as avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum needs some time to complete videos.  So votes will still affect what goes into the video!  There's one figure in first place now on its own!

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I still greatly admire the Safari lineup of ceratopsians and voted for four of them, but I find it somewhat remarkable that PNSO and HLG have equaled and even surpassed them. They are still superb, but they've met their match.

Quote from: SidB on May 01, 2023, 03:37:47 AMTo me the performance of the Battat Styracosaurus, now tied for second place is really remarkable. Granted this was a great figure, part of what made the Battat line legendary, but this is a 25ish year old sculpt!
The Battat Styracosaurus is simply beautiful. It's like it stepped straight out of a painting. Greg Wenzel's work on the Battat line is unparalleled and IMO no dino figure sculptor since has even come close (ok, maybe some of Forest Rogers' later work, and certain PNSO and Haolonggood figures have approached the same aesthetic, but not most). Wenzel's T. rex is still the best ever sculpted and it's not even close (not most accurate - best sculpt). The PNSO and Safari Styracosaurus figures are... ok? I guess? But I'm baffled by people who think they look anywhere near as good. The PNSO looks nice technically but it's missing some quality Battat has, hard to put my finger on it, and the incredibly drab colors don't help*. And I'm sorry but I find the Safari one quite derpy looking.

*Why is everyone except BotM afraid of color on ceratopsians of all things!? Their entire character is built around ostentatious display structures. Those frill spikes are not for combat chums, they're display structures, they should have bright colors, not just the frill. Any time I see a colorful ceratopsian figure with drab gray rhino horns I die a little inside.

Maybe you would benefit from being more open to different tastes existing.  I like the Battat Styracosaurus, but I find the PNSO Styracosaurus better.  It's not as wrinkly and has the feature scale surrounded by smaller scales which ceratopsid skin is known to have looked like.  It also looks more alive to me.  Safari's Styracosaurus is as good as Battat's in my opinion.

It's probably colourful horns, what you later argued for.  And on that note, I think "drab" horns are possible, maybe they were the species' preferred colouration for them.

The Battat Styracosaurus is probably my all time favorite ceratopsian figure, period. I have no real interest in PNSO's or Safari's Styracosaurus. I want Safari's because it's a Doug Watson sculpt but it's probably my least favorite of his ceratopsians, and the PNSO is really good but also kinda boring. Eager to see Haolonggood's though!

They're certainly possible, but if you're designing a figure why not use the opportunity to add more color? I suspect marketing wise people look at the Jurassic franchise and think people want relatively "gritty" dinosaurs with minimal color. They may be right, but IMO more colorful is better as long as it makes sense for the species/inferred habitat and behavior. For example I like the Haolonggood blue Dilophosaurus a lot, but I opted for the red one because Dilophosaurus lived in a semi-arid environment surrounded by aeolian deposits, and as a predator, if it had color, it would probably be restricted to the crest.
