Overall, I've been rather disappointed by PNSO's repaints. They strike me as boring.

I know it probably won't happen because I rarely read anything on here about Gamba, which means I'm probably in a small group of people that even like that figure.  BUT, I would not mind if they re-released it with a better paint job because I feel that's it's biggest weakness. One of my favorite PNSO paint schemes ever is the one on the Corythosaurus, if I could get a Gamba in that scheme I wouldn't even think twice about buying a duplicate which is usually a no no for me.

I would settle for a Gamba with the same exact colors just minus the stripes.  Gamba has almost no style in his stripes they're just plain bands from side to side.  Compared to the complexity of patterns put on paul or Connor, or Domingo.  He looks to just have had some stripes slapped on which is a shame considering the beautiful fading and coloration underneath that mess.  He would be so much better without the stripes kind of like chunkysaurus looks fine without any stripes.

I think you have a point there on Gamba. If you look at how PNSO's theropods are rated on the Dinotoycollector website, it actually has the highest average rating together with Wilson, the 2020 Spino and the Yutyrannus but it is probably the one that is least talked about. I think that has mainly to do with the GR Toys Carcharodontosaurus being released around the same time. And part of all the fuss around the GR Toys Carchar, was of course its coloration.

That really surprised me, considering the lack of buzz Gamba has generated it's kind of shocking that it's rated that high.  I love Gamba!  I think his texture, the veins, the folds, the wrinkles, there is nothing there that doesn't seem plausible and believable, nothing that doesn't belong.  I love the thickness of the neck which for whatever reason carcharodontosaurids are always portrayed with a thin neck that barely has enough muscle to support their enormous heads.  Even the Eofauna Giganotosaurus has this issue.  They almost all have it, the safari ltd Giga, the GR carchardontosaurus, the carnegie etc...  Gamba is the first one I see with a realistically muscled neck.  Why are carcharodontosaurids almost universally portrayed with such spindly necks?  Is there scientific evidence to support a lack of muscle there?  I love the PNSO gave Gamba a thick powerful enough neck to support his massive head.  The feet the stride and just the subtle details.  If it didn't have the goofy stripes it would be almost perfect in my book.  I love the lipless look but even if it had lips the overall sculpt is a slam dunk in my opinion.  Just look at the skin how incredibly to scale and real it looks!  It's like holding a small reptile in your hands, too bad about the lazy stripes!

By the way I would like to know if this new spinosaurus repaint from PNSO has less sustainability problems than its predecessor, if so, it would be very interesting to buy it even though the sculpture is identical, I thought it was a reissue of the repainted and limited version of said figure last year but unfortunately it is not. In any case, the base is great, it is a clean base with very clean paint details and I can say the same about the figure, I really like the colors that the PNSO brand gives its figures, which are extremely realistic and conservative from my honest point of view. of sight.

Why does it feel like all they did was take leftover stock and haphazardly slapped a couple of lines on top of the existing paint?

Like I said, I find PSNO repaints rather disappointing and dull on the whole. If you're going to do repaints, then do repaints. Go with brand new colour schemes so that people feel like they're getting their money's worth. CollectA and Safari and Schleich have PNSO whipped in this category.

With the stiff price of this figure, clearly there's little incentive to buy it, unless you don't have one already and are ignorant of the latest skeletal findings. I'm okay with my one that I acquired several years ago for a very good price, and have no need for the repaint. The repaint would have had to have been totally spectacular to even start to change my opinion.

Honestly, if I had ordered the figure After seeing the promo pictures and then opened the package to find this, I'd be really, REALLY dissapointed and pissed off  :P

I have no interest in the figure, but that photo doesn't even qualify as potato quality. Maybe rotten, half-decayed potato if we're being generous. I wouldn't use that to judge the quality of the paint :P

Good review, thanks for posting!

It's a bit disappointing to see the discrepancy between the promotional photos and the finished product, especially around the frill and spikes, but I think this is something we've come to expect from PNSO. Nevertheless, this is on my 'must have' list, along with their new Triceratops, once they're in stock at Everything Dinosaur. It's a very nice figure of one of the classic dinosaurs from my childhood books and absolutely deserves a place in my collection.

The Styracosaurus is very nice, the paint is definitely a step up from the Centrosaurus. I agree with the reviewer on the poses, though. They're getting a bit samey with the ceratopsians.

Sim

The Styracosaurus looks excellent, I look forward to getting it!  Like the reviewer I too would like a Chasmosaurus from PNSO, Anchiceratops as well.  The poses of PNSO's ceratopsids have been getting better in my opinion.  It's true they have been quite similar in the newer ceratopsids, but I found the poses of PNSO's Spinops, Pachyrhinosaurus, Machairoceratops and Sinoceratops all quite awkward.  I think it would be good if PNSO gave more unique and striking colourations to their ceratopsids to make them stand out more.  Their Machairoceratops and Styracosaurus both have colourations that are very similar to other PNSO figures and I think it would have been better if that hadn't been the case.

avatar_Sim @Sim I agree with you. A Chasmosaurus is a must now. I'm impressed with how many of the Dinosaur Park Formation species they've given attention too since late 2020, and that's one of the key species still without an accurate figure (aside from the BotM action figure).

A Chasmosaurus is long overdue, it would be nice to get one from PNSO or Safari.

Ouch, that Spinosaurus is very disappointing. I'd argue that its one PNSO's worst promotional images vastly differing from the in hand product. My opinion aside, is it confirmed PNSO are now taking a holiday break?

just curious, why did no one compare this fresh PNSO Styracosaurus to a CollectA one?
feel bad for them

The scale difference might be a factor.

Psittacoraptor

Or maybe they just don't own the Collecta? Not everyone buys every figure on the market. Quite a bizarre thing to "feel bad" for.

"them" is about CollectA company and figuratively the figure
