Blade-of-the-Moon

I just ordered one from the site..looks to be about 13.00 USD.   I did email and inquire if they knew who created it.  I have this feeling it just might be Ms. Rogers..and I like exclusive figures.. lol

It was sculpted specifically for the owner of the store--I doubt a Carnegie contractor also worked for a private store. And given the age, Ms. Rogers was not exactly producing dinos like that at the time!

Hmm..she does a lot of sculpting..could be a possibility. It seems to me it would be easy to find out who was sculpting figures for Carnegie and give them a call.  What was the age exactly ?  15 years ago ?   It does really look to me like a Safari type theropod ...maybe it was copied from one ?

It's easy to know who was sculpting for Carnegie back then--Forrest Rogers. As far as I understand, she was always the sculptor from the beginning. Also, given the age (about 15 years ago sounds close), that is not exactly where Wild Safari dino sculpts were at! ;)

I do know the owner worked with someone a lot to create a biped pose long before anyone else tried it, so it could even pre-date or coincide with the Battat attempts.

Oh yeah. She's been sculpting for the line since it's inception I believe.  I was looking at Carnegie figures from around 99' or so and still seems slightly possible.  Heck no..WS dinos..I don't know who was sculpting them then either but your right doesn't really match there.

Really ? Interesting. Hopefully the store will get back in touch with me and I'll share what I find out. So far other than the paypal invoice I haven't been contacted by them.

Takama

I do believe that there are a couple models that Rogers did not sculpt for that line.

The Plateosaurus

and the Pteranodon.

they were sculpted by Dan Larusso

I hadn't read that.

This guy doesn't look like Dan's work either though.

I heard back from the shop this is what they told me so far :

QuoteItem shipped Thanks for enquiry. Thanks for commenting on dinosaur. I will be contacting the company who was responsible for our prototype as we purchased that when we were "designing" this with people from The RTM

Blade-of-the-Moon

It's a pretty big figure...moreso than I thought.

Blade, at this time of year Canada Post uses dog teams to ship the mail (until the Cdn/US border) , where the weather miraculously turns from -40F frozen hell to 82F sunny heaven...  Those dogs have to dodge the polar bears and Sasquatches so the packages get beaten up a bit.  ;)

Canada Post can be pretty rough on packages.

lol  ;D

I've actually always had good luck with packages from the North..the South is another matter now.. ;)  The figure itself wasn't damaged though I'm torn between liking it and selling it right now..it's big, the body is detailed, but there is just something about the head..I don't know if it's the eyes or what..I'm going to hang onto it for now and see if it grows on me. lol

Iguanocolossus

I think CollectA's done some, but the sculpts aren't very good, as usual

Unfortunately, Tyrannosaurus has the family monopolized

My favourite Gorgos are Geene models (Galileo Hernandez)

And Greg Wenzel's Gorgo (already mentioned in the thread by Pilkington)

I plan to obtain them both this year :)

Blade-of-the-Moon

The Geene models Gorgo is a bit too thin I think, the hips show a bit much, it's missing muscle on the thighs and the base of the tail is pretty thin..unless it's supposed to be starving maybe ?  I think it's more he went off Greg Paul's designs which lean toward being well..too lean.   Greg Wenzel's could be a bit thicker around the base of tail as well but it's an older piece and actually more  rounded out overall .

There's no way to say this without sounding mean....but why I am NOT surprised you don't like it? I know you had something of a falling out with Galileo (that is none of my business) but seriously, why are you always trying to pick out "flaws" in his sculpts? It just seems incredibly petty to me, sorry ???
I've never seen you do it so consistantly with any other artist.

I don't care if it's on the skinny side....this is a wild, living animal and sometimes life is hard in the wild. You're going to get less than perfect specimens.

In my opinion, Galileo is an incredible sculptor, up there with David Krentz, Charlie McGrady and many others. I admit he has some personal issues but that doesn't detract from his talent.

Also, there are plenty of other artists and sculptors who use GSP as an inspiration and I don't see you complaining about them. There are many other toys and models that have an emaciated/lean look to them (like Papo's theropods) but I never seeing you bashing those either.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Why do you and others constantly think that I can't have an honest opinion without being biased ? Some of us don't like the Safari Concavenator, others do..and we say so.  I just say what I like and what I don't. Pick any artist and I can name things I like and things I don't. It's just that his pieces are posted here so frequently that they are commented on.

I do own his 1/15 Acro and aside from a loss of detail going toward the tail I like it, it has a pose I prefer over Shane's and so does David Silva's Acro. I also like his Jurassic Park pieces overall ( though there are some slight inaccuracies to the film versions ), his Reign of Fire dragon, ect.. so there are pieces he has done a great job with despite his customer service.

It's all our opinions. You obviously love his work a lot to place him on a pedestal with those other great artists. I just can't say the same.  He has talent I'll admit, even after he's hurt some other friends of mine.

You must be missing conversations. As we have commented on several other artist's work.  Many other artists use Grep Paul for a reference true, but they also check all the current evidence to flesh them out to the best of their ability. This is where the artist really comes into play, he/she has to take what they have learned and apply it with their style.  So far Geene Models just isn't completely up to my personal standards with many of their pieces.

As for Papo..really ?  I think we all by now know they are Jurassic Park pieces and the like. They make a host of errors as myself as well as others have pointed out, but they aren't saying they are scientifically accurate either. I like their pieces for what they are though.  The most accurate one is the Carnotaurus so far..probably because they copied such an accurate piece to begin with.

This is a forum where we discuss and review things, I hate to sound mean here, but the truth is if you don't want it discussed then don't post it .  I'm open and honest and I try to be mindful of others feelings. I quit posting on the last Geenemodels topic in the art thread but I won't be pushed from this one.  There is no need to call someone out because they have a differing opinion or post what they think. That is where  I stand.

Actually, I don't like the Carnegie Concavenator...although I don't know what that has to with anything.
And many other artists (Shane Foulkes, David Krentz etc) have posted their work here, but you never have a single negative thing to say about them. I've never seen you name things you "like and things you don't" with their work.
Maybe it's because they're able to defend themselves on this site, unlike Galileo?

I like his work a lot, but I don't "place him on a pedestal" more than I do any other artist. I happen to post his work because I like certain models that he has done, but I never posted his JP models (I hate JP stuff mostly) You don't know my personal feelings towards this man, so don't pretend like you do, thanks.

The Geene models Gorgo is actually an older sculpture. I don't know when it was originally created, but I believe it was earlier than 2010. All his newer models, (Carno, Saurolophus) have a more filled out look. The Geene model may have flaws now, but so does that Greg Wenzel model, and yet it gets a free pass...?

When Pilkington posted that Gorgosaurus earlier, you didn't reply with a post pointing out all of the flaws either. My point is that you seem so quick to bash on Galileo's models whenever anyone posts them, but you don't apply the same standards to other artists. It just seems unfair to me.

EDIT: I ask that the mods delete this argument. It's off topic and I should have known better than to instigate drama. I'm going to agree to disagree, thanks.

amargasaurus cazaui

So umm back to dinosaurs right? I was looking at my collection and I have to say I love the x-plus version Albertosaurus, although my paintwork leaves a lot to be desired. Thinking of sending him to visit Martin.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

Himmapaan

What an unsettling trend, these dinosaurs, eh?  :)) But back to them if we must.  ;D Reports are that new casts of the Greg Wenzel 1/35th Gorgosaurus/Albertosaurus ought to become available by the end of the month. I'd love to be able to secure a copy at once, though I'm still trying to put together funds for his Lambeosaurus first.

I'm fond of the X-Plus Albertosaurus too, though it's much too big for me to put on display.

Blade-of-the-Moon

The X-Plus in nice but a bit too thin in the base of the tail as well..I believe we have a review somewhere...ah here it is :  http://www.dinotoyblog.com/2008/02/26/albertasaurus-prehistoric-masterpiece-collection/

Mine also leans a bit too much forward like the pole isn't long enough..but it's not too bad.

I'm actually interested in the Greg Wenzel 1/10  version..it's big and aside from the hand orientation and tail being perhaps slightly less muscular than it should be it's an awesome piece.

Shane's buildup is great for those that haven't seen it :
