From what I could make out from Google's butchered translation, they're talking about how many Protocheirotherium they managed to sell thanks to Libraptor's promotion on this blog. Apparently someone ordered 40 Protocheirotherium...

Quote
The Wolfhager Ur-hand animal, strictly speaking, the created image after his alleged plastic model captured with breathtaking speed, a new fan base. Collector of dinosaur models have now become wolfhagense attention to Protochirotherium. As the Sauerland collector Stefan Schröder during a visit to Geopark border worlds in Korbach few days ago discovered the advertising medium, it was not long until the images via the Internet worldwide spread.

Stefan Schröder grabbed the mascot on his blog (dinotoyblog.com), which is visited by 1,500 people according to their own information and put it in front there. A little later there was the Regional Museum Wolfhager country's first reactions. "For several days, the sale of the Ur-hand animals gets a new dynamic. We receive inquiries from the USA, Australia, Canada and Brazil, "says museum director Beate Bickel. She is happy about the development, the name Wolf Hagens is borne into the world.
40 figures go to the U.S.

Figure collector Dean Walker from North Carolina ordered 40 copies of the same figures that were first has to make in a quantity of 2000 of the National Geopark border worlds, the county and the city of Kassel and mid-October last year brought to the market. Once the dinosaur fan has paid the bill, the Regional Museum sends the Wolfhager Ur-hand animal across the pond.

Norbert Panek, Project Manager of the Geopark border worlds, assumes that the Americans will sell advertising on. For a similar model of Korbacher dachshund - a mammal-like reptile - would be paid up to 100 euros. Just figures of prehistoric animals that are produced in small numbers, would find great success with collectors.
Objective: Conversion of Department

About the unexpected new customers look forward head of the museum Bickel and volunteer Wolfgang Schiffner. Finally, they come with every sold ruler lizard the targeted restructuring of the Department of Geology and Earth's one step closer. So far they have sold the Ur-hand animal about 300 times to customers.

It is offered not only in the regional museum, but also the mining museum Borken, in Geopark in Korbach, the National Park Centre cellar-Edersee and after the completed conversion, it will be marketed via the Naturparkzentrum hawk forest on Dörnberg.

And if all the Ur-hand animals are out of stock? No problem, says Bickel. Then there will be new type with an altered appearance, where the latest research results are taken into account.

Apologies to German members for the bad translation :-X

Dean Walker huh? I guess we might see a few on Dejankins soon. This is a really cool news story, congrats Stefan! Now I really can't wait to get mine!

WOW,  Not only did a member we know very well made the news, but the Blog itself did as well.      Now I want one of these figures because of it. I cant wait for Mr. Walker to get it in his shop.

We don't really know what he is going to do with them, that was just a guess on my part.

Dean Said on his blog that he is getting them for his customers (which I think is nice, since some people(like myself) cant make deals overseas)

The two new Bullyland Museum Line figures - Lambeosaurus lambei and Europasaurus holgeri are still expected to be here at DeJankins sometime before the end of February.  Many of you may know of the new Protochirotherium which Bullyland has produced for a museum in Germany.  We at DeJankins are doing what we can to get a supply of these figures to have in stock for you here.  Check back later for updates on this effort.

He's done it before--he brought in the Procynosuchus (after everyone was sure it would be unobtainable; I have 2 now!) and the Spinophorosaurus during both of their short runs. I've already made a deal with Stefan, but hopefully others will get the chance.

Good to know. I didn't want my comment earlier to be taken at face value because I really was just guessing, good to know that is what he intends to do with them. He always seems to have figures that are otherwise considered rare or hard to find.

Yes, Libraraptor is a fresh-faced baby of a man :)). There are photos of him on his dinotoyblog author page and in the 'photos of us' thread in the members only section.  :)

I just thought the new baby aged him rapidly since his last photos... ;D

As for info on the figure, there is an article here:

http://www.hna.de/lokales/wolfhagen/ur-handtier-wirbt-geopark-3170380.html

Use Google translate if you don't read German. It comes out a little weird, but understandable. It also lets you know how much it costs to get a run of 2000 limited figures from Bullyland! Hint--much less expensive than other companies (but still a pretty big investment at the outset).

Also--if the figure represents the ichnofossil Protochirotherium wolfhagense, is there any actual fossil evidence of the reptile they are portraying from the same location? I found a reference to the euparkerid Osmolskina from early Triassic Poland, but I am not sure if they line up exactly or not.

Interestingly, this mean that the Protochirotherium figure, if you want to be really pedantic, is actually the base! The reptile that stands on it is a hypothetical-but-unnamed animal!

It would be cool if more companies did limited runs of figures.

As long as we could still get our hands on them!

The big issue is the one-time cost. Obviously, this Geopark museum budgeted for it, as it is meant to be the mascot, but overall 12000 (in any denomination) is a lot of an institution's marketing, gift shop, or promotions budget. I remember looking into this sort of thing, and it is a lot for a one-time thing.

And most companies don't like them as a matter of course because the investment is the same no matter what, but a larger number means higher sales; limited runs of a toy don't usually carry a price tag that would justify the limits so the return is much lower (unlike maquettes or statues, that sort of thing, like Sideshow does--can you imagine Safari or CollectA trying to charge $100 for a PVC toy model, even if it was one of 2000?).

As far as I know this is exactly the case, which makes the figure very special :).
Has there ever been a figure released of which we only have footprints?

And yes, I am somehwat younger than Mr. Schiffner  :) See the "Pictures of us" - thread, I think one can find me there somewhere.

As an official author it is perfectly reasonable to refer to the dinotoyblog as your blog. You posted the Protochirotherium review so that is certainly yours! It is great publicity for us, anyway! Thanks, Libra!  8)

Somthe Protochirotherium isn't available anymore?
