Does anybody has a rough idea of or know the amount of Toyway Ornithocheirus models that were given away in the planet 10 giveaway?

stargatedalek

I believe it was somewhere between four and five hundred. But if I recall correctly the whereabouts are only known for two.

Wellnhoferia

That's a lot more than I thought, makes you wonder where the rest of them are, not to mention some may have been lost or destroyed

Other than the one that Simon sold, where is the other one?

I do believe I'm recalling this from the JP Toys forum and it was sold on eBay a few years ago.

out of interest does anyone know what happened to the models that werent sold in magazine?
The ones that werent put out on shelves? Or ones at the factory that werent used? I think they just get destroyed.... :P

I'd love to visit a warehouse like that.....

As for the number it is a lot more than I thought, my number was around 50.

Roselaar

That number is not so bad as I feared, but considering how many of them have popped up since 1999 (only 1, right?), it's still a pretty hopeless quest. ::)

Lusotitan

I don't think the original number matters, I don't think many more will ever be located, if any at all.

Don't take my memory at face value guys, I'm not that competent when it comes to things like this.

They never hit shelves--the sculpt was deemed too awkward for the standard packaging and Toyway didn't want to deviate from it (and look at them now, in the dust bin of history).

As for figures that have come up--Simon found his in a random lot on ebay (I believe the UK one) for very little money; he later sold it for a lot more, even with a hole drilled for a stand (I think).

There was one other--every few months/years, a member would pass by, saying they had one to sell, asking how much people would pay. The first time it seemed exciting, after that it was clearly trolling as no pictures or follow up ever happened.

So if we count all the individuals we have seen--there is one. There should be more, but most are probably lost in toy bins or garbage piles (by parents or 'grown ups' that didn't know).

Lusotitan

There's probably a few dozen still around, collecting dust somewhere, or perhaps handed down, and being played with by a baby as we speak, but these are so unlikely to ever surface that it's effectively the same as the ones thrown out, to us at least. Or at least that's how I see it.

:)  I use to think that the Playvision Amphibians would never show up, but suddenly a whole batch of them became available.

Because one tiny museum in the middle of nowehere had hoarded them all. Or weren't you referring to the ones I got there?

Invicta Hunter

Does anyone have the magazine issue that the giveaway was featured in?
