Appalachiosaurus

I did a few calculations of scale for anyone who cares:

Gigantspinosaurus ≈1:30
Einosaurus ≈1:35
Styracosaurus ≈1:20 (so much for "1:40 scale")

CMIPalaeo

It really seems that many of their Deluxe '1:40' figures are more like 1:20 - the Beishanlong last year certainly was. Not that it bothers me too much, though it'd be nice to see the proper label.
Once a man is tired of dinosaurs, he is tired of life; for there is in a dinosaur all that life can afford.

Concavenator

Gigantspinosaurus : The choice of species is indeed brilliant and it's a very striking model, with besitiful design, colors and pose but it doesn't look very detailed and such a model should be released for the Deluxe line,it would have been quite more striking and very worthy for this awesome dinosaur.

Einiosaurus : It looks elegant, but the colors are very lame to be honest. The Xenoceratops from years ago is much better in my opinion, though the choice of species is also interesting. It's curious that both Safari and CollectA have chosen this as their upcoming ceratopsian models.

Styracosaurus : It looks fantastic, has a very impressive feel to it but the coloration is rather bland.I would personally have added more quills and put them in a scruffy way and would have gone with a coloration similar to their Xenoceratops or Nasutoceratops.
Looking forward to next week reveals

Thank you! I always like to know these things.

...to be honest, the 2016 releases were stunning; those first 3 figures for the 2017 release are just so and so (mainly for the colors, but I need to see them in person)..  :-\
I'll buy them to complete my Collecta collection but I'm not so happy about these 3.  ???
I'm waiting too to see what's next...  :P
By now I'm more interested in the 2017 Safari wave..  ;)

Sinornithosaurus was probably capable of flight. No tests have ever been done on Sinornithosaurus specifically but Microraptor generates significant lift to sustain powered flight if it moved at high enough speeds. The "leg wings" which give it incredible agility potential combined with its habitat makes sense, most forest dwelling birds of prey are comparatively fast and agile. Additionally Microraptor's feather configuration offers virtually no potential for efficient gliding (which would necessitate slow speeds), the "leg wings" only generate lift or improve mobility at high speeds, and such a clearly elaborate and biologically expensive feature wouldn't be present unless it had genuine aerodynamic function.

Actually, the only paper which has ever, afaik, tested the flight ability of Sinornithosaurus determined that it probably could not fly because its wing area was too small. (Microraptor could probably fly and take off from the ground, so it did not need to climb trees or "glide" as previously suggested).

Star and Sauroid, thanks for correcting me. The venom gand thing I knew in the back of my mind, but I genuinely remembered someone telling me that CollectA was a British company.

That's not a coincidence - according to that link, Collecta was being sued by Safari for falsely trying to market themselves as a British company. They've apparently stopped since the lawsuit, but of course the old marketing will stick in people's minds.

I have not been buying collecta models, I don't even remember if I had any, but this year's Lythronax and Beishanlong caught my I and I've already bought the Lythronax. And the new Einiosaurus looks so beautiful! The Gigantspinosaurus might be a second one I will acquire but I want to see it more closely first. At the moment looks that it does not have that many details but it might be the photograph that makes it seem like that...

Agreed. Last year Safari was my 'meh' lineup, but this year it seems to be CollectA. Safari have more than mde up for it with their new releases, anyway! :D

True, this year is the year of Safari without a doubt.

My bad, I didn't know we even had any wing impressions from Sinornithosaurus itself! Thanks for the link.

Amazing start so far! I love all 3 figure so far- Giganspino looks beautiful, I really like the striking color design.
Oh those two lovely ceratopsians, love the Einio- it haw a calmer/mellow look to it than the safari one, they should make a great pair.
Sytraco- amazing new sculp of another classic. I'm so happy it wast another trike redo this timr :))

I am so excited for the rest of 2017 reveal, should be an amazing one!

I wonder what the mystery chasmosaurine will be? Regaliceratops is still in the running. So are Anchiceratops, Arrhinoceratops, Agujaceratops, Bravoceratops, Coahuilaceratops, and Pentaceratops. Or it could be an updated version of an old toy like the Styracosaurus.

In any case, CollectA's 2017 assortment is already more diverse than this year's! 8)

Imagine if they update another of their older ceratopsians as a deluxe, Chasmosaurus would be great! But the other deluxe ones are most likely theropods.

Halichoeres

After looking at these a bit more closely, I will probably only get the Gigantspinosaurus. I think all three are really nice figures, but I'm mostly a one-figure-per-genus type. The Styracosaurus isn't an improvement on existing models, and the Einiosaurus has the misfortune of being released right behind Safari's. The Safari version doesn't have the quills (which I view as provisionally discredited), and if I'm not mistaken the feet are more accurately rendered. I feel almost guilty passing on these two ceratopsians, given that I've criticized CollectA for making so many figures of ceratopsians whose only remains are parietals or jugals. These are well-made replicas of well-known animals, though, and I'm sure they'll sell well.

I would be interested in a Chasmosaurus, Arrhinoceratops or luxury anchiceratops.

I pentaceratops with Schleich and as I though I do not exactly averse to a pentaceratops of Collecta knowing the genius that make their figures.

Daspletodave

The Collecta Einiosaurus is easily the best ceratopsian they've done so far.

Anchiceratops or Arrhinoceratops please, Horseshoe Canyon needs more love!
