Hi,
This is a thread for dedicate to this exceptional figure.
Let's start posting some photos of your sauropelta.

Predasaurskillekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

A year or less before safari released the Saurapelta I asked them to make one in an online request. So it was really exiting when I found out they made it. Safari's best ankylosaur by far. Can't post any pictures of mine because it will only let me post pictures that have already been posted elsewhere on the internet. Not sure if there are ways to get pictures directly off your computer. Would be nice if someone more technologically gifted could give some advice.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

I was an early fan of this model, and had suggested when it was released it was a canidate for figure of the year, a prediction that was proven accurate. I own a stock version, a repaint done by Martin Garrat, and a version signed by Ken Carpenter, the paleo responsible for this discovery when it was formally published

Unless you're counting the Carnegie Collection then I think the Sauropelta is the ONLY ankylosaur by Safari. The Carnegie Collection Ankylosaurus is really good too, one of my favorite Carnegie models.

Gonna break the "rules" of this thread to help Neosodon out. Our astute admin created this link to show forum members how to go about posting photos on here. It's simple enough that even someone as technologically challenged as me was able to do it. You'll probably have to make a Photobucket account, but that's fairly simple... and free. Check out the link below - hope this helps!

Takama

Honestly i think this should be the Safari Thryphornan Fan club thread, because those dinosaurs are severely under represented in Safaris life span. and i find it a shame that Sauropelta remains the ONLY nodosaur they ever made, and i been praying that they release at least a Edmontonia each new year. This years croft of figures was amazing, but i would of called it perfect if they included a new Nodosaur or Ankylosaurs

I have the Sauropelta and i think its a great model.

Here are some photos just to prove im not a troll

I have the Sauropelta and love it! Seeing it gives me hope that in the future we will have more thyreophorans with that level of detail and quality.

Killekor

Thanks, takama, for post your sauropelta photos. I have said to post their sauropelta for this reason.

Seems to me that restricting comments on a thread to collectors who meet certain requirements goes against the purpose of online forums which is free discourse on a certain subject, in this case being dinosaur toys. And I'm fairly certain that such restrictions don't have the approval of upper management.

Well said, BlueKrono.  In the forum rules it says no spam and excessive pointless posts are not allowed.  (I think there has been a bit of those two things recently.)  I think this thread is less close to those two things if everyone can post in this thread.

The Sauropelta IS the only Wild Safari ankylosaur.  It looks like the Wild Safari line started in 1996 or 1997?  And the only ankylosaur made for it, the Sauropelta, was released in 2015!  Greg Wenzel made a mini Euoplocephalus for the Safari Ltd. Authentics figures, which was later re-used for a toob version: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=1550.0  Then there's the Carnegie Collection Euoplocephalus and Ankylosaurus.  And I think that's it for ankylosaurs from Safari.

Shonisaurus

Along with the nasutoceratops of Safari is the best that was done that year. The figure I have since I am a mere collector, not a mere understanding seems great is no wonder I won in the forum and in the forum prehistoric times shared (in this case with the deluxe spinosaurus and the standard) the prize to the Best figure made that year 2015.

Next to the nasutoceratops is the best thing that Safari did that year, eye! Without neglecting the rest of his figures that are just as brilliant, as were the yutyrannus and the archeopteryx. For me Safari is the best dinosaur toy company whose only rivalry is the Collecta company in terms of quality and scientific perfection.

But for me Doug Watson and it is not because it is but because it is the reality seems to me one of the best woodworkers and paleoartists of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures of today.

Thanks Blue. Sorry about the horrible picture quality. I need to get a real camera. Here is Saurapelta next to Collecta Gastonia a competitive rival for Saurapelta. Saurapelta has a more detail but Gastonia has a more colorful paint job.

I don't own this model myself, since I don't collect non-theropods, but for what it's worth, I think this model is Doug Watson's best Safari figure prior to the 2017 set. It's a gorgeous rendition of the animal, and the detail is absolutely exquisite. I love the spiky pinecone-y look. Kind of makes me think of the vehicles in Mad Max: Fury road as a dinosaur. Come to that, now I want to see Mad Max: Dinosaur Edition.

I would like to see more Nodosaurids. The critically acclaimed WS Sauropelta and Nasutoceratops are generally purchased together. The Tyco Edmontonia was one of my favorite Dino Riders. The Sauropelta will soon find a shelf friend with the Papo Polacanthus.

There are quite a few good nodosaurs out there right now. Collecta polacanthus, minmi and gastonia plus safari saurapelta have all come out fairly recently which is pretty good for an obscure family of dinosaur.

The CollectA Polacanthus is a very poor figure.  It doesn't look like a real dinosaur, and definitely not Polacanthus.  Bizarrely, it lacks Polacanthus's sacral shield and in its place there's an inorganic-looking circular arrangement of six large spikes.  The missing sacral shield and other inaccuracies of the CollectA Polacanthus are mentioned in its DTB review: http://dinotoyblog.com/2011/09/27/polacanthus-collecta/

The CollectA Polacanthus looks like it would be more useful as a hair brush than a dinosaur toy.
